Two-time Oscar winner Sean Penn has excelled in a number of fields, including acting, writing and directing. But it’s his career as a performer that has brought him the most acclaim. Let’s take a look back at 15 of his greatest films as an actor, ranked worst to best.
Penn entered the Oscar race for the first time with his performance as a death row inmate in Tim Robbins’s “Dead Man Walking” (1995), for which he competed in Best Actor. Subsequent lead nominations as a jazz guitarist in Woody Allen’s “Sweet and Lowdown” (1999) and a mentally handicapped father in “I Am Sam” (2001) quickly followed.
He hit the Oscar jackpot with Clint Eastwood’s “Mystic River” (2003), which cast him as a criminal grieving the murder of his daughter. Just five years later, he returned to the winner’s circle with his lead role in “Milk” (2008), Gus Van Sant’s...

Netflix has just released the trailer for the new raunchy high school comedy from the Chernin brothers — Dave Chernin and John Chernin — who are veterans of irreverent shows It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia and the tragically cut-short Fox sitcom The Mick. The Chernins reunite with The Mick‘s Kaitlin Olson and Thomas Barbusca in Incoming. The cast includes Mason Thames, Ramon Reed, Raphael Alejandro, Isabella Ferreira, Bardia Seiri, Loren Gray, Ali Gallo, Scott MacArthur, Thomas Barbusca, Kim Hawthorne, Victoria Moroles, Kayvan Shai, with Kaitlin Olson and Bobby Cannavale.
The short but sweet synopsis reads,
“Incoming is the story of one night in the life of a group of high school freshmen, the party they crash, and the chaos that ensues.”
Dave and John Chernin write and direct the film. The producers on the movie include Nicholas Stoller, Conor Welch, Todd Garner, Mark Korshak, Gary Barber, Peter Oillataguerre, Peter Principato and Ben Silverman.

This article contains spoilers for Homicide: Los Angeles episode 1.
Phil Spector was a music legend and Los Angeles celebrity royalty. He revolutionized rock and roll with his “Wall of Sound” production, and went on to finalize The Beatles’ Let It Be. This means nothing to investigators on Homicide: Los Angeles. On Feb. 3, 2003, the body of Lana Clarkson, a 40-year-old actress and VIP Hostess of The House of Blues, was found dead in a chair in Spector’s foyer.
Netflix’s five-episode true crime docuseries fully covers the prosecutorial pursuit in one installment. Here’s what was condensed in discovery.
Lana Clarkson Was a Successful Actress
In the June 2003 article “Inside the Undoing of Phil Spector,” Spector told Esquire Clarkson “kissed the gun” before shooting herself. At trial, Spector’s attorneys claimed a depressed Clarkson used the 38-caliber pistol in his foyer. In spite of the Spector PR team’s smear campaign,...

In an era where audiences are peddled an onslaught of remakes, sequels, and requels, few attempts at adapting existing works really manage to stand out. That one of these precious few was immediately trashed by critics who didn’t understand it and mismanaged by a company that was too scared to court controversy, is a shame. That show, though you may not expect it, was none other than Paramount’s own “Heathers”, which aired in 2018.
The series, created by Jason Micallef, had the same basics as Daniel Waters and Michael Lehmann’s film of the same name, fixating on a group of students at Westerberg High School in Sherwood, Ohio, and the deeply messy politics and behavior that comes with that. It retained the main crew of three “mean-girls” Heathers, along with the blasé “good person” Veronica and her faux-tortured murderer love interest Jd.

Editor’s note: this list was originally published in July 2021. It has since been updated to coincide with the release of “Longlegs.”
It’s amusing, in hindsight, to look back at Nicolas Cage’s first lead role. After a small role in “Fast Times at Ridgemont High,” the scion of the Coppola dynasty headlined 1983’s “Valley Girl,” playing the teen heartthrob that swoops Deborah Foreman’s LA blonde off her feet. Sure, Cage was playing a punk instead of a football player, but it was altogether a rather conventional stock character, the kind that populates many teen films that came before (“Grease”) and after (“The Breakfast Club”).
As soon as he moved on from teen rom-com parts (see also: “Peggy Sue Got Married”), Cage largely has taken roles that have been anything but ordinary. The intense star specializes in playing men on the edge of madness, who feel deeply and express those emotions loudly.

Oscar-winning actor Forest Whitaker has had a long and celebrated acting career though initially he aspired to be an opera singer. He enrolled at the University of Southern California to study opera but then changed his major to acting and graduated from the school with a Bfa in Drama.
While still enrolled in college, Whitaker began acting professionally. His first film role came in a movie called “Tag: The Assassination Game,” which starred Robert Carradine and Linda Hamilton. That same year he would get a small role in a movie about high school students that would become a classic. He joined a cast of unknown actors including Sean Penn, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Judge Reinhold and Phoebe Cates in “Fast Times at Ridgemont High.” The film was a bit of a sleeper hit in 1982 but became a classic through repeated showings on cable TV.

“Maybe three or four more lead roles,” says Nicolas Cage as he clarifies his eventual plan to quit movies: more on his words this way.
It was late last year when Nicolas Cage announced that he only had “three or four movies left in him”, signalling that his time making films (which stretches all the way back to a brief appearance in 1982’s Fast Times At Ridgemont High) was almost over.
As we reported here, Cage finally got around to watching Breaking Bad and was so taken with Bryan Cranston’s lead role in that series that his head was alive to the possibility of acting in other media beyond cinema.
“I feel I’ve pretty much said what I’ve had to say with cinema,” said Cage at the time. “And I’d like to leave on a high note and say, ‘Adios.’ I think I have to do...

Cameron Crowe is the Oscar-winning writer-director who firmly established himself as one of the most distinctive cinematic voices working today, creating comedic dramas about the inherent goodness of people. But how many of his titles remain classics? Let’s take a look back Crowe’s 10 greatest films, ranked worst to best.
Born in 1957 in Palm Springs, California, Crowe got his start as a teenage music journalist for “Rolling Stone,” touring with the Allman Brothers when he was just 16 years old. His love for rock bands landed him lucrative interviews with such hot groups as Lynyrd Skynyrd, Led Zeppelin and the Eagles.
His background in journalism led him to go undercover as a high school student to write a book about the experience of Southern California teenagers that would later become the film “Fast Times at Ridgemont High” (1982), which he also wrote the screenplay for. He made his directorial debut seven...

Sean Penn rarely grants interviews — he and the press haven’t always gotten along, to say the least — but last week, at his home in Malibu, the venerated actor and filmmaker sat down with The Hollywood Reporter’s Awards Chatter podcast for an in-depth conversation about his life, career and most recent project, Daddio, an indie, released last Friday, of which he is particularly proud.
Seated in a small, light-filled room that he recently re-designed himself, the walls of which are covered with photos of his late parents, his two children and himself alongside many of world figures he has encountered in his travels as an activist, Penn, sporting a shock of white hair, puffed on cigarettes, spoke softly and was far warmer than his reputation would suggest he’d be. At 63, thrice divorced and currently single, he seems to have found a measure of peace — at least when one...

Phoebe Cates nearly ended Zach Galligan's career before she helped launch it.
Galligan was the New York City-born son of a corporate lawyer and a psychologist when, in his late teens, he landed his first major Hollywood audition. The film was Paul Mazursky's contemporized adaptation of William Shakespeare's "The Tempest," and it promised to be a powerhouse actor's showcase what with John Cassavetes and Gena Rowlands already cast in the lead roles.
Mazursky and casting director Juliet Taylor were looking for a young actor to play the film's version of Ferdinand, the Prince of Naples who falls in love with Prospero's daughter Miranda. Given the production's pedigree, Galligan was competing against and reading with a who's who of up-and-coming performers, many of whom already had a movie or two under their belt.

Judge Reinhold is reflecting on one of the most iconic film sequences of the 1980s: his “Fast Times at Ridgemont High” masturbation scene.
The “Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F” actor told Vanity Fair that while the scene is “kind of creepy” out of context, it played to the dark humor of his character Brad, who is experiencing one of the worst days of his life. Reinhold admitted, though, that it was “awkward” to film the sequence with co-star Phoebe Cates.
Reinhold’s Brad imagines Cates’ character taking off her bikini top while getting out of the pool in a private moment. But then the door opens and she catches him mid-act. In fact, that single scene led an executive to deem the film “pornography” and threatened to shelve the Universal release.

Some movies and actors stick with you through the decades, leaving you with random moments of nostalgia that can occur at any time.
While the '80s have different levels of fame, perhaps the greatest gift it gave was The Brat Pack, a group of young, up-and-coming actors often seen on film together and occasionally off-screen.
What actors belong to the group varies by who you ask. Some people consider the members to be those listed by reporter David Blum in his now infamous 1985 article in the New York Magazine.
But 1980s Brat Pack fans have their own list of eight core members we grew up watching act together. It started with The Breakfast Club and then St. Elmo's Fire.
Now, they're on some of our favorite movies and series. But regardless of what they do, they're often still associated with belonging to the Brat Pack.

Oi there, listen up! Amazon Prime Video’s list of new releases for June 2024 includes another season of its biggest, bloodiest hit.
The Boys season 4 premieres its first three episodes on Thursday, June 13. Based on the trailers, The Boys is really leaning into the political side of its social satire with a presidential election underway and Homelander on trial for the small matter of killing a guy last season. The season will continue to air on Thursdays, culminating with the finale on July 18.
Amazon is really leaning into its sports offerings this month as well. Fans will get to watch the New York Yankees, the WNBA, and the Nwsl several times throughout June. That’s in addition to a couple of sports docs: Power of the Dream on June 18 and Federer: Twelve Final Days on June 20.
But if you’re looking for something even more explosive than Homelander and Roger Federer,...

When Hollywood dubbed actors like Andrew McCarthy, Molly Ringwald, Emilio Estevez, Judd Nelson, Demi Moore, and Rob Lowe as members of The Brat Pack, the label triggered an unwanted chain reaction throughout the group. The name came with a specific air, and several Brat Pack members saw the brand as a curse. In Andrew McCarthy’s Brats trailer, the teen comedy icon turned filmmaker explores the ramifications of becoming the poster child for Hollywood’s disaffected youth during the 1980s.
In partnership with Neon and Network Entertainment, ABC News Studios will bring Brats to Hulu in the United States on June 13. A Disney+ premiere will occur in select territories later this summer, following its world premiere at the 2024 Tribeca Festival.

Eric Newman was the showrunner for the Netflix series “Narcos” in 2015 when Sofia Vergara – then in the middle of her run starring as Gloria Delgado-Pritchett on the multiple Emmy-winning comedy “Modern Family” – invited him to her home to pitch him on the idea of her fronting a project where she portrayed the Colombian drug “queenpin” Griselda Blanco. “Obviously I knew her work and was a fan of hers,” Newman recalls. “I also knew she (Vergara) was Colombian, which is an important distinction. And I knew a lot about Griselda Blanco and was fascinated with her as a character. I felt that if Sofia was willing to take the risk…just the thought that she was interested in doing this was appealing. So I went into the meeting very excited and hopeful that I would be met with a level of passion and conviction that would help make my decision very easy – and I was.

In the on-demand era, watching a movie, even a short one, can take hours. In the theater or on TV, the movie cannot be paused, so the most dedicated viewers used to have to go back to the theater to see the same movie over and over again or record the TV broadcast. Now it is enough to buy a movie or watch it online on streaming services.

Mickey Gilbert, the fearless stunt performer who jumped off a cliff for Robert Redford in Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid and doubled for Gene Wilder in films including Blazing Saddles, Silver Streak and The Frisco Kid, has died. He was 87.
Gilbert died Monday of natural causes at his home in Camarillo, California, his oldest son, Tim Gilbert, also a stunt performer, told The Hollywood Reporter.
Early in his career, Gilbert was a horse wrangler in William Wyler’s Ben-Hur (1959) and a bank robber in Sam Peckinpah’s The Wild Bunch (1969). Years later, he took the lumps for Lee Majors’ Colt Seavers on the 1981-86 ABC action show The Fall Guy.
Though they weren’t friends at the time, Gilbert and Redford were in the same class at Van Nuys High School, graduating in 1954. They got together on George Roy Hill’s Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (1969) when Redford...

A New Year means lots of removals from Netflix and January 1st is looking busy, with over 100 movies set to leave the service already. Below, we’ll be keeping track of all the Netflix departures for the first month of 2024.
First, a few housekeeping notes as to how Netflix removals work before we dive in. Due to licensing agreements, shows and movies added to Netflix aren’t added forever. Instead, they’re essentially rented for a fixed period. All the shows below have their current window on Netflix ending and will likely be bound for a rival streaming service.
We list titles slightly differently from other outlets, with our listings being the actual day of removal. If you want to watch any titles scheduled to expire on January 1st, for example, you’ll need to watch by the end of December 31st.

Nicolas Cage comes from one of film’s most esteemed families. His uncle is Francis Ford Coppola (“The Godfather”) and his aunt is actress Talia Shire. Not wanting to appear like his career was the productive of nepotism, when he started acting he took the name Cage from one of his favorite comic book characters, Marvel’s Luke Cage.
Cage’s film career started off quite auspiciously with a small role in the popular comedy “Fast Times at Ridgemont High” when he was just 18 years old. He followed that up with a lead role in the cult classic “Valley Girl.” Both films interestingly dealt with the life of teenagers in the Los Angeles suburbs of the San Fernando Valley.
For his third film Cage would finally agree to work with his uncle when he appeared in Coppola’s “Rumble Fish,” followed the following year by Coppola’s “The Cotton Club.

Fast Times at Ridgemont High is one of the most influential movies of the eighties. It was the first classic teen comedy of the decade, but unlike many other teen-focused flicks, it aspired to be a realistic depiction of what teens go through. In fact, the movie was based on a book by a young Cameron Crowe (who adapted the screenplay) who went undercover as a teen and wrote about his experiences. The movie tackled teen sex, pregnancy, abortion and drugs without any of the doom and gloom the topic would have been presented with had it been made by just about anyone else at the time.
Directed by Amy Heckerling, the movie featured an incredible cast of future stars, including Sean Penn as the stoner icon Spicoli, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Judge Reinhold, Phoebe Cates (whose nude scene became one of the most rewound moments of the VHS era), Forest Whitaker,...

Sex Education, Spy Kids: Armageddon and The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar are among the high-profile new projects debuting on Netflix in September.
Sex Education‘s fourth and final season will start streaming on Sept. 21, with action shifting from the closed Moordale Secondary to the progressive Cavendish College and Emma Mackey’s Maeve in America. Creator Laurie Nunn said that as the writers were working on season four “it became clear that this was the right time to graduate.” The final season sees the return of stars Asa Butterfield, Ncuti Gatwa, Aimee Lou Wood, Dua Saleh, Mimi Keene, Kedar Williams-Stirling and Chinenye Ezeudu. Gillian Anderson will also return as Otis’ (Butterfield) sex therapist mom. But the new settings bring fresh faces in Anthony Lexa, Felix Mufti and Alexandra James, who make up the popular group, The Coven; a rival sex therapist for Otis, named O (Thaddea Graham); and Schitt’s Creek star Dan Levy,...

September and school have begun, so settle in for some new additions to Netflix this month that will provide comfort amid summertime blues. Those in the mood for love might enjoy the adaptation of Jennifer E. Smith’s book, “Love at First Sight” starring Ben Hardy and Haley Lu Richardson, or the arrival of Sony’s “Love Again” starring Priyanka Chopra and Sam Heughan. Those not aiming for straight rom-com, but a mix of humor and heart will look forward to the fourth and final season of “Sex Education” and the shenanigans of Otis Milburn (Asa Butterfield), Eric Effiong (Ncuti Gatwa), Maeve Wiley (Emma Mackey) and more.

It’s been a long, sexless decade or two for American cinema, but this summer, we’re finally getting films about laughs and lust again.
The 2023 Summer film season has been bookended by two comedies about women desperate for sex, albeit for very different reasons. “No Hard Feelings,” starring Jennifer Lawrence as a woman who reluctantly accepts a Craigslist job to “date” the son of a rich couple in exchange for a car, arrived in June. Closing out August comes the theatrical release of South by Southwest premiere “Bottoms,” directed by “Shiva Baby” filmmaker Emma Seligman and starring Rachel Sennott and Ayo Edebiri as two horny, unpopular lesbian teenagers who start a “female self-defense program” (read: fight club) in a bid to impress their cheerleader crushes.
Both films have been well-received by critics and audiences alike; “No Hard Feelings” made a healthy amount of money with $86.7 million at the global box office,...

Full disclosure: This essay is being written by an avowed Bender (Aka Judd Nelson’s character in “The Breakfast Club”) apologist. And yes, nearly four decades since the release of the classic John Hughes teen dramedy, I’m well-aware of how problematic that is by our contemporary standards. While (sigh) the fingerless gloves, shredded denim vest, and studs made Bender the epitome of swoon-worthy bad boy chic, it took close to a decade for my still-forming teenage brain to realize that no, that is not, in fact, the ideal form of sensitive masculinity….because Bender is kind of a creep.
But this just goes to show how deeply the ’80s-era sexist, problematic dreamboat bad boy character has permeated culture. It’s the patriarchy of romance, by way of Reagan era sensibilities still relevant fifty years later. Broken boys will be broken boys in need of healing; but why has it...

With its list of new releases for July 2023, Prime Video is going to help you stay safe from the oppressive July sun.
Highlighting the Amazon Originals on the TV side this month are two heavy hitters. The first is The Horror of Dolores Roach on July 7. Based on a podcast of the same name, this series could best be described as a modern day Sweeney Todd? Why, you ask? Well you know why. Think about it. Then season 2 of Neil Gaiman adaptation Good Omens premieres on July 28. This season will follow angel Aziraphale (Michael Sheen) and demon Crowley (David Tenant) as they seek to keep the Archangel Gabriel (Jon Hamm) away from both heaven and hell.
There aren’t any Amazon Original movies of note this month and that’s alright as the influx of library titles is more than enough. July 1 sees the arrival of The 40-Year-Old Virgin, No Country for Old Men,...

The second season of original series “Almost Paradise” is set to premiere on Freevee on July 21. When hypertension forces DEA agent Alex Walker (played by Christian Kane) into early retirement, he moves to the Philippines in hopes of a quieter life. But unfortunately for him, he can’t avoid danger. Soon, the local police ask him to help solve a series of serious crimes.

Also coming to Amazon’s free streaming service in July is the incredibly meta action series “Ze Network.” In the show, David Hasselhoff plays himself as he takes a gig at an English-language theater in Germany — and we all know that Germans love David Hasselhoff. However, once there, he is recruited into an elite society of super-spies, who must work together to prevent a dangerous plot from striking the nation.

With No Hard Feelings hitting theaters, it seems that studios might be trying to bring back hard R raunchy comedies. The gamble of taking a well-known actor and throwing them into a raunchy, sex-filled comedy may end up working out. Could this bring about a new wave of R-rated comedies? We can only hope. So what are some of the best sex comedies? Let’s look back at this hilarious genre and find out which ones make the cut.
Zack And Miri Make A Porno (2008)
Kevin Smith is not a stranger to the raunchy realm of comedies, but this film is maybe his truest sex comedy out of all of his filmography. Life-long platonic friends Zack and Miri are in trouble as they are both dead broke and have mounting bills as their rent is coming due. To make a large amount of cash very quickly, they...

“‘Fast Times at Ridgemont High’ and ‘Happy [Gilmore]’ have probably seeped their way into Pete Davidson’s head, and ‘Bupkis’ is what’s come out,” is how the show’s director, Jason Orley recently described the new Peacock comedy series to Variety.
Written, produced and starring Davidson, “Bupkis” immerses audiences into a “surrealist” adaptation of Davidson’s life with the help of a star-studded call sheet, including Joe Pesci, Brad Garrett, John Mulaney, Sebastian Stan, Ray Romano and more.
“Bupkis” opens with a caricature of the celebrity as he takes a moment to “unwind” in the basement of his family home. Davidson throws on a pair of VR goggles, presses play on an immersive pornographic video and in a moment of pleasure — and soon-to-be distress — his mother, played by Edie Falco, walks in as he reaches his climax.

Nicolas Cage has named his five favourite films starring himself.
The actor appeared on Wednesday night’s episode (14 April) of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert to discuss his new horror-comedy, Renfield.
Midway through the programme, host Stephen Colbert asked: “What are Nic Cage’s top five Nic Cage films?”
Since making his film acting debut at age 17 in Fast Times at Ridgemont High (1989), the actor, now 59, has gone on to star in several movies, including Leaving Las Vegas (1995) and National Treasure (2004).
Despite his long career, however, a few of Cage’s favourite movies are relatively recent releases.
“I’m going to start with Pig, that’s my favourite movie I’ve ever made,” he told Cobert.
“I love Mandy, the movie Panos Cosmatos directed. I love Bringing Out the Dead, which Martin Scorsese directed, and I loved Bad Lieutenant, which Werner Herzog directed.”

“Hurt but not defeated.” That’s the direction filmmaker Martha Coolidge gave to her star Nicolas Cage as they shot the pivotal breakup scene in the ’80s classic “Valley Girl.” In a filmed conversation from 2003 between the two for the film’s twentieth anniversary, Cage told Coolidge that he has “used that direction ever since” in all of his work.
As the iconic ’80s spin on “Romeo and Juliet” celebrates its 40th anniversary on April 29, and Cage returns to the big screen with his latest film “Renfield” — in which he plays the centuries old Prince of Darkness himself, Count Dracula, recovering from the latest attempt on his life with his familiar Renfield (Nicholas Hoult) in New Orleans — it’s clear that the impact of her words still resonate in the performances of the idiosyncratic actor.
He was just 17 years old when he auditioned for the role that would change his life.

Simien is best known for writing and directing the 2014 film “Dear White People” and creating the Netflix series of the same name. He also directed and wrote 2020’s “Bad Hair,” and directed “Haunted Mansion,” the 2023 horror film based on the Disney theme park ride, which debuts later this year.
Whitaker’s prominent credits as an actor include “Fast Times at Ridgemont High,” “Good Morning, Vietnam,” “The Butler,” “Black Panther” and more. In TV, he has narrated the 2002-2003 revival of “The Twilight Zone,” led the “Criminal Minds” spinoff “Suspect Behavior” and appeared in 11 episodes of “Empire.

As befitting its status as one of the world’s biggest companies, every now and then Amazon likes to take a big swing with its Prime Video originals. With its list of new releases for April 2023, the streamer is taking one of its biggest swings yet.
Though it’s not quite as vast or expensive as fellow Prime Video series The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, Citadel (premiering April 28) is a massive, massive undertaking. Starring Richard Madden and Priyanka Chopra Jonas, this spy series is described as “an expansive and groundbreaking global event comprising a mothership series and several local language satellite series.” This means that the Russo Brothers-produced project will eventually feature several spinoffs in multiple countries and languages around the world. Neat-o!

Prime Video is hoping to launch its own extended franchise universe in April with the premiere of international spy series “Citadel” from the minds of the Russo Brothers. The show stars Richard Madden, Priyanka Chopra, and Stanley Tucci, and is intended to be the first block of an interconnected story with different spinoffs in countries and regions around the world. The first version will begin streaming on April 28. In the show, the world is in the grips of Manticore, a criminal organization, and several former spies are recruited to restore order despite having their memories erased.

(Welcome to Best Actor Ever, an ongoing series where we explore the careers and performances of the greatest performers to ever grace the screen.)
There is not an actor in the history of moving pictures who has been more egregiously taken for granted by her industry than Jennifer Jason Leigh.
Critics have always had her back. The New York Times' Janet Maslin got it from the jump when she singled Leigh out as "the only thing worth seeing" in her film debut "Eyes of a Stranger." The better-than-average 1981 slasher film set the tone for Leigh's career in that she plays a victim. Her character is a blind-deaf mute whose condition was brought on by being kidnapped and raped at an early age. The 19-year-old Leigh projects sweetness and innocence, but this young woman is all serrated edges. Because she isn't just a victim. She's a survivor.

Oscar-winning filmmaker Cameron Crowe has had a fascinating career trajectory and is responsible for some of the most beloved coming-of-age stories ever put to screen. His feature screenwriting debut came with the groundbreaking teen film "Fast Times at Ridgemont High," shortly followed by the massively influential "Say Anything..." and "Singles." Crowe has a knack for capturing the human condition with so much reverence for people doing their best to make it through life and making audiences feel validated in ways they never thought possible.
For many folks, Crowe had finally "made it" after the success of "Jerry Maguire," the endlessly quotable romantic sports dramedy now better known for its VHS copies dominating every thrift store in America. However, real ones know that Crowe's masterpiece would come many years later with "We Bought A Zoo." Just kidding, it's obviously "Almost Famous," a near-perfect film (just edit out the non-consensual post-od kiss!

Very few personalities in Hollywood are as controversial as Sean Penn. One of the most gifted actors of his generation, Penn’s also been a lightning rod for controversy, with his often antagonistic relationship with the press and sometimes misguided moves, such as his now infamous interview with drug baron El Chapo. Yet, he’s also a noted humanitarian, participating in rescue efforts in the wake of Hurricane Katrina and being a tireless advocate for Haiti following the 2010 Earthquake. He’s also been an outspoken supporter of Ukrainian president Zelensky.
In this episode of Wtf Happened to this Celebrity, we look at the scope of Sean Penn’s career. We chart his earlier days as perhaps the most talented young actor to emerge in the early eighties, stealing scenes in Taps and later becoming a star thanks to turns in movies like Fast Times at Ridgemont High, At Close Range,...
