At the beginning of Shawn Levy's "Deadpool & Wolverine," Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) is informed that, thanks to a strange whim of cosmic fate, his entire timeline is unraveling. He is told that Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) was a being of reality-shaping significance called an "anchor being," and when he died, his entire reality will begin to dissipate. Deadpool, distressed by this news, steals a reality-jumping widget and -- in an amusing montage -- cycles through many, many alternate universes, looking for a parallel Wolverine that would serve as an adequate replacement.
Most of the Wolverines are played by Hugh Jackman, albeit with very different personalities. One Wolverine is viciously animalistic and sports a wild mane of hair. Another is a comic-accurate three feet tall. In a bleak universe, Wolverine has been crucified on an "X" amid a field of bloody skulls. One of the Wolverines is played by celebrity guest...

This article is the best at what it does, but what it does is spoil Deadpool & Wolverine.
When it comes to the big screen, there’s only one Wolverine and his name is Hugh Jackman. After Dougray Scott stuck shooting Mission: Impossible II for longer than anticipated and had to drop out of playing Logan in 2000’s X-Men, Jackman has owned the part. Not even a noble and beloved death in Logan can put a stop to Jackman’s reign as cinema’s premiere Canucklehead, as he dons the goofy mask and yellow duds in full for Deadpool & Wolverine.
But while Deadpool & Wolverine does further delay the inevitable recasting of Logan for the MCU, it also gives viewers a look at different types of Wolverine. Sure, these are all still Hugh Jackman—save, of course, for the one played by Henry Cavill—but at least there’s some more flavor.

Director John Woo has remade his iconic 1989 Hong Kong action film The Killer in America. Here’s the trailer.
John Woo is, of course, one of the forefathers of the modern action film, helping to create an entire subgenre known as Heroic Bloodshed.
From his earliest martial arts film Hand Of Death through the legendary Hard Boiled and The Killer to his underrated English language debut Broken Arrow and blockbusters like Face/Off and Mission: Impossible 2, Woo’s action sequences are as majestic as they are brutally balletic.
The Killer, released in 1989, followed Chow Yun-Fat as a troubled hitman who injures a singer during a bloody shootout. He must commit one last hit to raise the money for her operation, without which she will go blind. It’s often cited as one of the greatest action films ever made – if you’ve never had the pleasure, it really is incredible.

John Woo, who got his start making films in Hong Kong before directing bombastic Hollywood blockbusters like "Face/Off," "Broken Arrow," and "Mission: Impossible II," is one of the unquestioned masters of the action genre. He's one of the most influential directors of all time and the maestro of "heroic bloodshed," a subgenre about violence, brotherhood, and redemption populated by thieves, killers, cops, and scoundrels. In his movies, Woo was able to infuse his action scenes with a style, liquidity, and balletic sense of movement that was unlike anything moviegoers had seen before. After a long break from Hollywood filmmaking, Woo returned last year for the theatrically released "Silent Night," and now he's back again with an unusual new film for Peacock: "The Killer," which is a remake of his own 1989 action classic that starred Chow Yun-fat and Danny Lee.

Update: Nicole Kidman has given a new interview to the LA Times on the occasion of Eyes Wide Shut‘s 25th anniversary, providing new details on the film’s creation (among them surprising notice of where her own input made the final cut). Read the original story below.
Stanley Kubrick’s final film opened 25 years ago today to largely befuddled disinterest. Even in more recent years its champions (Martin Scorsese most notable among them) seemed quixotic claiming it would someday receive appreciation à la 2001, Barry Lyndon, or The Shining. 25 years hence, Eyes Wide Shut seems nearly incontestable as one of the director’s supreme achievements––something that still feels unresolved and irreconcilable, every viewing the opportunity to glance at incomprehensible horrors among your community and within yourself.

A few months ago, Paramount and Miramax announced that they are reviving the Scary Movie horror parody series to bring a Scary Movie 6 to theatres sometime in 2025 – and that announcement has inspired us to go back and revisit the earlier entries in the franchise. Last month, we covered the original Scary Movie, and now time for Scary Movie 2 (watch it Here) to get the Revisited treatment. You can hear all about it in the video embedded above.
Directed by Keenen Ivory Wayans from a screenplay written by the team of Shawn Wayans, Marlon Wayans, Alyson Fouse, Greg Grabianski, Dave Polsky, Michael Anthony Snowden, and Craig Wayans, Scary Movie 2 has the following synopsis: As the supernatural extension of the first film, Scary Movie 2 casts its satirical eye on such iconic classics as The Exorcist, House on Haunted Hill, and Poltergeist, as well as the more recent films Hannibal and What Lies Beneath.

Hugh Jackman Was Almost Too Tall to Play Wolverine - Main Image
It may be difficult to imagine the adamantium-clawed mutant being played by a different actor, but there was a time when Hugh Jackman did not own the role.
Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige recalls that Jackman was “rejected initially” to be Wolverine in X-Men (2000), with Dougray Scott landing the role.
“In my memory, one of the main reasons was that he was too tall. Wolverine in the comics is sometimes called 'Lil' Fireplugs'. He's a short guy,” Feige says. At 1.88 meters, the Australian actor is 28cm taller than the comic book character.
Scott eventually had to drop out due to scheduling conflicts with his other project, Mission: Impossible 2. Jackman would then secure the career-defining role, appearing as Wolverine in nine movies over two decades, and becoming one of the most recognisable superhero actors.

Netflix’s Too Hot To Handle Season 6: Meet The Singles Ready To Break Lana’s Rules (With A Twist!). (Photo Credit – Instagram)
A new batch of hot singles are back on Netflix’s Too Hot To Handle and are ready to turn up the heat. The sixth season of the reality show is returning to the screen on 19th July. But this time, Lana will welcome the contestants with a twist as the season’s cast will know that they won’t be allowed to engage in any sort of physical intimacy, unlike the earlier seasons. But this is Lana. We can’t expect her to be so smooth with the cast, and we don’t know if this twist comes from the Bad Lana or the Good Lana. Well, yes, there will be two Lana’s this year and this season is going to be really hot to handle.

The narrative around Hugh Jackman claiming the role of Wolverine in the 2000 film “X-Men” is well-known lore at this point. As the story goes, Scottish actor Dougray Scott was already cast, but Tom Cruise refused to let Scott be both the villain in “Mission: Impossible 2” and Wolverine, so Scott dropped out, forcing the team behind “X-Men” into a mad dash to find a replacement before production was set to begin. Kevin Feige, an assistant to producer Lauren Shuler Donner at the time, recently shared in an interview with Entertainment Weekly some behind-the-scenes details on what went on.
“There was a scramble to get our Wolverine,” Feige said. “Lauren was very excited about this Australian guy, who had been rejected initially. In my memory, one of the main reasons was that he was too tall. Wolverine in the comics is called ‘Lil’ Fireplugs’ sometimes. He’s a short guy. But they were desperate.

Robert Towne – who died Monday at 89 – was more than just an Oscar winner, more than a mere successful screenwriter. He was the acknowledged master of the craft itself who achieved something no other writer has been able to match (before or since): he earned Academy Award screenplay nominations for three critical and commercial hits in successive years, all released in a single dizzying 14-month period. There was “The Last Detail” in 1974, “Chinatown” (for which he won his lone writing Oscar) in 1975 and “Shampoo” in ’76. He would also earn a bid in 1985 for “Greystoke: The Legend of Tarzan, Lord of the Apes.” But it was that remarkable run in the Seventies that established Towne as a screen wordsmith without peer.
In fact, Towne would become known as much for his writing on films for which he received no screen credit than the ones he did. A look at his IMDb...

Since Hugh Jackman’s debut as Wolverine in 2000’s X-Men, the actor has not only become synonymous with the adamantium-clawed mutant but also a Marvel staple set to appear in Ryan Reynolds’ upcoming Deadpool & Wolverine. Through his Marvel tenure, Jackman has won over audiences with his sheer commitment to his role, as well as his charisma and physicality.

It's a well-known piece of Marvel trivia that Dougray Scott was originally cast as Wolverine in 2000's X-Men. However, a scheduling conflict meant he had to commit to Mission: Impossible 2 (at Tom Cruise's behest), leaving the door open to Hugh Jackman being picked to play Logan at the last minute.
Talking to Entertainment Weekly, the actor looked back at reading lines for director Bryan Singer and the movie's unimpressed screenwriter, Tom DeSanto.
"He's just going, 'Quiet... Quieter... Quieter.' By the end, I couldn't even hear myself," Jackman says of DeSanto. "I could tell he was like, 'Why on my lunch hour am I auditioning some guy for a part that I've already cast?' He was pissed off."

Many fans will be surprised to learn that the relationship between Kevin Feige and Hugh Jackman goes way back to the latter’s X-Men days. When Jackman came to audition for the last-minute role of Wolverine, Feige was a low-level producer’s assistant on the set. Jackman recalled Feige’s kindness to him when he felt that he had failed the audition.

Robert Towne, the screenwriter who wrote the Academy Award-winning original script for Roman Polanski’s Chinatown, has died at the age of 89. His publicist, Carri Mclure, announced that Towne died at his home in Los Angeles on Monday.
He originally set out to work as an actor and writer and quickly found employment with Roger Corman. He scripted Corman’s Last Woman on Earth and also co-starred in the film under the pseudonym Edward Wain. He also wrote The Tomb of Ligeia for Corman. Towne then earned a reputation as a top script doctor after Warren Beatty asked him to help out on Bonnie and Clyde. He went on to make uncredited contributions to movies such as The Godfather, The Parallax View, Marathon Man, The Missouri Breaks, Heaven Can Wait, Crimson Tide, and more.

Writer-director Robert Towne, an Oscar winner for his original script for “Chinatown” and an acknowledged master of the art of screenwriting, has died. He was 89.
Towne died Monday at his home in Los Angeles, publicist Carrie McClure said in a statement.
During a long career that began in the 1960s, when he went to work as an actor and writer for B-movie director Roger Corman, Towne became one of the most sought-after script doctors in movie history, called on time and again to solve structural problems and create great moments for other people’s films.
Towne came to prominence in the 1970s with three critical and commercial hits released within a 14-month period: “The Last Detail” (1973), “Chinatown” (1974) and “Shampoo” (1975). All three screenplays were Oscar- nominated, with “Chinatown” winning in its year.
Hired as a “special consultant” by Warren Beatty for 1967’s “Bonnie and Clyde,” Towne restructured the picture to dramatize the outlaws’ impending doom.

IGN got the exclusive first look at The Killer, John Woo’s upcoming remake of his own 1989 action classic. This new version stars Nathalie Emmanuel as Zee, a mysterious assassin known as the Queen of the Dead. When she refuses to kill a young blind woman (Diana Silvers) on the orders of her handler, Finn (Sam Worthington), her world implodes, and she finds herself on the run, attracting the attention of police investigator Sy (Omar Sy).
You can check out three first-look images from The Killer below.
“[Zee] has a very specific code in how she likes to do things,” Emmanuel told IGN. “And when she’s told who and when to kill somebody, she does it in her own specific way. And her dilemma in this movie is that she’s being asked to kill somebody who she doesn’t believe deserves it. And for some reason she can’t...

Here’s a nice summer surprise: a new action thriller directed by John Woo is arriving this August. Following up last year’s Silent Night, Woo has directed a reimagining of his own 1989 classic, The Killer. Scripted by Brian Helgeland, the update of the same name (which has nothing to do with David Fincher’s film from last year) stars Nathalie Emmanuel, Sam Worthington, Omar Sy, Diana Silvers, Saïd Taghmaoui, Tchéky Karyo, Eric Cantona, and Grégory Montel. Sadly relegated to just streaming, it’ll arrive on Peacock on August 23 and now the first images have arrived.
Here’s the synopsis: Nathalie Emmanuel is Zee, a mysterious and infamous assassin known, and feared, in the Parisian underworld as the Queen of the Dead. But when, during an assignment from her shadowy mentor and handler Finn (Sam Worthington), Zee refuses to kill a blinded young woman, Jenn (Diana Silvers), in a Paris nightclub,...

Tom Cruise has earned a reputation for being one of the most daring Hollywood stars, especially for performing extreme stunts through the action spy film series, Mission: Impossible. His commitment to executing some of the most breathtaking stunts in cinematic history has become a hallmark of the franchise.

There is a list of great many things on Tom Cruise’s daily planner that he needs to accomplish, preferably before sundown. One of those things does not include being insulted for his already heavily criticized movie – Mission: Impossible II – 24 years after its release. However, Carrie Coon missed the memo on the subject since it is only now that the actress has started binge-watching all of Ethan Hunt’s magnificent globe-trotting adventures.

But given the niche genre that Tom Cruise’s movies appeal to – the action-hungry, adventure-loving audience – it never occurred to her to get acquainted with the spy franchise until very recently. After all, her co-worker and somewhat best friend Shea Wigham is in the final two installments of the IP.

Patrick Stewart was more popular than Hugh Jackman when Bryan Singer approached him to play Professor Charles Xavier in X-Men. For Star Trek fans, he was the famous Captain Jean-Luc Picard from The Next Generation. Singer got to meet him on the set of 1997’s Conspiracy Theory, which X-Men executive producer Richard Donner directed. However, Stewart was reluctant to take on the role for one reason.

Ever consider whether the most accomplished directors in Hollywood share a mutual admiration for one another? Amidst this mutual reverence, we recently learned about a fascinating anecdote: The acclaimed Hong Kong filmmaker & master of intense action, John Woo, once declared his adoration for the legendary Martin Scorsese.

With a career that has lit up theaters with films like Mission: Impossible 2 and A Better Tomorrow, Woo’s admiration for Scorsese’s work goes beyond rivalry, allowing viewers to delve into a moving homage given in the former’s classic film The Killer. Despite receiving positive reviews for its lavish style and action scenes, this 1989 masterwork did not openly succeed in Hong Kong but went on to win over critics all over the world.

Memorial Day weekend is upon us, and the box office is looking grim. The “Mad Max” prequel “Furiosa” is on track to score the lowest No. 1 Memorial Day weekend in nearly three decades, since 1998’s “Casper,” with an estimated $31 million take. But traditionally, the holiday weekend is a big one for moviegoing – kids are out of school, adults have three days off and the summer movie season is ready to roll.
For that reason, it feels like a good time to look back at the highest-grossing Memorial Day weekend box office openings of all time, dating back to 1996. Now it’s important to note these are Memorial Day weekend openings not Memorial Day weekend box office champions – “The Day After Tomorrow” pulled in over $85 million when it opened in 2004, but the top film at the box office for the holiday weekend was holdover “Shrek 2.”

Canadian director Louise Archambault’s latest work, Irena’s Vow has a fascinating real-life story at the center of it. It is about a young Polish woman going out of her way to save the lives of as many as twelve Jews during the Second World War. But the execution of it is extremely basic. Naturally, the result is another war-drama movie that is decent at best and completely rests on the shoulders of its lead performer, Sophie Nelisse. Well, I have to say Nelisse makes it work by being truly fantastic in the role of Irena. While Irena’s Vow fails to be anything other than a biopic filled with tropes, it does throw you a surprise by casting Dougray Scott as a Nazi officer. I have an affinity for the actor thanks to his villainous turn in Mission: Impossible 2, which was released almost a quarter century ago; since then,...

Ian McKellen is one of the most respected and talented actors in Hollywood. Over the course of his lengthy career, he established himself as a force to be reckoned with, achieving so much through his acting career that he was even knighted by Queen Elizabeth II. His versatility knows no limitations, having starred in many different kinds of roles and movies from all genres.
Sir Ian McKellen as Gandolf in The Hobbit
Considering just how talented and successful he is, it is not surprising that the actor is offered many different types of roles. Sometimes that may be through lesser-known sources, and others they may be very high-profile projects.
It would seem that the actor was asked to be a part of Tom Cruise’s iconic film series, Mission: Impossible, being offered the role of Commander Swanbeck in the second movie. Interestingly enough, the actor rejected this offer due to one reason.

After the tremendous success of season 1 of Wednesday, Jenna Ortega is all set to reprise her iconic titular role for the second season. But this second season seems to be a bit more special because, besides Ortega’s return, some new actors will also join the cast. This includes Thandiwe Newton, the actress renowned for playing the role of Nyah Nordoff-Hall in Mission: Impossible 2.
Wednesday is being renewed for season 2.
According to the latest reports, Newton is the most recent actor cast in season 2 of the spooky Netflix series. And since this piece of news — which comes after reports of Steve Buscemi’s casting in the show — hasn’t specified what character she would portray, the actress has gotten under massive speculation among fans on just what role she could be playing in the saga.

With a career spanning over six decades, Ian McKellen has entertained audiences across generations. The Hollywood star isn’t typecast, as he can convincingly portray heroes, villains, Shakespearean characters, comedic roles, and more.

His portrayal of Gandalf in The Lord of the Rings is widely considered one of the greatest casting decisions in cinematic history. However, fans may be surprised to learn that Tom Cruise’s franchise nearly stole McKellen away from Middle-earth altogether.

Before Carrie Coon busted ghosts with a proton pack in the Ghostbusters franchise, she battled the ghostly figures of the Guilty Remnant with a garden hose on The Leftovers. Of course, both projects are wildly different in genre and tone, but they’re two of several examples where Coon has added a welcome complexity to mother characters that is not as common as it should be. In Gil Kenan’s Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, Coon picks up right where she left off in Jason Reitman’s 2021 franchise revival, Ghostbusters: Afterlife. Her Callie Spengler character, along with boyfriend Gary Grooberson (Paul Rudd) and her two teenage children, Phoebe (Mckenna Grace) and Trevor (Finn Wolfhard), are now full-fledged Ghostbusters, operating out of the famous firehouse in New York City.
“Callie feels like a very real mom who’s maybe not always great at the job, and makes mistakes and has to make repairs.

Five years have gone by since Tom Cruise announced that Paramount Pictures had given the greenlight to two more Mission: Impossible movies, with Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation (2015) and Mission: Impossible – Fallout (2018) writer/director Christopher McQuarrie returning to the helm. At one point, we thought these movies were going to carry the titles Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One and Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part Two… but Paramount is backtracking from that decision. After Dead Reckoning Part One underwhelmed at the box office when it was released last year, the studio has dropped Part One from the subtitle and has let it be known that the next film, which is still in production, will have a different title. A decision they really should have made before releasing the first half of the story. At least we’re still getting the second half of the story, with the...

European giant Beta Film, known for ambitious titles such as “Babylon Berlin” and “The Swarm,” has shared with Variety in exclusivity a first-look picture of 1o-part series “Rise of the Raven,” which it hails as “one of the most epic European TV productions of all time.”
“Rise of the Raven” weighs in as a passion project of Hungarian-born and Canada-based producer Robert Lantos, behind “Sunshine,” “The Sweet Hereafter,” “Barney’s Version,” “Eastern Promises” and “Crimes of the Future.”
A highlight at Beta Film’s showcase this Tuesday at the London TV Screenings, “Rise of the Raven” turns on the extraordinary feat of Hungarian army commander Janos Hunyadi, played by discovery Gellért L. Kádár, who in 1456 won a bloody, brutal Battle of Belgrade against a vast Ottoman force twice the size of his troops who were often farm labourers armed with just slings and patriotic fervor.

Emotions and politics fly fast and hard in Siddharth Anand's mega-budget Hindi-language “Fighter”, a new attempt at making the next big cinematic universe after his stints in Yash Raj Films' Spy Universe, “War” and “Pathaan”. While “Pathaan” heralded the return of Bollywood legend Shah Rukh Khan, “War” saw him refine his partnership with the similarly beloved Hrithik Roshan, giving him another super-hunk super-spy role after “Bang Bang!”, a remake of the Tom Cruise/Cameron Diaz action rom-com “Knight & Day”. The shadow of Tom Cruise looms over Anand's work with increasing prominence nowadays; “Pathaan” recruited “Top Gun: Maverick”‘s stunt coordinator Casey O'Neill as its second unit and action director, and now, Anand's very own production company Marflix Pictures utilises Roshan's lucrative leading man status into India's very own “Top Gun” (complete with a villain modelled off Cruise's hair and outfit in “Mission: Impossible II”). There are loads of tantalizing Hollywood casting what-ifs. Tom Selleck would've played Indiana Jones had he not been previously committed to CBS' "Magnum P.I." Pierce Brosnan was set to succeed Roger Moore as James Bond after "A View to a Kill," but NBC, realizing the star of their just-canceled "Remington Steele," was a hot commodity, resurrected the show for a fifth season (after which it was canceled again). And there's always poor Dougray Scott, who had to give up the role of Wolverine in Bryan Singer's "X-Men" when "Mission: Impossible II" went over schedule.
These were franchise- and career-altering decisions. What would Harrison Ford have done after the conclusion of the "Star Wars" original trilogy in 1983? Would Brosnan have rejuvenated the flagging Bond series, thus averting the six-year retooling period between "License to Kill" and "GoldenEye?" Could Scott have connected with audiences as emphatically as Hugh Jackman did in the role of Logan?...

When we surveyed our readers about Vin Diesel's best role in 2023, the results were rather illuminating. The actor's "Fast & Furious" counterpart, Dominic Toretto, came in shockingly low, lagging well behind The Iron Giant and Groot. That's right, a giant robot with a limited vocabulary and a sentient tree that only repeats the same sentence over and over were considered better roles for him than the Fast Fam's supposedly beloved patriarch. The number one spot went to Riddick B. Riddick, a morally flexible antihero who would just as soon leave his pals for dead than stick his neck out for them.
Why do these characters fit Diesel so well? Well, if I may be so bold, I would say it's because they all have one thing in common: They don't require him to be remotely sexy.
Now, it's worth clarifying that when I say Diesel isn't "sexy," I'm in no way trashing his appearance.

Zorro and Expats are the big shows coming to Prime Video in January. The former is what Amazon are calling a “bold reinterpretation” of the classic hero El Zorro for 2024. Starring Miguel Bernardeau as Diego de la Vega and Renata Notni as Lolita Marquez, it’s definitely an intriguing-sounding action-adventure series, with a ten-episode first season based on the iconic character originally created by Johnston McCulley all the way back in 1919.
Meanwhile, upcoming drama series Expats is based on the bestselling 2016 novel The Expatriates by Janice Y. K. Lee, and follows “the vibrant lives of a close-knit expatriate community” in Hong Kong. Nicole Kidman has been known for picking the right kind of shows to lead in the past, so let’s hope this is another banger for the actress, who is also on board as an executive producer here.
Here’s everything coming to Amazon Prime Video and Freevee this month.

A New Year means lots of removals from Netflix and January 1st is looking busy, with over 100 movies set to leave the service already. Below, we’ll be keeping track of all the Netflix departures for the first month of 2024.
First, a few housekeeping notes as to how Netflix removals work before we dive in. Due to licensing agreements, shows and movies added to Netflix aren’t added forever. Instead, they’re essentially rented for a fixed period. All the shows below have their current window on Netflix ending and will likely be bound for a rival streaming service.
We list titles slightly differently from other outlets, with our listings being the actual day of removal. If you want to watch any titles scheduled to expire on January 1st, for example, you’ll need to watch by the end of December 31st.

Oscar-winning director Ron Howard (A Beautiful Mind) is currently in production on a new film, a survival thriller formerly known as Origin of the Species and now going by the title Eden, and The Hollywood Reporter has broken the news that the cast has been rounded out by Felix Kammerer (All Quiet on the Western Front), Toby Wallace (Babyteeth), Paul Gleeson (The Thin Red Line), Ignacio Gasparini (Como Hermanas), and Richard Roxburgh, whose previous credits include Moulin Rouge, Rake, Mission: Impossible II, Van Helsing, and Elvis.

Let's be blunt: The current state of action cinema worldwide would not be what it is today without the work of director John Woo. While Woo is hardly the only influential filmmaker when it comes to action movies, he's undeniably one of the biggest figures in shaping the genre. Like any great auteur, Woo's style was developed film by film, working his way through his kung-fu features at Golden Harvest in Hong Kong and adding in more experimental techniques (gleaned from the likes of prior filmmakers such as Sam Peckinpah) until he ended up at his signature magnum opus, 1986's "A Better Tomorrow" and its style, which was dubbed "heroic bloodshed."
Over the next several years in Hong Kong and then through to his transition into Hollywood, Woo expanded his "heroic bloodshed" style, peppering in other influences along the way from some of his other favorite filmmakers like Jean-Pierre Melville and Alfred Hitchcock.

John Woo is one of the best to ever do it. And by "it" I mean "make some of the greatest action movies you'll ever see." Woo pioneered the gun-fu subgenre of Hong Kong films and his work became internationally recognized in the process. It was only a matter of time before America, and Hollywood came calling. Sure enough, Woo finally made his way to Hollywood in the 1990s. Now, after some time away, he's back in the Hollywood groove with "Silent Night," a dialogue-free action pic about a silent man seeking bloody revenge. With the release of "Silent Night" now here, you may be wondering: how do Woo's Hollywood films stack up? Which is the best? Which is the worst? Well, you've come to the right place. So grab two guns, unleash the doves, and get ready to read our official ranking of John Woo's Hollywood films, including "Silent Night.

From The Killer’s church shootout to Mission: Impossible 2’s motorcycle chase, John Woo’s over-the-top action style has been the stuff of legend for many decades, but now, at 77, the Hong Kong filmmaker has changed up his approach, beginning with the virtually dialogue-free revenge thriller Silent Night.
The Joel Kinnaman-led actioner is Woo’s first American film in two decades, an absence he chalks up to no longer being sent quality scripts. On its surface, Silent Night is a classic tale of vengeance, as Kinnaman’s Brian Godlock stops at nothing to avenge the gang-related death of his 7-year-old son. The quest is made all the more intriguing by Godlock’s inability to speak, having suffered a life-altering injury during his failed attempt to go after the offending gang in the immediate aftermath of his son’s death.
