Fans never expected Snipes to return to his role after how messy things turned out after Blade: Trinity. During his appearance at San Diego Comic-Con, Snipes explained how his role in the film happened and, most importantly, his biggest challenge in reprising the role.

Prude follows Hygiene, the punk band’s acclaimed 2022 album. The record was produced by longtime Drug Church collaborator Jon Markson and features a deeper display of their aggressive sound. “I’m hesitant to say this album is more emotional, but I think there’s definitely some emotional songs on the record,” vocalist Patrick Kindlon said in a press release. “I wanted to avoid some of the topics I’ve been hammering for years, but I almost can’t, I’m limited to what interests me, or upsets me, or grabs my attention.”

We’ve all wondered what it’d be like — to be an animal of some sort, just living life by instinct, your purpose woven into your DNA. That’s the conceit behind Drug Church’s new single, “Demolition Man” off the punk band’s fifth studio album Prude.
“Demolition Man” crashes in, quite fittingly, on a wave of deliciously dumb riffs that belie the painfully insightful opening lyrics, which see frontman Patrick Kindlon roaring: “Saw a video of some working dogs/Each so happy to do what he does/Muddy...

Welcome to The B-Side, from The Film Stage. Here we talk about filmmakers! Not the films that made them famous or kept them famous, but the ones that they made in between.
Today, as a sort of B-Side to our own recent Bruce Willis B-Side episode, we speak to screenwriter Daniel Waters about Hudson Hawk! And much, much, much more!
Daniel and I talk about the overnight success of Heathers getting made, the overnight failure of Hudson Hawk, followed by the complicated reaction to Batman Returns. Oh, and what about the three seashells in Demolition Man?
We also discuss Renny Harlin and The Adventures of Ford Fairlane, that incredible Sandra Bullock performance, and his underseen directorial efforts (Happy Campers and Sex and Death 101).
Questions asked and answered include: what happened to all of the individual style in screenplays? Why does everybody save the cat these days? Is there a...

1993’s Demolition Man is a ridiculous movie. There are poop-swabbing seashells, dystopian Taco Bells and a nude Sylvester Stallone dummy that later became the creepiest Planet Hollywood decoration of all-time. Seriously, who put this on the ceiling of a family restaurant and thought that it wouldn’t emotionally scar children?
Then there’s the cast. Instead of a more seasoned actor, the producers hired comedian Denis Leary to play Edgar Friendly, the leader of a guerrilla army of resistance fighters, which, I guess makes sense, considering that his rebels are opposed to the politically correct fascists who won’t let him have any fun.
He basically does a tight five in the middle of the movie all about how he yearns to smoke cigars in restaurants and read Playboy magazine while nude and slathered in green Jell-o. It’s kind of hard not to side with the evil police state after that.

MCU’s foray into the multiversal genre has enabled us to have several versions of any character. Spider-Man: No Way Home and Loki have tried hard to explain this concept to us. Long before Marvel made history with its billion-dollar Avengers film or Academy Award-nominated Black Panther, the pieces of the comic universe were scattered among Hollywood’s numerous studios. The MCU played with only the spades in its deck by bringing out Iron Man, Thor, and Captain America.
But true universe-building only began when Disney acquired Marvel Studios in 2009 and 20th Century Studios in 2019, essentially bringing the MCU, the X-Men, and the Fantastic Four properties under one banner.

Among them, X-Men and the Fantastic Four primarily take the cake with Pedro Pascal leading the charge in the MCU Phase Six film.

Rocky creator Sylvester Stallone has penned a memoir called Steps, and it’ll be with us next year. More here:
According to Deadline, Sylvester Stallone has just made a seven figure deal for the rights to Steps, a memoir that is described as “deeply personal” with a narrative shaped by teachable stories from Stallone’s life and career similar to the hybrid memoir/self-help scope of Matthew McConaughey’s 2020 bestseller Greenlights. The book’s title alludes to the iconic running scene outside the Philadelphia Museum of Art from Rocky.
Stallone has been especially introspective lately, with fly on the wall documentary The Family Stallone being a big hit for Paramount+, the streaming service which also hosts crime thriller Tulsa King, in which Stallone plays protagonist Dwight ‘The General’ Manfredi. Thom Zimmey directed the 2023 documentary Sly, which is available to watch on on Netflix.

What is it about Speed that always keeps people coming back for more? Now celebrating its third decade as one of the greatest action films ever made, Jan de Bont’s positively explosive bare bones rush hour movie is a rare case of an enduring Hollywood classic, with insanely bankable stars, that hasn’t been re-upped, remade or rebooted to death.
30 years on, it has spawned a wealth of imitators, a legion of die-hard fans (50Mph podcast we see you) and an entire legacy of super straightforward, super effective action cinema. But really only one legitimate sequel. So, what happened? How did such an influential movie falter? Why is an IP-hungry Hollywood, that’s somehow so starved it’s willing to bankroll a 9-figure stuntman movie based on an ancient and barely remembered ’80s TV show, so Speed-phobic? And most importantly of all, is the original still just as good as you remember it?...

Long before headlining Amazon Prime’s The Boys series as Billy Butcher, Karl Urban attempted to lead a comic book film Dredd. The film was based on the comic strip Judge Dredd created by John Wagner and Carlos Ezquerra for the 2000 Ad comic magazine. However, Urban’s film was not the first adaptation of Judge Dredd, as Sylvester Stallone did it first in his 1995 film of the same name.

Hugh Grant was one of the quintessential rom-com leading men of the 90s among the likes of Richard Gere and Leonardo DiCaprio. He was a popular heartthrob who managed to impress fans with his natural charm and his nonchalant humor. His roles in Four Weddings and a Funeral, Notting Hill, Bridget Jones’ Diary, and Love Actually made audiences swoon in the 90s and early 2000s.
Hugh Grant as William Thacker in Notting Hill
Another one of Grant’s popular films was 2002’s Two Weeks Notice where he was paired with Sandra Bullock. The duo had met five years prior and they had discussed working together. Wesley Snipes’ Blade Trilogy has a cult following with a loyal and dedicated fandom. As MCU is set to reboot the franchise with Oscar-winning star Mahershala Ali, fans have long sought the reappearance of Snipes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Now, a recent rumor suggests that there is still room for Snipes’ Blade in the MCU.

Nothing is beyond possibility, at least in the multiverse saga. Spider-Man: No Way Home is a prime example of that, as the Tom Holland starrer movie created the spectacle bringing back Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield alongside their iconic villains. The 1990s represented a golden epoch for action cinema. This was the time which saw VHS and its digitized successor DVD introduce a whole new generation of fans to the magic of stars like Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone. And those titans from the ‘80s still claimed big wins, too, at the box office and home media via the likes of Terminator 2: Judgement Day, Demolition Man, and Cliffhanger.
It was also the decade that saw audiences turn out in droves to theaters and rental stores to catch a glimpse of Steven Seagal’s flying fists in movies like Under Siege or Jean-Claude Van Damme and his trademark splits in Timecop; Jackie Chan finally got the larger American fanbase he so richly deserved thanks to the Rush Hour movies while Bruce Willis gave us Die Hard With A Vengeance, the best of all the Die Hard sequels, before pivoting...

Marco Brambilla's 1993 film "Demolition Man" has a pretty wild premise. In the near-future of 1996, a wildly destructive criminal named Simon Phoenix (Wesley Snipes) is at large and taking hostages in Los Angeles. The cop sent in to apprehend Pheonix is John Spartan (Sylvester Stallone), an officer so reckless that he's earned the nickname of Demolition Man. When Spartan finds and confronts Pheonix, he explodes the building they're in. They both escape, but an investigation reveals the bodies of the hostages in the rubble. Oops. Spartan didn't handle that operation very well.
As punishment, Spartan and Pheonix are both subjected to a new prison experiment. Instead of living in cells, prisoners are cryogenically frozen for decades and fed subliminal rehabilitation messages. Spartan is thawed in the year 2032, where the world is now overseen by a benevolent (seeming) right-wing cult leader who has whipped Los Angeles -- now San Angeles -- into shape.

Sylvester Stallone is not only one of the best actors in Hollywood but also one of the best action heroes in the industry. That is not to say that he has not tried other genres, but the action genre seems to fit him the best. His beefed-up body along with the signature snarling look and slurred speech, due to the accidental severing of a nerve during his birth, contribute to his success as an action hero.
Sylvester Stallone is gracing his fans’ screens with the second season of the Paramount Plus reality show- The Family Stallone. That being said, he is also getting ready to take over the big screen with the anticipated sequel of 1993’s Cliffhanger. During an interview, he revealed the reason for agreeing to do the reboot to be an impressive script.

In a world where superheroes, sequels, horror (thankfully) and anything IP related are king, it seems as though the risqué original thriller has gone by the wayside. Over the past ten years or so you’d be hard pressed to find anything other than The Invisible Man, You Should Have Left, Gerald’s Game, Gone Girl, or Knock, Knock that really fit the mold (albeit with some finagling) and each of those is either tied to popular literature or skews closer to the horror genre.
But the original thriller thrived in the 1990s. Also thriving during this beautiful time in Hollywood were action movies featuring two adversaries face to face on the poster and/or movie cover. Movies like Face/Off, Point Break, Demolition Man, Universal Soldier, and Broken Arrow. 1992’s Unlawful Entry combines both of these elements with two heaping sides of the stalker and slasher horror subgenres. Which is why...

If you’re like me and so many other nineties kids, you may remember Eye See You (watch it Here) as that Sylvester Stallone film you saw late in his career sitting on the shelves at your local Blockbuster or Hollywood Video featuring Sly pointing a gun in a snowy landscape looking just as surprised as you to be there with such little fanfare. Stallone belongs on the “Guaranteed to have in-stock or you get a free rental” Holy shit package wall of the video store or at the very least in an interesting role among an all-star cast like he’d been in with Cop Land a few years previous.

Sylvester Stallone will return to the top of the mountain in 2024 for Cliffhanger 2. More on the sequel here:
Earlier this year, before the Hollywood strikes sent the world of film production into a chaotic tailspin, we heard that Sylvester Stallone would be making a follow-up to his 1993 hit, Cliffhanger.
The film still ranks as one of Stallone’s best action movies and is remembered fondly. Greenland’s Ric Roman Waugh signed on to direct, the talk was of a Top Gun: Maverick-style legacy sequel – and it all sounded pretty interesting.
Fast forward to a post-strike world, and the project is thankfully still alive – although a few changes have taken place.
Waugh is no longer on the project and has, as reported by Screen Daily, been replaced by Plane director, Jean-Francois Richet. The project is truly international given that it’s a British/German co-production with an American movie star headlining,...

Sandra Bullock partially made her career off of action films like Speed and Demolition Man. Although the genre treated her well enough, she wasn’t always sure if it was designed for female actors to thrive in.
Sandra Bullock felt action films did women a disservice in the 2000s Sandra Bullock | Axelle/Bauer-Griffin/FilmMagic
Bullock believed the action genre became even less accommodating to female actors as time went on. Ironically, she herself experienced her breakthrough role opposite Keanu Reeves in Speed. This led to a bit of a career winning streak for Bullock that saw the Oscar-winner return to the genre a couple of times.
In 2002, she starred in the darker action thriller Murder by Numbers. Perhaps what intrigued her the most about the feature was the character she ended up playing. She felt the role was a callback to characters from another time that all but vanished in the new millennium.

Evildoers beware! Sylvester Stallone is getting back in the ring with Amazon MGM Studios to develop Samaritan 2, a sequel to the Italian Stallion’s 2022 superhero action movie. Bragi F. Schut, who wrote the first film, returns to pen the sequel, with Stallone producing alongside his Balboa Productions partner Braden Aftergood. In addition to producing the film, Stallone reprises his role as Joe from the original.
Here’s the official synopsis for Samaritan:
Thirteen-year-old Sam Cleary (Javon “Wanna” Walton) suspects that his mysterious and reclusive neighbor Mr. Smith (Sylvester Stallone), is actually a legend hiding in plain sight. Twenty-five years ago, Granite City’s super-powered vigilante, Samaritan, was reported dead after a fiery warehouse battle with his rival, Nemesis. Most believe Samaritan perished in the fire, but some in the city, like Sam, have hope that he is still alive. With crime on the rise and the city on the brink of chaos,...

It's all too easy to miss your big chance in Hollywood, whether it's by ending up in a flop through no fault of your own or missing the wrong phone call. It's a career tragedy that can happen to anyone, and it creates agonizing memories for stars still at the top of their careers. Just ask Bill Murphy about the time he did pick up his phone and wound up with a gig in "Garfield." That involved a mix-up over last names but it goes to show that anything can happen. To anyone.
The good news? Not every movie madness mixup ends in disaster. One star's missed call might be another's golden hour. A tragedy behind the scenes can create an opportunity for a fresh and far better take on a character. Science fiction definitely isn't exempt from Hollywood chaos, and in the case of some of our favorite movies,...

The actor, who was a very small actor back then, had written the script himself which he maintains, is his best till date.

Sylvester Stallone says screening the 1958 Hollywood adventure fantasy flick Hercules, starring Steve Reeves, changed his life when he was 12 years of age.
“I was very lucky, in the golden age of films, when dialogue was important. But the dialogue didn’t move me as much as the actual physical embodiment of overcoming odds,” Stallone said of movies that tap into ancient mythology during an in-conversation appearance at the Toronto Film Festival on Friday afternoon.
He was also influenced by comic books when conjuring up action hero fantasies in his head. “Coming to the rescue, not so much as a superhero, just as a guy who was forced to,” Stallone said of early artistic inspirations.
He also talked about getting a job as an usher in a cinema house after college to do more than take tickets at the turnstile. He got an education in movie-making. “Watching those films over and over and over,...

In the article series Sound and Vision we take a look at music videos from notable directors. This week we take a look at Kanye West's Power, directed by Marco Brambilla. Marco Brambilla is a curious director, in that he has made features, video installations and a music video, but that his major splashes in each area are quite distinct from each other. His sole hit as a film director, Demolition Man, is often remembered for its idiosyncrasies, but is also a fairly by the numbers Stallone sci-fi action vehicle. Even if the iffy politics hint at a larger satirical slant, its commentary is quite muddled. In any case, it is somewhat of a cult classic, precisely because its rougher edges hint at an...

Artist-turned-actor Sylvester Stallone will have a retrospective of his original paintings and art pieces at the Toronto Film Festival, starting today.
The exhibit with mixed-media art, writings and memorabilia by the Rocky and Expendables star will run throughout TIFF, leading up to the world premiere of Netflix’s Stallone documentary Sly that is set to close the Toronto festival on Sept. 16 with a gala screening.
The Bell Lightbox exhibit features 12 original paintings and art pieces created by Stallone from 1975 to 2020. Most are abstract, with vivid paintbrush swirls enveloping images of boxers and commentary on Hollywood fame and royalty. One work, Family Ties, depicts a pregnant mother and a distant father and illustrates the artist’s use of a limited color palette of black, white and red.

The demon Valak, aka The Nun, is among the most infamous faces in "The Conjuring" universe. Aside from perhaps the doll Annabelle, Valak's image looms over the franchise more than any other. According to a lawsuit put forth by actress Bonnie Aarons (via The Hollywood Reporter), who played the character in "The Conjuring 2," "The Nun," and "The Nun 2," the character shows up on official merch a lot, too. Now, Aarons is asking for a cut of royalties she says she's owed, alleging via a suit obtained by THR that Warner Bros. has been exploiting her "talent, creativity, and likeness."

The early nineties were arguably the heyday of brawny action. Arnold Schwarzenegger was the world’s biggest star, thanks to Total Recall and Terminator 2. Sylvester Stallone was just a little behind him with Cliffhanger and Demolition Man, but the lower-tier action stars were starting to catch up. Steven Seagal had a string of hits and was briefly about to hit the big time with Under Siege. At the same time, the Muscles from Brussels was finding his way into bigger studio fare and teamed up with arguably the greatest action director of all time for one of his best movies – Hard Target, which is celebrating the 30th anniversary of its release.

Sly, Sylvester Stallone’s career-spanning documentary for Netflix, recalling the action icon’s famous performances in Rocky to Rambo to The Expendables, is set to close the Toronto Film Festival on Sept. 16 with a world premiere at Roy Thomson Hall.
While a Netflix title, Sly is a documentary film not covered by the SAG-AFTRA TV and theatrical agreements, so the Hollywood actor, writer, director and producer could potentially be in Toronto to walk the red carpet, though his presence is not assured amid the actors strike.
Stallone’s retrospective in Toronto follows a career resurgence on TV where he stars in the Paramount+ dramedy Tulsa King, which has been renewed for a second season, and his Paramount+ family reality show, The Family Stallone, which just finished airing its eight episodes and has also been renewed for a second season.

If you’re a fan of Mel Gibson’s classic action flicks, be sure to stream them before they leave Max at the end of August.
All four “Lethal Weapon” movies and “Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome,” starring the late, great Tina Turner, will be leaving the streaming service. Luckily, you’ll have all month to watch them.
Watching the new “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem” animated movie in theaters? Max has several films featuring the radical reptilians: the live-action “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze” (1991)
and “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III” (1993), as well as the animated “Tmnt” (2007).
Kaiju fans will want to check out “Godzilla” (2014), “Godzilla: King of the Monsters” (2019), “King Kong” (1933) and “Journey 2: The Mysterious Island” (2012).
Finally, if horror is your thing, six “Hellraiser” films and “The Ring Two” make great summer scares.

1995 wasn’t a good year for Sylvester Stallone at the multiplex. His summer tentpole, Judge Dredd, flopped domestically, and it was quickly followed by Richard Donner’s Assassins, which only grossed $30 million at the domestic box office. While Sly’s career had seen a few slumps, his straightforward action movies typically performed, and the failure of those two films put his clout as one of the world’s biggest stars in jeopardy. In this episode of Sylvester Stallone Revisited, we’re going to talk about a movie that was supposed to be a big-budget, commercial change of pace for the actor but wound up being the last would-be blockbuster he’d star in for years. That’s right; we’re going to talk about Rob Cohen’s Daylight.
