“This film contains extremely dangerous and illegal activities,” reads the Jackass-esque title card at the beginning of Skywalkers: A Love Story. “Do not attempt to imitate.” No kidding. After watching a film like this, you might think twice about going higher than the second story of a building. Maybe a nice comfortable mezzanine, at a push. It’s a feature-length documentary account of “rooftopping”, a singularly social media-driven craze (that seems also singularly Russian) in which young people illicitly ascend rooftops, scaffolding, cranes and other extremely tall structures, in order to get the most epic of selfies, the grandest of panoramas, the most Instagram-friendly drone videos. If you caught the 2022 palm-sweating B-movie thriller Fall — well, this is basically the nonfiction version.

Constructing a soundtrack album is a gentle -- and perhaps lost -- art. This author is old enough to remember the 1990s heyday of movie soundtracks, when film producers would regularly license charting pop hits, obscure deep cuts, upcoming rappers, and underappreciated indie bands to construct carefully curated and meticulously produced albums that lived happily in your friends' cars all summer. There was a time when an unsuccessful film could recoup a lot of its theatrical losses with overwhelming soundtrack record sales. See: "Dead Man on Campus."
As the music industry collapsed in the early 2000s, however, soundtrack records fell out of favor. Movie songs became mere playlists, neither arranged on a CD in any cogent order nor lending themselves toward a general thematic thrust. We '90s teens can now whine (as is our wont) that soundtrack albums are, in the '20s, rarely more than "pile of neat songs.

Most people associate Kelly Bishop with her more recent work in Gilmore Girls and Halston. She had an illustrious career long before that, including several important stage and movie credits. Her most famous movie role came in 1987 when she appeared as Marjorie Houseman in Dirty Dancing. While Bishop was signed on to the movie when it began filming, she was not set to play Marjorie Houseman.
Kelly Bishop was not originally cast as Marjorie Houseman in ‘Dirty Dancing’
Long before she was Emily Gilmore, Kelly Bishop was known for her part in Dirty Dancing. She played the mother of Frances “Baby” Houseman in the cult classic. Kelly Bishop happened into the role of Marjorie Houseman somewhat by accident. While she was hired to appear in Dirty Dancing, she was originally set to play Vivian Pressman, a resort guest who tries to seduce Johnny. While the part was a memorable one,...

Above: US teaser poster by Dawn Baillie for The Silence of the Lambs. If you have any interest in the nuts and bolts of American movie poster design, as well as excellence in that field, there is an exhibition currently running at Poster House in New York City that is one of the most insightful and well-thought-out introductions to the craft of movie-poster design—as well as to how the technology of graphic design has changed over the past 40 years—that I have ever seen. The exhibition is devoted to the work of Dawn Baillie, one of the unsung heroes of American movie poster design. I have been writing about movie posters for fifteen years and have been looking at them and thinking about them for much longer, and I have to admit that until this exhibit I had never heard the name Dawn Baillie, despite the fact that she is responsible for,...

An Eisenbergs Seite spielt „Succession“-Star Kieran Culkin. Sie spielen zwei ungleiche Cousins, die gemeinsam nach Polen reisen, um mehr über das Leben ihrer kürzlich verstorbenen Großmutter zu erfahren. Jesse Eisenberg goes back behind the camera for drama A Real Pain. Here’s the trailer for the upcoming movie.
Jessie Eisenberg found huge success as an actor in the likes of Adventureland, The Social Network and the Zombieland films. He made his directorial debut in 2022 with comedy drama When You Finish Saving the World, for which he also wrote the script.
He wasted no time in getting back behind the camera for drama A Real Pain. The synopsis for which reads as follows:
From writer / director Jesse Eisenberg based on his own family history, mismatched cousins David (Jesse Eisenberg) & Benji (Kieran Culkin) reunite for a tour through Poland to honor their beloved grandmother. The adventure takes a turn when the pair’s old tensions resurface against the backdrop of their family history. A poignant, funny exploration of the unexpected permutations of intergenerational trauma.

Who would make for the more uncomfortable travel partner, Roman Roy or Mark Zuckerberg?
That’s a question you’ll ponder while watching the new trailer for “A Real Pain,” a road trip dramedy starring Emmy-winning “Succession” star Kieran Culkin and Oscar-nominated “The Social Network” star Jesse Eisenberg. Eisenberg is also the writer and director.
Eisenberg and Culkin play David and Benji, respectively. They’re cousins who are very different from each other and take a trip across Poland to honor their beloved late grandmother, who survived the Holocaust and escaped the country. Long-standing tensions between them resurface as they get deeper into their family history.
In addition to Eisenberg and Culkin, the cast includes Will Sharpe (“The White Lotus”), Jennifer Grey (“Dirty Dancing”), Kurt Egyiawan (“House of the Dragon”), Liza Sadovy (“A Small Light”), Daniel Oreskes (“Only Murders in the Building”), and Ellora Torchia (“Midsommar”). Kieran Culkin is shedding his Roman Roy persona and swapping it for another annoying family member role: This time, as Jesse Eisenberg’s cousin in semi-autobiographical film “A Real Pain.”
Eisenberg writes, directs, and stars in the feature which debuted at Sundance 2024. The “Social Network” star plays David, who travels with his mismatched cousin Benji (Culkin) to Poland to honor their beloved late grandmother. The adventure takes a turn when the odd-couple’s old tensions resurface against the backdrop of their family history.
Will Sharpe, “Dirty Dancing” icon Jennifer Grey, Kurt Egyiawan, Liza Sadovy, and Daniel Oreskes also star.
Two-time Oscar winner Emma Stone produces the film, alongside Dave McCary, Ali Herting, Jennifer Semler, and Ewa Puszczyńska.

Intro: At the time of writing this episode of Arnie Revisited, it’s just been confirmed that Hollywood is once again scouring popular IP with the upcoming reboot of The Running Man from Edgar Wright, with rising star Glen Powell attached to the project. The Top Gun: Maverick actor is certainly hot property right now, having just cosied up to Sydney Sweeney in Anyone But You. However, it was another actor, whose star was crashing through the sky in the 80s, who first took on the adaptation of Stephen King’s short story, which was written under his Richard Bachman pen name.
Arnie had just battled camouflaged alien hunters in Predator, released in June 1987, and the same year saw him take on another action sci-fi project, albeit this time with less aliens but similarly memorable action and one-liners. It was quite a departure from the original short story, but the...

The copyright battle over Road House and this year’s remake starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Conor McGregor has turned into a full-on bare-knuckle legal brawl.
If R. Lance Hill, who penned the original 1986 script under the moniker David Lee Henry, thought in his February filing that he was going to bop Amazon Studios, MGM Studios and United Artists over “blatant copyright infringement” – he just got smacked back, hard.
“Plaintiff’s Complaint ignores the well-established rule of copyright law that the author of a work made for hire is not the individual who created the work,” declares the counterclaim filing by Amazon Studios, MGM and United Artists in federal court on May 3 (read it here).

After playing the role of James Dalton in the cult-classic film Road House, Patrick Swayze moved on to other career opportunities. Fresh off the action film and moving away from the image Dirty Dancing painted of him, the actor starred in a movie that would change his image in the film industry in the best of ways. The actor joined the cast of Point Break, the film that put Keanu Reeves on the map.

While there is no doubt that the movie turned into a classic, it seems that the filming was not as smooth as many would think. During a behind-the-scenes feature of the film, Swayze talked about what filming the action sequences was like for him. As the actor revealed, there were multiple occasions during filming where he almost died. All because of his dedication to his craft.

John Leguizamo, Patrick Swayze, and Wesley Snipes portrayed three drag queens in the film To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everthing! Julie Newmar. There are a lot cult classics from the 1980s, but Road House stands somewhere near the top. Sure, many of its fans wouldn’t label it as such, since they lovingly, legitimately and unironically adore it. But there’s no use in arguing it belongs in one camp over another or that it is unapologetically everything it sets out to be. But it – and its cult following – couldn’t have happened without a few broken ribs, a don’t-take-no producer and some pervy late-night phone calls to a star’s spouse. Yes, it involves Bill Murray… So, pour some suds and rip some throats because we’re gonna find out: Wtf Happened to this Movie?!

A Real Pain – written and directed by Jesse Eisenberg – proved to be one of the biggest hits of the Sundance Film Festival and has now been slated for release.
Coming out of the Sundance Film Festival this year, perhaps the most buzz was focused on Jesse Eisenberg's directorial folllow-up to 2022’s When You Finish Saving The World.
His second directorial outing is called A Real Pain and follows cousins who travel to their grandmother’s native Poland to partake in a Holocaust tour. Searchlight Pictures announced on Tuesday that its dramedy A Real Pain, marking the sophomore feature of actor-turned-filmmaker Jesse Eisenberg, will hit theaters in the thick of awards season, on October 18.
Eisenberg stars opposite Succession Emmy winner Kieran Culkin in the buzz title, which Searchlight snapped up for $10 million in the first major deal out of this year’s Sundance Film Festival, as we were first to report. In the film, also scripted by Eisenberg, the pair play David and Benji, cousins who reunite for a tour of Poland to honor their grandmother, but see older tensions resurface against the backdrop of their family’s history.
Hailing from Topic and Fruit Tree, the film also stars Jennifer Grey (Dirty Dancing), Will Sharpe (The White Lotus), Kurt Egyiawan (Beasts of No Nation), Liza Sadovy (A Small Light) and Daniel Oreskes (Only Murders in the Building). Producers on the project included Ali Herting,...

Netflix’s true crime series Homicide: New York’s first installment, “Carnegie Deli Massacre,” opens with the brutal murders of Jennifer Stahl, Charles “Trey” Helliwell, and Stephen King. The episode features NYPD Lieutenant Roger Parrino; Barbara Butcher, the second woman ever hired for the role of Death Investigator in Manhattan; and retired NYPD Det. Irma Rivera. The case plagues these veteran law enforcement professionals enough to revisit the evidence. The deaths seem to have weighed heavily on producer Dick Wolf too. “Tragedy on Rye,” a season 14 episode of his signature show Law & Order, is based on the tragic incident.
The crime also haunted New York. The murders happened on May 10, 2001, during a period when city crime had been on a downswing, and media at the time dredged up fears Times Square would go back to its not-so-distant wild and dangerous earlier character. Like the detectives in the show, it...

Patrick Swayze was one of a kind. He’s the only actor I can think of who was as comfortable cutting a rug on the dance floor as demolishing a room full of bad guys with his fists of fury. When he passed away in 2009, we lost an icon who was never really recognized as the legend he is in his time. In the years since many Patrick Swayze movies have become cult favourites, and with a Road House remake due out on Thursday, we decided now would be a good time to pick the five best Patrick Swayze movies.
Red Dawn:
John Millius’s cold war “what if” thriller goes down in the history books as the first-ever PG-13 movie. It was also Patrick Swayze’s first major leading role, with him best known up to this point for a supporting role in Francis Ford Coppola’s The Outsiders.

When film fans talk about great on-screen chemistry, one of the first pairings that comes to mind for me is Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey in the now-classic, "Dirty Dancing." As Johnny Castle and Frances "Baby" Houseman, the duo are practically radiating with charisma and it's impossible not to fall in love with them throughout the film. It's also a huge testament to their acting abilities, as the pair famously butted heads throughout the production of "Red Dawn," a film they appeared in together three years prior.
"Patrick was playing pranks on me and everybody," Grey said during an episode of "The View" in 2022. "[He was] late and the boss of everybody and it was just, like, macho and I just couldn't take it. I was just like, 'Please, this guy, that's enough with him.'" Grey was the first of the duo cast, and for a time it looked like Billy Zane,...

Doug Liman got a standing ovation at the SXSW premiere of his remake of “Road House” — an event that he originally promised he’d boycott.

Gyllenhaal first made Liman’s attendance known while introducing the film, saying, “I want to thank our incredible director. He’s in the audience tonight. He’s been a friend for over 15 years, I’ve wanted to work with him for that time, we’re so lucky. He’s so brilliant and this movie is too.”

The trailer features a montage of Kelly and Mark dressing up as characters from Barbie, A Few Good Men, and Dirty Dancing, among others.
