Keanu Reeves — monastic, immortal, wild, and intellectual — is an entity unto himself, a creature that has willed a kind of goodness into this world that defies the condition he was born into. Now held to a pedestal, Reeves refuses to be defined by the fame he has accrued through 50 years of his career, but never shrugs away the love and adoration from his fans.

In a generation defined by box office hitmakers and an era where profitability equates to survival in the movie business, Keanu Reeves hits the ground running with one franchise blockbuster after another. And yet, the actor remains honest about his roots, leaning more toward the Sad Keanu lifestyle than an actor pandering to red-carpet fan attractions.

Keanu Reeves has always had a cult following, no matter what character he plays on the silver screen. Whether it’s as the formidable action icon John Wick, the prodigal hacker in The Matrix, or the undercover FBI agent leading Point Break, the award-winning actor tends to rule every role he picks up.

Despite being a cinematic panjandrum, the Canadian actor has an incredible knack for humility, even when it comes to joining forces with some of the biggest names in the industry. Meanwhile, Charlie Sheen was busy crying in the proverbial corner.

What is a pipedream for many stars – working with Hollywood heavyweights like Last Tango in Paris‘ Bernardo Bertolucci, Francis Ford Coppola, who helmed the ’70s classic The Godfather, and Point Break director Kathryn Bigelow – was an honor that Keanu Reeves got to experience in his prime years.

It seems that acclaimed actor Laurence Fishburne (“The Matrix”) has some uncanny attraction to sci-fi projects centered around doomed spaceships. After his roles in 2016’s “Passengers” and the 1997 cult classic, “Event Horizon,” he is now sharing the screen with the Academy Award-winning Casey Affleck (“Manchester By the Sea”) and Tomer Capone (“The Boys”) in Bleecker Street’s upcoming outer space thriller, “Slingshot.” We’ve got the first full trailer to give you a glimpse of what’s to come. In the very first action set piece of G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, a chopper gets shot out of the sky, crashing in front of a truck carrying heroes that includes Duke (Channing Tatum) and Ripcord (Marlon Wayans). The scene which follow would set the tone for the rest of movie. After that fiery explosion, there is an all-out assault on the soldiers, who do their best to repel the black-clad Cobra troopers. Alas, the heroes’ weapons are no match for the terrorists’ superior tech.
A funny thing, however, is also occurring in this scene—an element which borders on distracting. The camera focuses less on the carnage circling around the heroes and more on the recognizable IP of their vehicles and uniforms. The lens flies past the nose of the Cobra ship attacking Duke and Ripcord in order to instead highlight the high-tech missiles on its side. Each...

On a humid and muggy evening in New York City’s Soho neighborhood, filmmaker and genre maestro M. Night Shyamalan seems particularly giddy while standing in front of a room of assorted press. A major reason is probably that tonight is also the birthday of his leading man and collaborator, Josh Hartnett. The pair apparently have plans for a nice dinner upstairs. However, he also seems genuinely curious to see what a group of journalists are going to think about his and Hartnett’s latest movie, Trap—a serial killer thriller told from the point-of-view of the killer.
According to Shyamalan, it felt just like the type of movies he and his contemporaries made in the 1990s, although we can attest there has never quite been a serial killer movie like this. Not only is Hartnett’s deceptively affable Cooper a predatory wolf in sheep’s clothing, but he’s...

Keanu Reeves is often known for his badass characters on screen and his kind-hearted nature off-screen. The actor has often won the Internet with his humane nature, which involved gifting his stunt team watches, helping crew members financially, and being respectful to his female co-stars.
However, the Internet’s darling has received one criticism which should have ruined his career. Reeves’ range has been described as limited and he has received criticism that he only plays himself in his film. The John Wick star mentioned that he would have a quote based on the Bill & Ted franchise on his gravestone as he received criticisms for it.

Keanu Reeves is one of Hollywood’s most formidable action stars. After having played ruthlessly brutal characters like John Wick and the cyber-criminal-turned-hero Neo in The Matrix, Reeves has solidified his place in Hollywood’s Hall of Fame for his crazy combat and action skills. However, before he was the morally gray hitman, John Wick, or the savior of humanity, Neo, the actor’s first tryst with fame was in the 1994 action thriller, Speed.

Editor’s note: this list was originally published in May 2016. It has since been updated to coincide with the release of “Deadpool & Wolverine.”
In a world before the MCU and the DC Extended Universe (and whatever James Gunn replaces the Dceu with), 20th Century Fox created arguably the first real superhero film universe with everyone’s favorite merry band of mutants, the “X-Men.” Sure, there were superhero series featuring icons like Batman and Superman, but those movies tended to be self-contained. The 2000 “X-Men” films that Bryan Singer directed were the first cape-and-cowl films to eventually spiral into prequels (“First Class”), spinoffs (“Deadpool”), and alternate reality time travel shenanigans (“Days of Future Past”). The franchise wasn’t quite successful at managing this balancing act, and the timeline quickly devolved into utter mush. Luckily, you usually only need to watch a single film to understand it — and there are plenty of them worth experiencing.

Space travel is not for the weak. It takes a special kind of person to brave the cosmos and not recoil from insignificance while coming to grips with how small we are in an ocean of stars and infinite possibilities. If you’re not careful, the weight of your mission and the isolation that comes with the job can warp your senses, making you see and hear things that are not there. In Mikael Håfström’s Slingshot trailer, Casey Affleck, Laurence Fishburne, and Tomer Capone star in a psychological thriller about three astronauts making Ren and Stimpy’s case of space madness look like child’s play.
Here’s the official synopsis for Slingshot courtesy of Bleecker Street:

Keanu Reeves couldn’t be more thankful for the sci-fi mind-bender that made him an icon. The pensive action star was visibly emotional when, during an appearance Tuesday on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, he was asked to share his fondest memory from various productions — and Colbert inquired about The Matrix on its 25th anniversary. After an earnest pause that Colbert joked could be a commercial break, Reeves opened up. The Matrix changed my life, the actor confessed. And then, over these years, it’s changed so many other people’s lives in really positive and great ways. As an artist,...

In the colorfully doctored universe of Star Trek, Wil Wheaton’s Wesley Crusher is a god. The character, who was created in the image of the franchise’s creator Gene Wesley Roddenberry, was gifted with the foresight to impact all of spacetime itself while also upholding the values that make a person worthy of being deemed as a guardian of the multiverse.

In simple terms, Star Trek has modeled the once child prodigy Wesley Crusher into the most powerful being known to man within the in-universe lore, bested only by the space god “Q.” And that has caused some serious hurt to a faction of the older fans who feel an emotional ownership over the franchise since its conception in 1966.

Katy Perry‘s Teenage Dream became the first album by a woman to have five No. 1 songs. One of those tracks is among the best pop songs ever recorded. Another is painfully overrated.
5. ‘Firework’
Blasphemy, I know. To many, “Firework” is one of the best self-empowerment anthems of all time, a perfect pick-me-up to combat sadness and anxiety. As someone who finds self-empowerment anthems almost inherently disingenuous, I never liked “Firework” much. However, I can recognize that it combines baroque strings and dance-pop synthesizers expertly.
After “Firework” topped the Billboard Hot 100 for four weeks, Perry wrote many other songs in this vein. Her other uplifting tracks — “Part of Me,” “Roar,” and “Woman’s World” — got worse and worse. Se should have written another “Teenage Dream” instead of several more “Firework” clones.

For an acting career that started with 1985’s Witness, the 65-year-old Viggo Mortensen has truly come a long way. With a series of star-studded roles trailing right behind him to remind everyone of the legacy he has led so far like as Aragorn in The Lord of the Rings saga, he is easily one of the most commended and respected celebrities in the entertainment industry.

But despite having scored some of the best roles of all time, Mortensen also felt gutted over some roles that ended up choosing other actors over him. Like 1986’s classic action-war masterpiece Platoon, which originally cast him before switching over to Willem Dafoe to replace him — the same film that Keanu Reeves also turned down for being a bit too violent for him.

The star-studded voice cast for the upcoming animated 'Transformers One' movie assembled at San Diego Comic-Con today, providing an exciting casting update for a room full of enthusiastic fans. The all-star voice cast featuring Chris Hemsworth, Brian Tyree Henry, and Scarlett Johansson has a new addition—Steve Buscemi will be voicing the iconic franchise villain, Starscream.
Director Josh Cooley and the cast appeared in the convention center’s legendary Hall H to share details, footage, and the latest trailer for the upcoming Paramount release. The animated prequel explores the origins of Optimus Prime and Megatron and takes place a staggering three billion years before the other Transformers stories. Here’s a breakdown of who’s who in the highly anticipated expansion of the franchise.
Chris Hemsworth as Orion Pax
Chris Hemsworth will lend his vocal talents to the role of Orion Pax, who later becomes the fan-favorite Autobot leader, Optimus Prime. Those are huge shoes to fill, as voice actor Peter Cullen has been the voice of Optimus Prime since the 1980s, in both television and film. But Hemsworth said that because this is the brash, young version of Optimus Prime, the goal was never to sound like Cullen.
Brian Tyree Henry as D-16
Playing opposite Hemsworth is Brian Tyree Henry, who has been tapped to voice D-16, Orion Pax's close friend who eventually becomes his archenemy, Megatron. For Henry, the casting was a dream come true, recalling during the panel that for some reason, his parents only bought him the villain toys. He had the Megatron toy and would make him the hero, because even as a kid he knew that villains don’t start out that way.
Scarlett Johansson as Elita-1
Scarlett Johansson, no stranger to voicing animated characters (‘Sing,’ ‘Her,’ ‘Isle of Dogs’), will bring her star power to the role of Elita-1, a powerful female Autobot warrior and Optimus Prime's love interest.
Keegan-Michael Key as B-127
Comedy star Keegan-Michael Key will provide the voice of B-127, another of Orion Pax's allies. Key shared with the crowd at Hall H that he was a fan from the beginning, rushing home after school and begging his mother to let him watch the cartoon before doing his homework.
Steve Buscemi as Starscream
During the SDCC panel, it was revealed that Steve Buscemi will voice the villainous Decepticon, Starscream. Buscemi's talent for playing weaselly, untrustworthy characters should make him the perfect fit for this treacherous role.
Laurence Fishburne as Alpha Trion
The inimitable Laurence Fishburne will lend his iconic vocals to the wise mentor figure Alpha Trion. In a fun bit of Hollywood connections, ‘Transformers One’ producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura, who appeared onstage at the Comic-Con presentation, helped shepherd another Fishburne film into production 25 years ago—‘The Matrix.’
Jon Hamm as Sentinel Prime
Jon Hamm continues his foray into voice acting—after roles in “Invincible,” “M.O.D.O.K.,” and “Grimsburg”— by taking on the role of Sentinel Prime, one of the original leaders of the Autobots, turned villain.

My local library carried VHS tapes at the time, and The Terminator was one of the few coveted R-rated films I had been wanting to get my hands on. On my first watch, I made it as far as the T-800 cutting out his eye to reveal the mechanical socket underneath before I turned it off. It scared the shit out of me. For weeks, I had nightmares about a man ripping off his face to reveal the machine underneath.

Keanu Reeves is pausing — if not quite pausing time in bullet-time style — to reflect on the legacy of “The Matrix.”
The iconic sci-fi film celebrates its 25th anniversary, and Reeves appeared on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” in part to revisit how much “The Matrix” means to audiences.
“‘The Matrix’ changed my life, and then over these years, it’s changed so many other people’s lives in really positive and great ways,” Reeves said. “As an artist, you hope for that when you get to do a film or tell a story.”
He explained, “So when you say these years, the amount of people that I have met who have said to me and been touched by ‘The Matrix’ in such a positive way…It’s the best.”

Keanu Reeves had to briefly pause an interview with Stephen Colbert during an appearance on “The Late Show” when the host brought up that “The Matrix” is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year. The realization hit Reeves, as he went silent for 20 seconds while trying to find the right words to remember the film by.

But apart from being one of Hollywood’s most wholesome figures, the John Wick star also continues to maintain an optimistic worldview and had a sage answer when asked about his perspective on death.
On his appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, the actor’s response to Colbert’s question about death had everyone in the audience stunned.

Good news for Constantine fans! Keanu Reeves, the star of the original 2005 movie, recently gave us some hope about a possible sequel.
When Keanu was on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, he opened up about Constantine 2. He said things are really moving forward with the project after years of maybes. “It went from ‘no’ to ‘maybe’ and now it’s more of a ‘kinda yes’,” Keanu told Colbert.
The best part is they have a script in the works right now. This means Constantine 2 isn’t just an idea anymore – it’s actually in development! That’s pretty cool since the first movie had mixed reviews and it’s been a long time since 2005.
In Constantine, Keanu plays John Constantine. He’s a detective who can see and talk to half-angels and half-demons. Even though some critics didn’t like it, the movie has a big fan base today.

Deadpool can’t die. If he were a character in Greek mythology, that might be a source of tragedy, but in Wade Wilson’s scuzzy corner of the Marvel universe, it functions as a catalyst for off-color comedy instead. Last time the trash-mouthed mercenary headlined a movie, Deadpool could be seen chugging drain cleaner and trying to nuke himself into oblivion — a stunt that sent his extended middle finger flying in Wolverine’s direction. The two heroes have had a long-running rivalry, since both were given regenerative healing powers via the Weapons-x program, but only Wolverine could make grown men cry. Until now.
The laughs are a given, but not the misty-eyed reaction to the final minutes of “Deadpool & Wolverine,” which is by far the most fan-service sequel released under the Marvel banner — and that’s saying something, since the comic book empire panders even harder to its flock than the faith-based industry does.

Zack Snyder is gearing up to release his Director’s Cut of Rebel Moon, which has gotten fans asking why was there a need for the original version at all. Widely panned by critics, the Rebel Moon duology, which Snyder intends to make as big as its inspiration, Star Wars, has its dedicated fan base, but there is hope that this new iteration of the film will help the IP win some fans who were unimpressed by the previous entries.

Acolyte Tried to Do the Impossible and Fell Predictably Short - Main Image
Duel of the Fates is widely considered to be the best fight scene in Star Wars, if not all of modern cinema. Many directors have tried to top it, including other Star Wars movies, but come out and say it was your intention is surely setting yourself up to fail.
The Acolyte showrunner Leslye Headland has done just that, and it is safe to say that while the fight scenes in her show were good, they still fell short of the climactic battle in The Phantom Menace.

Keanu Reeves Opens Up About Matrix Movies “Red Pill” Metaphor. (Photo Credit – Instagram)
In a recent interview with the Guardian, Keanu Reeves shared his thoughts on the Matrix movies’ metaphors twisted by the Alt-Right to fuel distrust of government and media.
Keanu Reeves (Neo) starred in The Matrix, in which he uncovers humanity lost in a war with machines they created long ago and is now living in a computer simulation created to enslave them. He then joins members of the human resistance against the Machines in the real world.
One of the most iconic scenes in the film sees Morpheus (a member of the human resistance) offer Neo the choice of a blue pill or a red pill. Neo can pop the blue pill and return to life blissfully unaware of the matrix, the simulated world. Or take the red pill, accept reality, and rise against the tyranny of the machines.

X-Men was released in 2000 to positive reviews and respectable box office numbers at a time when Hollywood studios had little interest in bringing superheroes to the big screen.
X2: X-Men United was an even bigger hit, but things started going downhill with the release of X-Men: The Last Stand. However, for comic book fans, there's one thing none of them got right: the costumes!
The entire team was decked out in black leather suits which lacked any personality and, beyond an "X" logo, largely ignored the comic books.
Even when Marvel Studios made colourful superhero suits the norm, X-Men: Apocalypse only teased them before Fox went straight back to bland efforts in Dark Phoenix which led to a fresh round of eye-rolling among fans.

The Matrix aka one of the greatest sci-fi films of all time is a groundbreaking classic that blew everyone’s minds with a trip to a world where everything makes you question reality. One of the best parts about the film is its wild action sequences that keep viewers on the edge of their seats. However, it was not an easy task to achieve such perfection.
The Matrix (1999) | Warner Bros.
Keanu Reeves, Laurence Fishburne, Carrie-Anne Moss, and Hugo Weaving had to go through a grueling training regimen to make sure that they would be able to execute the fight scenes perfectly and do justice to them. Of course, anyone who has seen the film knows that the training paid off well but it sure did take a toll on the actors including Hugo Weaving who revealed that their training went on for about six months.

‘Star Wars: The Acolyte’ faced criticism on several fronts. Its pacing was often deemed erratic, and both fans and critics pointed out awkward dialogues and scripting issues.
