"Friday Night Lights" holds a unique spot in America's collective pop cultural memory. Those who haven't seen the show (which is based loosely on H.G. Bissinger's book of the same name) typically don't seem to be in a hurry to watch it, even though the drama is consistently included in rankings of the best TV shows of all time. It doesn't matter that "Friday Night Lights" won 3 Emmys, that it features great performances from stars like Connie Britton, Jesse Plemons, and Michael B. Jordan, or that it includes an incredible episode written by the future creator of "Interview with the Vampire." It is, to many of the people who haven't seen it, just a show about football.
Except it's not. Fans of the Texas-set show will tell you that though the sport is technically at the center of the series, it's about pretty much everything but football, including but not limited to: parenting,...

Family Guy may not be returning to Fox until 2025, but feening fans will still get their fix of the Griffins later this year with a pair of holiday specials on Hulu.
Streaming on Monday, Oct. 14, the Halloween special finds Peter and the gang attempting to defeat the reigning champion of Quahog’s annual pumpkin-carving contest “by any means necessary.” Oh, and that aforementioned champ is being voiced by star-of-all-things Glen Powell. No big deal.

Billy Bob Thornton has always blended his career with film and television roles. His most recent starring role was on the Amazon legal drama “Goliath,” for which he Thornton won the Golden Globe as Best TV Drama Actor.
Although Thornton’s television work has been limited, he is no stranger to TV awards, having won another Golden Globe for his work in FX’s limited series “Fargo,” as well as an Emmy nom and a nomination from the Screen Actors Guild.
Still, his great fame has been his work in films, having won an Academy Award for his screenplay for 1996’s “Sling Blade,” as well as Oscar nominations for his performances in both “Sling Blade” and 1998’s “A Simple Plan.” In addition to his two Golden Globes for television, he has been nominated for four additional Golden Globes, as well as four Screen Actors Guild Awards, including his win for “Fargo.

During its San Diego Comic-Con panel Friday, The Walking Dead: Dead City dropped a sneak peek at Season 2. Suffice it to say that “Bad Negan” is in the house — and he’s not alone, either. He has in hand Lucille, aka the barbed-wire-covered baseball bat that he named after his late wife. (Technically, this would have to be Lucille 2.0, since he broke and cremated the first one back in Season 10 of the mothership.)

“Accepting death isn’t surrender. Flowers are only flowers because they fall.”
This is Toda Mariko in the penultimate episode of Shōgun, FX’s epic adaptation of James Clavell’s novel about a civil war in feudal Japan. Mariko says this because (spoiler alert) she knows that she is the flower who is about to fall, not only accepting her impending demise, but welcoming it.

Spoiler Alert! This post contains details from the Season 6 finale of The CW’s All American and the Season 3 premiere of All American: Homecoming.
There are some shakeups happening in the All American universe.
Season 6 of the flagship series ended Monday night with the departure of its star Daniel Ezra, who has led the show as Spencer James for six seasons. With Ezra gone, the show will be taking a new direction that returns to its high school roots, focusing on telling the stories of some newly introduced younger characters.
That doesn’t necessarily mean that the entire original cast is taking a backseat. As the show is making this transition, showrunner Nkechi Okoro Carroll recognizes “you don’t want to do a clean sweep.”
With Jordan (Michael Evans Behling) taking a coaching position at South Crenshaw and Laura gifting her house to he and Layla (Greta Onieogou), it’s...

Some TV shows start well, finish well, and maintain that quality every season in between — Breaking Bad, The Wire, and Veep come to mind. Other shows, unfortunately, are plagued by seasons that pale in comparison to others — and surprisingly enough, these disappointing chapters don’t always come at the end of those shows’ runs. From Game of Thrones’ frustrating finale to Parks and Recreation’s inauspicious start to Community’s “gas leak” year, here are the shows with seasons in need of a do-over. Game of Thrones Season 8 “Dany kind of forgot about the Iron Fleet,” a hand-waving quote from showrunner David Benioff, has become a meme emblematic of how rushed and illogical this hit drama’s final season was. Characters made head-scratching decisions, series-long conflicts ended anticlimactically, and armies and navies seemed to teleport between locations. Daenerys (Emilia Clarke), Cersei (Lena Headey), and even the White Walkers deserved better.

Brian Grazer and Ron Howard are exploring a sale of their Imagine Entertainment, according to the Wall Street Journal.
Imagine has reportedly hired investment bank Jp Morgan to strategise. According to other reports, Imagine made the move after receiving acquisition or merger offers.
Imagine representatives could not immediately be reached for comment.
In 2016 Imagine attracted a reported investment of $100m from US merchant bank The Raine Group. In 2022 the company was involved in talks with UK investment firm Centricus Asset Management about what was reported at the time as a $700m deal, though the talks came to nothing after six months of negotiation.

When it came time to name their new company, Alison Rou and Sarah Tallman looked to the citrus family.
It became an obvious choice considering their respective histories. Rou, a power publicist who specialized in representing showrunners and producers, hails from a line of citrus growers and has a home surrounded by orange groves in Ojai, California. Tallman, a veteran of the beauty space with tenures at Estee Lauder and Saie, went to school in Florida and once ran a store in New York City called Grove.
Cara Cara LA was born in November 2023, launched with a focus on gift sets and sustainable dried flowers. With Rou’s industry experience, Hollywood came calling and they were off and running with talent gifting and local pop-ups. There is a unique charm and allure to college football that you just don’t get from watching the NFL. Yes, people still bet on college football lines but there isn’t the same level of pressure or financial burden on college sports which just makes it that little bit purer and more wholesome.
As does the fact that the youngsters playing the game aren’t weighed down by years of expectations. Instead they’re eagerly chasing their dreams and enjoying every minute of playing a sport that they love.
It’s no wonder then, that the world of college football has spawned so many wholesome and engaging movies and TV series. Here are a few that we think are worthy of your time…

Shocking news from the world of All American today.
Deadline reported today that star Daniel Ezra will not be returning as a series regular for the show's upcoming seventh season.
Ezra has portrayed Spencer James on every episode of the acclaimed football drama.
Though Ezra has left the door open to returning as a guest star, his statement to Deadline makes it clear that he feels his time on the show has mostly come to an end.
“After making the difficult decision to leave All American, my sole focus became completing the journey of the most life-affirming character I’ve ever played in the manner he deserves," Ezra said today.

Jesse Plemons is very aware that much of the world thinks he’s Matt Damon.
Plemons admitted during a recent appearance on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” that he has actually had to turn away Damon fans who refuse to believe he is in fact a different actor. This is more than just a case of mistaken identity: It’s fully “Bourne Identity” 2.0.
During the late night talk show, Kimmel’s team locked Plemons in a jail cell to forbid Matt Damon, Kimmel’s gag nemesis, from being a guest.
“I told you, I’m not Matt Damon,” Plemons pleads in the clip before joining Kimmel onstage.
The “Fargo” alum and “Kinds of Kindness” actor admitted that his likeness to Damon has “been haunting” his career.

Starting his career at age 10, then rising to prominence at 18 in the NBC television drama “Friday Night Lights,” Jesse Plemons has had the acting bug for as long as he can remember. His roles in “Breaking Bad” and, most recently, Martin Scorsese’s epic western “Killers of the Flower Moon” are defined by an undercurrent of calm that draws viewers in, giving them a sense of confidence but also unease. It seems to be a throughline with all his characters, though, in a recent interview with the Los Angeles Times, Plemons said this wasn’t intentional.
“It’s just a survival technique,” he said of not branding himself in any way. “I’ve been doing it for so long that it almost doesn’t benefit to look too far ahead. And that’s kind of worked for me so far … I’m constantly just looking at this next thing and...

Criminal Minds: Evolution Season 2 debuts on Paramount+ on June 6th.
After spending 15 seasons airing weekly on CBS, Criminal Minds restructured its series by debuting Criminal Minds: Evolution. The ten-episode season debuted on Paramount+ with rave reviews, earning a second season. Executive Producer Erica Messer’s strategy to bring a more linear story to the series proved fruitful for the success of season one.
After a brief two-year hiatus, the new reincarnation of Criminal Minds with Evolution had me excited to see what they could do with the series being on a streamer vs. cable TV. I found myself attached to the series like I hadn’t in a long time, as season 1 had you on the edge of your seat with Elias Voit and the mystery of his character running rampant. Season 2 picks up right where they left off with two incredible episodes that see Zach Gilford continue to deliver a knockout performance as Voit.

Chilling performances in Breaking Bad, Civil War and now Yorgos Lanthimos’ Kinds of Kindness have made the actor cinema’s go-to wrong ‘un – but the roles he plays can be hard to shake off
Jesse Plemons is a successful young actor, instinctive and natural, who likes to inhabit every role he takes on. He can play lead or support; light comedy or dark drama; the cornfed all-American or his curdled, troubled cousin. The 36-year-old can handle any part, it seems, except that of Jesse Plemons, a successful young actor with a new film to promote. Now, all at once, he is ill at ease. He regards the hotel couch as though it’s a dentist’s chair. “These are two completely different skills,” he confides. “Acting, I mean, and whatever we’re doing right now.”

Exclusive: Rolin Jones, developer, executive producer and showrunner of Anne Rice’s Interview with the Vampire, has signed a new multi-year overall with AMC Studios, which is behind the gothic horror drama. This is an encouraging sign for the future of the series, which is currently airing its second season on AMC and AMC+.
As the anchor of AMC’s Anne Rice Immortal Universe with 98% Rotten Tomatoes rating for each of its two seasons to date and the biggest non-Walking Dead universe series in viewership and acquisition on AMC+ in the last year, Interview with the Vampire probably doesn’t need to worry too much about a Season 3 renewal.
Dan McDermott, President of Entertainment and AMC Studios, AMC Networks; and Ben Davis, EVP of scripted programming, AMC Networks and AMC Studios, gave Season 2 high marks in confirming Jones’ new pact.

David Nevins has stepped down as CEO of North Road Co., the media venture launched in 2022 by Peter Chernin with backing from Providence Equity and other private equity partners.
Nevins formally joined North Road Co. company last July. The company’s initial focus has been on acquiring distinctive production banners in recent months with the goal of building a network of content businesses active in territories around the world. Last June it acquired Turkey’s Karga Seven Pictures. It also owns Red Arrow Pictures, the busy unscripted shop Kinetic Content and New York-based Words + Pictures.
Nevins has a deep background in scripted TV production from his long tenures at NBC, Fox Broadcasting, Imagine Entertainment and his 12-year run overseeing Showtime. The split is said to be amicable as it became clear that North Road’s focus and business ambitions wasn’t a fit for Nevins at this stage of his career.

I’ve been on a bit of a Larry Fessenden kick lately either intentionally or by circumstance. I really wanted to talk about the movie Late Phases which has a cameo from the man and his name in the produced by section. This led to one of our favorites in Danielle Harris wishing that more people knew about a movie she did called Stake Land. While this had a six degrees of separation angle attached to it with Late Phases star Nick Damichi also starring and writing Stake Land, it also brought back Fessenden in his comfortable producer role, oh and another cameo. We’ve gone down another rabbit hole and heard from the man himself that The Last Winter (watch it Here) is a movie of his that he wishes had been seen by more people. This movie see’s Larry in not only his producing and cameo roles...

Being an actor means losing out on many, many roles, especially when you are just starting out. Glen Powell knows this agonizing truth all too well. The actor was initially known for his role in Scream Queens (2015-2016), where he played Chad Radwell. However, he gained worldwide fame and recognition only after playing Hangman in Top Gun: Maverick (2022). He then went on to star in his own rom-com, Anyone but You (2023) opposite the gorgeous Sydney Sweeney.

Sony Pictures Television is shuttering its TriStar TV banner.
Sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that TriStar TV exec vp Jennifer Turner and senior vp development Nicole Norwood are leaving as the division is being folded into the larger Sony TV fold. No additional layoffs are expected to come as part of the move.
Reps for Sony declined comment.
The decision to absorb TriStar TV into the larger Sony Pictures Television fold comes at a time of industry-wide consolidation as streamers, networks and studios alike right-size their programming and staffing needs in an era of belt-tightening following the end of the Peak TV phenomenon.
TriStar TV’s mission was to champion diverse, authentic characters and underrepresented voices. Those values have since been incorporated into the larger studio, overseen by Katherine Pope, to whom Turner reported. Sony Pictures Television Studios’ drama department will now oversee the development of current TriStar TV projects.

It’s been a couple of months since CBS dropped a bombshell saying So Help Me Todd will not be back to the screens with its third season, stepping down for another potentially big series to get its time slot, and fans’ outrage hasn't quietened down to this day.
Started as a mere discussion where So Help Me Todd lovers were sharing their thoughts about possible reasons for such a decision, the whole fuss later turned into a big campaign calling out to the network and somehow forcing them to bring the show back by creating a petition that so far has garnered an impressive amount of supporters.
Still, CBS has been quite indifferent to fans’ demands and the chances for So Help Me Todd to be brought back to the screens aren’t so high, but the rioting activists surely had a pretty clear vision of how things would...

Sean Diddy Combs was at the center of a movie based on his protege Biggie Smalls called Notorious. The feature had Antwone Fisher star Derek Luke portray the music mogul. But initially, Luke declined to play the part.
Derek Luke felt there would be too much heat on him if he played Diddy Derek Luke | Axelle/Bauer-Griffin/FilmMagic
Luke had some strong reservations against playing Diddy in Notorious. The biopic would follow Bad Boys artist B.I.G. from childhood and on to his ascent to rap superstardom. Luke would become aware of the project way before the film was fully realized. But at the time, Luke was given very little details about what to expect from the feature.
“One of Puff’s guards sent word that they wanted to holla and I was like, ‘Word, okay.’ So I met him, greeted him, nothing to it,” Luke said in an interview with The Breakfast Club.

“I felt good about the first night. I was singing Kelly Clarkson. I’m singing her song in close to her key and it was ‘Wizard of Oz Night’ and I didn’t necessarily pick that song,” reveals Scott Porter while reflecting on his time as Gumball on “The Masked Singer.” “During dress rehearsal that night, I thought I had it all together and I had a panic attack.” Watch our full video interview above.
Despite a rocky start that landed him in a smackdown, Scott was able to survive all the way to the Season 11 finale, where he finished runner-up to Vanessa Hudgens as Goldfish. Although Vanessa had no clue she was competing with her “Bandslam” co-star, Scott recognized her voice instantly.

The Season 11 finale took place on “The Masked Singer” Wednesday, May 22. After singing their hearts out for panelists Robin Thicke, Jenny McCarthy Wahlberg, Ken Jeong and Rita Ora, Goldfish and Gumball stood by side as host Nick Cannon announced Goldfish was the winner. Before Goldfish revealed herself, the Gumball had to take it off and turned out to be award-winning actor Scott Porter.
When Nick asked Scott, “Who knew you could do what you do?” the actor replied, “Not even me until maybe tonight. I don’t have any legitimate training. I started singing on street corners in Orlando, Florida when I was going to high school. I auditioned for two straight years for Disney and couldn’t book a role. I didn’t know I could do this until tonight, but I’m so glad I did.”

Jesse Plemons has become an undisputed auteur’s favorite. The 36-year-old star’s beguiling unshowiness onscreen has landed him memorable parts in films from Paul Thomas Anderson (The Master), Steven Spielberg (Bridge of Spies, The Post), Martin Scorsese (The Irishman, Killers of the Flower Moon), Charlie Kaufman (I’m Thinking of Ending Things), Adam McKay (Vice) and Jane Campion (The Power of the Dog), among so many others. Arguably even more viewers know him from his indelible work on the small screen, which began with his breakthrough role on NBC’s Friday Night Lights, continued through AMC’s landmark hit series Breaking Bad and culminated with an Emmy nomination for FX’s Fargo, where he met his wife, actress and co-star Kirsten Dunst.
Plemons touched down for the Cannes Film Festival on Friday for the world premiere of Yorgos Lanthimos’ Kinds of Kindness, the acclaimed Greek director’s follow-up to his multi-Oscar-winning period fantasy Poor Things.

The film has begun principal photography and the duo are hopeful it will premiere at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival. This would be the sixth Polish Brothers film to premiere at the festival.
On There There, each of the twin brothers will write and direct one half of the movie without the other knowing anything about the other, resulting in two separate storylines that will be interwoven into a single feature-length film. This approach will enable each brother to explore the nature of the twin relationship from their own unique perspective without being influenced or constrained by the other’s vision.

With season finale time right around the corner and many of our favorite series coming to a close, it's time to be brutally honest.
The shortened seasons felt the full plight of the dual strikes. And you know what? It sucked.
Yes, the overall experience of having a shortened season has been a misfortune to diehard TV Fanatics.
But also, the quality of the seasons delivered to us has generally been any combination of disappointing, boring, unhinged, or perfunctory.
It's an unusual situation when we craved the return of our favorite series for so long but quickly realized they should've forgone a rush job to salvage the television season and given themselves time to cook up better, stronger full seasons.
At the risk of sounding ungrateful, this shortened season could've been an email for some series.
It's not the first time strikes have severely hampered the quality of an otherwise excellent series.

So Help Me Todd’s cancellation news has the whole fan community raging over the unfair decision, but this time things may have gone a bit further than usual.
