Mark Wahlberg is a Dorchester, Massachusetts native who has brought to life, in the past two decades, a wide variety of characters that have gone far beyond fighting CG robots in the “Transformers” movies.
Wahlberg got his start as a rapper, as the frontman for the group Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch, but it was his good looks rather than musical ability that brought him notoriety as the premier Calvin Klein underwear model in the 1990s. From there it was a quick jump to movies, with the young actor getting his big break as the lead in Paul Thomas Anderson‘s “Boogie Nights” in 1997.
Since then Wahlberg has been working steadily with such A-list directors as Martin Scorsese, Peter Jackson (“The Lovely Bones”), Tim Burton (“Planet of the Apes”), Ridley Scott (“All the Money in the World”) and David O. Russell.

Technological advancements have drastically affected the working of the entertainment industry, with CGI and 3D effects being used in pretty much every live-action project, be it movies or TV series. This especially includes films from major superhero franchises, like the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which has produced some of the most intense VFX projects like the Avengers saga.
Marvel’s heavily CGI-affected Avengers saga.
However, surprisingly enough, one Oscar-nominated actor from one of the best pre-Avengers films, who had one of the most prominent side roles in Captain America: The First Avenger, has openly admitted that he can’t stand 3D. This actor is none other than Stanley Tucci, who even seems to have claimed that he finds it humiliating to work with the same, let alone enjoy working with it!

Peter Jackson once contemplated erasing his memory about The Lord of the Rings trilogy. Being an avid fan of J. R. R. Tolkien’s novels, the filmmaker crafted a cinematic world that captivated audiences globally and has since become one of the most influential franchises.

While his films have been a source of joy for fans worldwide, the filmmaker himself never had the opportunity to enjoy the trilogy like an ordinary viewer. And his desire for an unspoiled viewing experience for the film prompted Jackson to consider hypnosis to forget everything about Middle Earth.

The Lord Of The Rings trilogy films of the 2000s won fans’ hearts across the globe. While the story was already popular among readers of J.R.R. Tolkien’s fantasy adventure books, the films introduced the epic Middle Earth saga to millions more.

Saoirse Ronan has spent much of her youth racking up Oscar nominations, scoring her first bid when she was 13 and her fourth when she was 25. Take a look back at 12 of her greatest films, ranked worst to best.
Ronan’s parents were both actors and she was born in The Bronx, New York while her father was studying acting there and working odd jobs. Her parents returned to their native Ireland when Saoirse was three, where she developed her signature accent. She began acting herself at the age of 9 on a few different Irish television programs. Although she missed out on a role in the Harry Potter films, she bounced back with a key part in the 2007 Best Picture contender “Atonement,” which brought her a Best Supporting Actress Oscar nomination.

It’s a lean month for new original content on HBO/Max. November will see the return of two scripted series in Julia and Rap Sh!t, both of which are debuting their respective second seasons, but this month’s fresh highlight is likely to be Bookie, a new comedy series from the partnership of The Big Bang Theory creator Chuck Lorre, and Nick Bakay. The show tracks an LA bookie called Danny (Sebastian Maniscalco), whose business is in peril as California movies to legalize sports gambling.
Elsewhere in November, there quite a few interesting documentaries to keep an eye on, and two that jump out as “must watch”. The first is Albert Brooks: Defending My Life, which chronicles the aging comedian’s life and career. The second is the previously-released Little Richard: I Am Everything, which tries to peel back the whitewashed canon of Richard Penniman in a true...

Michael Imperioli is taking a stand against “bigots and homophobes” and doesn’t want him to watch his work. The actor’s comments come after the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that a web designer could refuse to provide services for same-sex weddings.

Imperioli would add replies to his post furthering his stance saying “hate and ignorance is not a legitimate point of view” and adding that the ruling is dehumanizing.
“America is becoming dumber by the minute,” he also replied.

Stanley Tucci Credits Felicity and Emily Blunt for Helping Him Get Through “Brutal” Cancer Treatment
Stanley Tucci is opening up about his 2017 oral cancer diagnosis and whom he thanks for helping him get through the tough times.
The Citadel actor recently told Willie Geist on Sunday Sitdown that “it was terrifying” when he first learned he had the disease.
Tucci said he and his late wife, Kate Spath-Tucci, “traveled all over the world trying to find a cure for her” before she died from breast cancer in 2009. “So when I got it, I was completely shocked,” he explained. “I was terrified, absolutely terrified.”
The Oscar-nominated actor previously said he was diagnosed when a tumor was found at the base of his tongue, which “was too big to operate” on, leaving “high-dose radiation and chemo” as his only option.
Although he was grateful that the cancer hadn’t spread, he said the “brutal” and “awful” treatments he had to undergo greatly impacted his diet.

Based on the novel by Alice Sebold, Peter Jackson's 2009 film "The Lovely Bones" is the least-acclaimed film in his career. In "The Lovely Bones," Saoirse Ronan plays a 14-year-old girl named Susie Salmon who is targeted by a creepy serial killer, George, played by Stanley Tucci. In a shocking turn of events, George kills Susie early in the film. The character remains a part of the action, however, as her ghost is able to look down from Heaven to check in on her family. In the aftermath of her death, Susie's family mourns her loss but then takes to investigating Susie's murder, finding that George likely did it. Occasionally, Susie can reach down and influence things. Late in the film, she even possesses another person.
"The Lovely Bones" was ill-advised from the start. Roger Ebert gave the film one-and-a-half stars, objecting to Jackson's irresponsible handling of its messages; it...

It’s been over a decade since I watched Peter Jackson’s The Lovely Bones and I don’t remember a heck of a lot about it… but what I do remember is the deeply unnerving performance of Stanley Tucci as serial killer George Harvey.
Based on Alice Sebold’s 2002 novel of the same name, The Lovely Bones starred Saoirse Ronan as Susie Salmon, a young girl who is murdered by a serial killer and watches over her family from the “In-Between” as they deal with her death. As great as Stanley Tucci’s performance was, it was a role he tried to get out of playing. “I tried to get out of playing the role, which is crazy because I needed a job,” Tucci explained while speaking with Entertainment Tonight. “But I was like, ‘Why do you want me?’ And [Peter Jackson] said, ‘Because you’re funny.’ And I thought, ‘Ok.

Stanley Tucci is staunchly against reprising one of his memorable roles. While promoting his new series "Citadel" in an April 18 interview with "Entertainment Tonight," Tucci revealed that he initially had serious doubts about playing serial killer George Harvey in the 2009 film "The Lovely Bones."
"[It] was horrible," Tucci said of the role. "It's a wonderful movie, but it was a tough experience. Simply because of the role." He went on to say that he even tried to back out after he'd been cast. "I asked [director] Peter Jackson why he cast me in that role," he recalled. "I tried to get out of playing the role, which is crazy because I needed a job. But I was like, 'Why do you want me?' And he said, 'Because you're funny.' And I thought, 'Ok.' Stanley Tucci recently told Entertainment Tonight that he would never play his role in “The Lovely Bones” again. The actor starred as the serial killer George Harvey in Peter Jackson’s divisive adaptation of Alice Sebold’s 2002 novel. Tucci earned an Oscar nomination in the supporting actor category for his performance, but ironically it was a role he tried to get out of before filming started.
“I would not play George Harvey again in ‘The Lovely Bones,’ which was horrible,” Tucci said. “It’s a wonderful movie, but it was a tough experience. Simply because of the role.”
“I asked Peter Jackson why he cast me in that role,” Tucci continued. “I tried to get out of playing the role, which is crazy because I needed a job. But I was like, ‘Why do you want me?’ And he said, ‘Because you’re funny.’ And I thought, ‘Okay.’ But I understand what he was saying.

Gird your loins, “Devil Wears Prada” fans. In a new interview with Entertainment Tonight, “Prada” star Stanley Tucci said he would play his character, Nigel, from the 2006 film again if he had the chance.
Tucci, whose character was one of the top advisors to Meryl Streep’s magazine editor, called making the David Frankel movie a “great experience.”
Based on the book by Lauren Weisberger and written by Aline Brosh McKenna, “The Devil Wears Prada” focuses on a legacy print publication not dissimilar to Vogue with an editor-in-chief who bears a striking resemblance to Anna Wintour. (Weisberger worked at Vogue and as an assistant to Wintour before writing the novel.) Streep, a deserved Oscar nominee for her performance, Tucci, and Emily Blunt are among the magazine’s staffers, while Anne Hathaway played the film’s lead, Andy Mills, a journalist who gets a job at the publication and gradually begins...

Stanley Tucci has reflected on his decades-long acting career and identified the one role he’d never want to reprise.
Years after the 62-year-old actor found his breakout success playing convicted murderer Richard Cross on the 1995 two-season legal drama Murder One, he landed an even darker role.
In 2009, Tucci played serial killer and rapist George Harvey in director Peter Jackson’s film adaptation of Alice Sebold’s novel The Lovely Bones, opposite Saoirse Ronan, who played Harvey’s 14-year-old victim Susie Salmon.
Speaking with Entertainment Tonight at the recent premiere of his new Prime Video action series Citadel, Tucci recalled the “horrible” character saying he “would not play George Harvey again”.
“It’s a wonderful movie, but it was a tough experience. Simply because of the role,” he explained.
“I asked Peter Jackson why he cast me in that role,” Tucci continued, revealing he had “tried to get out of playing” it.

Mark Wahlberg once found himself starring in the 2009 film The Lovely Bones. The feature dealt with some extremely dark subject matter that the actor sometimes had difficulty grappling with.
Ryan Gosling was originally supposed to be in ‘The Lovely Bones’ Mark Wahlberg | Axelle/Bauer-Griffin/FilmMagic
The Lovely Bones was the film adaptation of the 2002 novel of the same name written by Alice Sebold. It told the story of Susie Salmon, who was a young girl murdered tragically. Played by Saoirse Ronan, Susie would watch how her murder affected her loved ones from the afterlife. Mark Wahlberg and Rachel Weisz ended up playing Susie’s parents.
Before Wahlberg was cast, however, Gosling was already briefly cast as the father. But according to the film’s producer Fran Walsh, Gosling didn’t feel he was right for the part despite the studio’s insistence.

Austin Butler looked to Ryan Gosling for his physical transformation into Elvis Presley.
The “Elvis” Best Actor nominee revealed that he took note of Gosling’s prep for 2009 thriller “The Lovely Bones” and drank microwaved ice cream to embody an older, aging Presley.
“I heard that when Ryan Gosling was going to do ‘The Lovely Bones,’ had microwaved Häagen-Dazs and would drink it. So I started doing that,” Butler told Variety. “I would go get two dozen doughnuts and eat them all. I really started to pack on some pounds.”
He added, “It’s fun for a week, [but then] you feel awful about yourself.”
While Butler’s weight gain for the role help land him an Oscar nomination, Gosling’s decision to put on 60 pounds ahead of “The Lovely Bones” ended up in his firing from the film. Gosling was replaced by Mark Wahlberg.

Maybe The Whale was doomed from the start. Darren Aronofsky’s mawkish Oscar-bait drama – starring Brendan Fraser as a morbidly obese man reeling from the death of his partner – seemed to break all the rules of contemporary good taste. And not deliberately. For the role, Fraser gained a significant amount of weight, and augmented this with prosthetics; The Whale is built entirely around his startling physical transformation. His character, however, is presented as an object of great pity, a viewpoint the film seems to find profound. Accusations of fatphobia have been rampant. (Eloise Hendy neatly explains the backlash in this piece about Hollywood’s problematic fat suit resurgence.) Critically speaking, The Whale has endured a pretty rigorous harpooning.
Yet while The Whale’s Best Picture hopes may have been beached by its polarised reception, Fraser’s own reputation has emerged from the film unscathed – and arguably even bolstered. The Mummy...

Most actors and directors are involved at some point in movies they'd prefer to forget about. No one is lucky enough to make hits every time, after all. For Tim Burton, that's his 2001 remake of "Planet of the Apes." Even with his unimpressive 21st-century track record, that one sticks out as a clunker, and it always comes in near the bottom of the "Apes" series rankings.
Shortly after the movie's release, Burton said he would "rather jump out of the window" than direct an "Apes" sequel. His star, Mark Wahlberg, doesn't seem fond of the movie either, even if he phrased himself more diplomatically: "It was an amazing experience working with Tim. I think we kind of set the franchise back a little bit."
Another sign that Wahlberg doesn't have fond memories? He gave away the costume he wore in "Planet of the Apes." While speaking to /Film, writer-director Joe Cornish...

CNN has scrapped one of its “most successful” original series, Stanley Tucci: Searching for Italy, as part of the network’s larger cutbacks.
The cancellation comes a few months after the release of the second season of the Oscar-nominated actor’s food show, where he travels across Italy in search of the country’s secrets and best regional cuisine.
On Wednesday night (14 December), during an appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, Tucci informed the host that “unfortunately, CNN has cancelled all of their original programming”.
“So hopefully we’ll end up on another streamer, network, we don’t know,” The Lovely Bones star said. “But yes, I have plans to do season three and more.”
In October, CNN CEO Chris Licht said in a statement that they would be pulling back on original programming produced by outside production companies. A decision he said was “based, in large part,...

There is a lot of advice given to those who are going through the loss of a loved one, but the truth is that there is no formula, each person responds to grief differently. Now, in times of post-pandemic, it is more than necessary to reflect on this subject, both to deal with death and to help those who are bereaved.

Peter Jackson's 1992 film "Braindead," released in North America as "Dead Alive," while certainly an object of intimidation for gore-averse cineastes, remains, at its heart, a comedy film. Jackson has spoken in the past about how "Dead Alive" was not inspired so much by raw, hard-edged gore films like "Cannibal Holocaust," and more by the whimsical violence of "Monty Python and the Holy Grail." A notable scene in the 1974 comedy classic features a bridge sentry, the Black Knight (John Cleese), getting into a swordfight with King Arthur (Graham Chapman). Over the course of the fight, his extremities are sliced off one by one, only to return to battle unfazed. While blood spurts copiously from each severed limb, the Black Knight doesn't seem to feel any pain.
When he is reduced to a mere head and torso, only then will he admit that his swordfight will now have to be declared a draw.

The food-loving actor and author on playing an evil genius in Inside Man, the brilliance of Whitney Houston and running out of space for booze
The actor Stanley Tucci, 61, was born in Westchester, New York, to parents of Italian descent. His debut film role was in John Huston’s Prizzi’s Honor (1985). He later starred in The Devil Wears Prada, The Lovely Bones, Spotlight and The Hunger Games and has directed five films, including cult comedy Big Night. Tucci has also written two cookbooks and food memoir Taste and hosted the Emmy-winning culinary travel series Stanley Tucci: Searching for Italy. He now stars in new BBC One drama Inside Man, written by Steven Moffat.
Were you a fan of Steven Moffat’s writing before signing up for Inside Man?
Very much. I adored Sherlock. Steven has a very dark sense of humour, as do I, so I was excited to read the Inside Man scripts.

Orson (Jon Hamm) is an upwardly mobile corporate drone who suffers from Main Character Syndrome in a Kafkaesque work environment, his arrogance so vigorously rubbing against his anonymity that the friction created between those two forces is almost powerful enough to sustain the ultra-droll office satire that “Corner Office” constructs around it. Adapted from Jonas Karlsson’s lightly surreal (but extremely Scandinavian) novella, “The Room,” Joachim Back’s feature-length debut promotes a typical skewering of corporate drudgery with the hint of a curious new twist.
Whereas stories about paper-pushing worker drones have been done to death — to the point that Back’s film can seem perversely familiar when it isn’t futzing with the blueprints of reality — the human cog at the center...

Michael Cudlitz and Jake Abel and have signed on to star alongside Zhang Hanyu and Vivienne Tien (Be Yourself) in Unspoken, a dramatic feature from writer-director Daming Chen that is now in production.
Unspoken tells the story of Xu (Zhang), an estranged father separated from his deaf daughter and her new life at an American university, whose murder reunites them in a way neither could have foreseen. The tragedy pierces Xu with grief and guilt that he couldn’t be present to protect his child. An ex-cop himself, he becomes convinced the local authorities are pursuing the wrong suspect – and that racism is compromising the investigation.
With a young Chinese translator in tow (Tien), who is navigating her own challenging path as a young immigrant, Xu sets out to learn what really happened to his daughter.

When you’re a streaming service, there’s only one way to celebrate the New Year. And that’s by IP mining to bring back a franchise that had no business in coming back!
With its list of new releases for January 2022, Hulu is raiding CBS’s closet and premiering How I Met Your Father, a continuation of the sitcom How I Met Your Mother. Complaints about unnecessary rebooting aside, perhaps its worth giving the Hillary Duff starring series a chance. If nothing else, telling a story about 2022 from a future perspective might play well.
Aside from Himyf, there aren’t any other Hulu original series to speak of. Instead, Hulu is opting to once again beef up its film library. January 1 sees the arrival of Master and Commander, Seven, and a whole bunch of Star Treks. Hulu will also be the streaming home of some recently released film Indies,...

Alice Sebold has apologized to Anthony Broadwater after he was wrongfully convicted of raping her in 1981. The Lovely Bones author, who wrote about her sexual assault in the book Lucky, issued a public statement to Medium on Tuesday, Nov. 30, a week after a New York State Supreme Court Justice exonerated the 61-year-old. Broadwater served 16 years in prison and was released in 1998. Following his release, he was placed on New York's sex offender registry. "First, I want to say that I am truly sorry to Anthony Broadwater and I deeply regret what you have been through," she wrote. "I am sorry most of all for the fact that the life you could have led was unjustly robbed from...

Alice Sebold, the author of bestselling book “The Lovely Bones” and memoir “Lucky,” has apologized to Anthony Broadwater, the man she misidentified as her rapist 40 years ago.
In a Medium post, she wrote, “First, I want to say that I am truly sorry to Anthony Broadwater and I deeply regret what you have been through. I am sorry most of all for the fact that the life you could have led was unjustly robbed from you, and I know that no apology can change what happened to you and never will.”
Broadwater was exonerated of his rape conviction last week after an executive producer on the movie adaptation of “Lucky” left the project when he began to raise concerns about the events surrounding the trial.
Sebold wrote that “As a traumatized 18-year-old rape victim, I chose to put my faith in the American legal system. My goal in 1982 was justice — not to perpetuate injustice.
