In the end, Ramsay Bolton received the fate he truly deserved, but the actor who brought this monstrous character to life on screen, Iwan Rheon, might have preferred facing dragons over the hounds that met him on screen.

Back in 1994, writer/director Roland Emmerich and co-writer Dean Devlin brought us the sci-fi adventure film Stargate, a box office hit that launched a franchise, being followed by multiple TV shows, books, comic books, video games, and direct-to-video features. The most popular of those follow-ups was the TV series Stargate Sg-1, which ran for ten seasons and then wrapped up with the aforementioned Dtv movies. It’s been a while since we got any new Stargate to watch, though – and not for lack of trying. Back in 2014, it was announced that Emmerich and Devlin would be rebooting the franchise with a new trilogy of films, starting the story over again from the beginning and tell it to its completion. Then developed the idea for a couple of years, but then it all fell apart. Last year, we learned that Stargate is one of the properties Amazon is looking to revive now that they required MGM,...

It’s safe to say that Roland Emmerich and James Cameron aren’t likely to collaborate anytime soon.
During a conversation between filmmakers Emmerich and Antoine Fuqua at San Diego Comic-Con, director Louis Leterrier appeared via video to ask Emmerich about the long-gestating remake of the 1966 film Fantastic Voyage that Cameron has been trying to get off the ground. Leterrier mentioned that he would still love to get to direct the film and asked Emmerich about his experience years ago with the project.
“James Cameron is very overbearing, and so I, at one point, just gave up,” Emmerich replied during Collider’s Directors on Directing event, leading to laughter from the audience. “Because it’s like, ‘Is it your movie or my movie?'”
The Independence Day filmmaker continued, “We were in very beginning stages. Because I said, ‘Gosh, why is he so overbearing?’ I have to say, I do my stuff,...

Roland Emmerich and Antoine Fuqua may have each helmed a dueling White House invasion movie in 2013, but it was all love between them at San Diego Comic-Con on Friday.
Collider brought two of the most successful action directors of all time together in Hall H to discuss their work in a panel moderated by Steven Weintraub.
“Right before shooting, maybe a month before, I learned he was shooting another one that was called ‘Olympus Has Fallen,'” Emmerich said — revealing he actually watched Fuqua’s film on a plane. “I thought, this is such a better title than ‘White House Down.'”
Fuqua, who also confirmed he’s seen Emmerich’s film, added, “I figured there’s room for those stories. Obviously, it’s two different directors, two different visions on that.” He said the comparisons only fueled the fire inside to step his own game up, continuing, “When you...

Short answer: No, Peacock does not offer a free trial currently. However, with plans starting at $7.99 per month it’s still one of the best bargains in streaming. Sign Up $7.99+ / month peacocktv.com
“Free is the right price,” or so the old cliche goes. Streaming free trials are a great way to get to know a platform’s library, but customers are likely pretty familiar with Peacock’s catalog already. The NBCUniversal streaming service is home to old favorites from primetime NBC like “The Office,” “Community,” “Scrubs,” and many more, as well as originals like “Five Nights at Freddy's” and “Those About to Die,” and Universal movies spanning the spectrum from “Monkey Man” to “Kung Fu Panda 4.”

“Those About to Die,” Peacock’s buzzy new historical epic, brought some gladiator flare to San Diego Comic-Con with a star-studded panel.
Executive producer and director Roland Emmerich was flanked by stars Iwan Rheon, Sara Martins, Moe Hashim, Jojo Macari, Dimitri Leonidas and Gabriella Pession as they provided an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the making of the drama.
Emmerich, best known for his work on larger-than-life films like “Independence Day” and “The Patriot,” explained why the series was the right move for him in a brand new featurette. “I was always fascinated by the Roman empire, and I always wanted to do something with sports. So this was a dream to tell this story,” he said.
The series is set in the corrupt world of the spectacle-driven gladiatorial competition, exploring a side of ancient Rome never before told and unveiling the dirty business of giving the mob the blood and sport they crave.

As Those About to Die brings swords and sandals back to the screen, the ‘Colosseum consultant’ who advises all the epic productions about accuracy tells us why he is ‘paid to be ignored’
One of the many things Alexander Mariotti wants you to know about Those About to Die, the new Amazon Prime show set in ancient Rome, is that gladiators rarely actually died in colosseum combat. Although the phrase “Kill or be killed” is a powerful marketing tool, real gladiators tended to have long, healthy careers. “But let’s be honest,” says Mariotti, “if you had a show coming out tomorrow called Those Who Rarely Die, you’d say, ‘That’s a crap show. I don’t want to watch that. I want to watch something where someone might die.’”

Lots of things make Ridley Scott grumpy. Critics of "Blade Runner" make him grumpy. All of those millennials not watching "The Last Duel" make him grumpy. The idea of making "wizard films" for Disney makes him grumpy. The world seems like one big inconvenience to the octogenarian, to the extent that it's not really accurate to say these things make him grumpy. Much like Mark Ruffalo's Bruce Banner in "The Avengers," the secret to Scott's remarkably durable crotchetiness is that he's always grumpy.
None of this, of course, takes away from the man's equally remarkable filmography. While there are several dubious entries on that list, anyone who made "Blade Runner" is, in my opinion, unimpeachably brilliant. Still, I implore you to take a quick peek at Scott's Wikipedia page and marvel at the sheer level of irascibility emanating from his photo in what is surely the most accurate visual...

Have you ever wondered what it was like back in ancient Rome? The new Peacock series “Those About to Die” takes us back over 2,000 years to experience all the excitement of the Roman Empire. At the center of the action is a famous charioteer named Scorpus, played by actor Dimitri Leonidas.
Scorpus was a real guy who lived around 2000 years ago. He was like a superstar athlete – one of the best chariot racers of all time. The show says he won over 90 races, which is crazy impressive. But get this – historians say the real Scorpus actually won a mind-blowing 2,048 races! Can you believe that? Dude must have been one skilled driver.
While the show takes some creative freedoms, it really captures how famous guys like Scorpus would’ve been back then. Chariot racing was one of the most popular sports in Rome. Thousands of people would pack the Circus Maximus...

Iwan Rheon, known for playing the super scary Ramsay Bolton on Game of Thrones, is getting lots of praise for his new character Tenax on the Peacock show Those About to Die. Critics say this might be Rheon’s best role yet, showing a more layered bad guy.
Tenax, who owns a tavern in Ancient Rome, is very different than Ramsay. While both want power, Tenax seems more calculating. He can show mercy and think before acting, unlike the crazy Ramsay. This lets Rheon flex his acting muscles more.
In an interview with Variety, Rheon even compared the two dudes. He thinks Tenax would win in a fight against Ramsay! Tenax stays cool-headed, where Ramsay would just blow it. Rheon added Ramsay is “just an idiot” who’s all psychopath, no feelings. But Tenax has empathy, even if he doesn’t openly show it.

In Those About to Die, most of the characters were reckless and impulsive, but being a man who could hide his real intentions and go the distance was a rarity. Tenax was one of those people who wanted to be in power, but he knew that he would have to play each and every move very carefully because the chances of falling off the cliff were way too high. I don’t believe that Tenax, from the beginning of Those About to Die, wanted to kill Titus or had any plans to become a kingmaker. He solely wanted to open his own faction, and he knew that he needed someone with authority to give him permission to do so. He had the money, and he had the best chariot driver, i.e., Scorpus, on his side, but still he needed the royal seal and sign.

Anthony Hopkins’ appearance is both the biggest gimmick and selling point of Peacock’s latest sword and sandal extravaganza, Those About to Die. It is no Game of Thrones, but it doesn’t aspire to be either. Sadly, it’s neither prestige nor pulp, thanks to a really clunky storyline. However, it’s still pretty watchable if you’re into blood, gore, violence, and horse racing and can do without much of a cohesive story. The ending of Those About to Die is certainly a talking point, which we’re going to discuss in this article.

Domitian was a deceitful and treacherous man, and his demeanor bore a lot of resemblance to characters like Larys Clubfoot from House of the Dragon. Generally, when a person is that wicked, he has the audacity to carry out his plans and do the needful. But in Those About to Die, we saw that Domitian wanted everything, but he didn’t want to take any sort of risk. At the first sign of danger, the man backed out, and he made it very clear to his co-conspirators that his name, his misdeeds, and his treachery should never come to light. The character of Domitian is based on the real-life king of Rome, who succeeded in gaining the throne after the death of his brother Titus. King Vespasian had two sons, Titus and Domitian, and though the makers of Those About to Die have taken a lot of creative liberties and...

Anthony Hopkins’ latest indie film “Eyes in the Trees” has found itself at the center of a FBI complaint.
Producer Daemon Hillin first told Deadline that he is being extorted over 18 minutes of unedited footage from the feature that was allegedly obtained through hacking. The footage includes all of Hopkins’ scenes that were filmed in Los Angeles in 2023; the movie received a SAG-AFTRA interim agreement waiver to remain in production. Hillin said a “Korean Zombie address” has sent him “disturbing and very detailed emails.”
The emails, obtained by IndieWire, demand $200,000 in cryptocurrency. Hillin says he’s not paying.
One email reads, in part: “We will also send clips of your project to potential major buyers in the market . we will email bomb them through filters with your content i.e. Netflix, Amazon, peacock, sony, AMC, Lionsgate, Blumhouse. We have emails to all the strategic people in charge of content acquisitions in those companies.

Soon, customers will have to pay at least $15.49 per month if they want to stream Netflix without ads.
Well, it’s official. As has been telegraphed by the company for months, Netflix warned domestic customers on Thursday that it would be discontinuing the ad-free Basic plan for customers in the United States in the near future. The move was announced as part of the company’s second-quarter 2024 earnings report and presumably is being done to drum up even more customers for its ad-supported tier. Viewers will either have to choose another Netflix plan or allow their subscription to expire. So, if you are leaning toward the latter option, I’ll lay out which streamers offer ad-free plans for less than what you’ll have to pay to stay ad-free on Netflix!

Since the time Vespasian was alive, we saw in Those About to Die that Domitian did everything in his power to be the heir to the throne. He knew that his brother somewhere had the edge, and possibly that’s why he played all sorts of petty games to undermine his authority and make him look like an incompetent leader in front of their father. It was Domitian who stopped the food supply from reaching Rome, and at that time, his efforts paid off, as his father did get angry at Titus. But that was not enough, and finally, Titus was chosen as the heir to the throne. There was a reason why Vespasian did that: Titus was already an accomplished fighter and politician before the death of his father, so it wasn’t a very difficult choice for Vespasian to make. And moreover, at least in the series, I...

Every streamer gets the “Game of Thrones” copycat it deserves. HBO, the original house of the dragons, can lay claim to an official prequel series that’s slavishly devoted to its predecessor. Prime Video, which would be the Scrooge McDuck of streaming if not for Apple TV+, can spend all of McBezos’ money rebooting “The Lord of the Rings,” yet still end up with a naggingly laborious “Rings of Power.” Netflix, always happier to buy talent than develop good ideas, hired “Game of Thrones” showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Rome is starving. Early into Those About to Die, as the Roman Empire reels from civil war and rebellion in Judea, running its grain stores scarce, the people’s hunger for food swells into an appetite for revolt. Rome’s rulers turn to entertainment to pacify their citizens, eventually enlisting Tenax (Iwan Rheon), the rare self-made man who’s managed to claw his way toward the city’s elite, to orchestrate arena spectacles for the public. “I grew up in those stinking stands. I know what the mob wants to see,” Tenax tells his crew toward the end of the show’s first season. “Remember: Enough is good. More is better. Too much is perfect.”

Nearly a quarter of a century ago, Ridley Scott’s “Gladiator” took the swords-and-sandals action of previous genre-definers “Spartacus” and “Clash of the Titans” and gave it new life, paving the way for further success in Zach Snyder’s 2007 outing “300” and that forgettable 2016 remake of “Ben-Hur.” It’s a tricky world to adapt, extending beyond the over-the-top energy of brutal combat and chariot races and into the realms of a bygone era’s political, interpersonal, and economics.

Those About to Die is inspired by a book written by Daniel P. Mannix, and it tells the tale of the Flavian dynasty, the conflicts that came their way, and the internal politics that plagued the regime from within. It makes us privy to the lethal games that the kings organized for the purpose of entertainment and the kind of bloodshed that happened during them. Though the games were said to be for entertainment purposes, society took them very seriously, probably because everybody wanted to be associated with them in some capacity. So, let’s find out what happened in Those About to Die‘s ending and if the sons of Vespasian were able to carry on the legacy of their father.

The public interest in ancient Rome and its way of life, ranging from the cold, cunning politics to the blood-thirsty sports and entertainment, had greatly piqued after the release of Ridley Scott’s Gladiator back in 2000. A grand tale set in the same era has been released on Peacock, as Daniel Mannix’s historical novel Those About to Die, which inspired Scott’s film, is adapted into a ten-part epic series by the same name. Set in the turbulent times of Emperor Vespasian’s final few years, the show presents the many facets of society at the time, including the various ploys that were commonly made out of a sheer thirst for power. While telling a historical epic convincingly is an extremely challenging task, Those About to Die does a solid job in its first season, delivering a rather enjoyable watch, especially for those keeping an interest in history.

Perched atop the imperial throne in first-century Rome, Emperor Vespasian envisioned a spectacle to satisfy the masses. He would construct an arena for gladiatorial combat and wild beast executions, drawing crowds with the spoils of war—men and beasts alike—forced to fight to the death for entertainment. Led by film icon Anthony Hopkins, Those About to Die brings this blood-soaked world to vivid life.
We’re transported back two thousand years, where social upheaval brews beneath ornate palaces and citizens crave carnage above all else. Not all approve of the Emperor’s plan, however; the city’s elite already control the lucrative sports domain.
Chief among these powerbrokers is Tenax, a clever commoner played by Iwan Rheon who clawed his way to the top of Rome’s gambling circuit. But Tenax’ sights are set higher still, and his schemes place him at odds with those presiding over the old ways.

It’s opening day of the Flavian Amphitheatre—which we now call the Roman Colosseum—and a ruler turns to the architect of the grisly festivities (giant crocodiles are somehow involved) to mutter, “Your taste in entertainment never ceases to appall.” Funny, I was just saying the same thing to myself, after having sat through nearly 10 hours of over-the-top back-stabbing, front-stabbing, and assorted other types of murder and mayhem from the gutters to the palaces of debauched Ancient Rome. The credits for Peacock’s Those About to Die, exposing a naked desire for comparison with Game of Thrones-style with gushers of blood cascading through a scale model of the fabled capital, set the tone for a lurid melodrama of pageantry and perversity. A throwback to pulp entertainment from a simpler time, though more savage in its leering approach to graphic carnage, this historical—or should I say hysterical—drama...
