The "Transformers" movies took a pretty healthy break after the release of 2018's "Bumblebee," even if that wasn't originally the plan that Paramount Pictures had in mind. Regardless, thanks to the pandemic, that's exactly what happened. But with the release of "Transformers: Rise of the Beasts" in 2023, the franchise is back with much more to come. Not only are we poised for more live-action movies but we're also getting a feature-length, theatrically-released animated film in the form of "Transformers One."
While the robots in disguise started out as toys, it was in no small part thanks to the '80s animated series, as well as 1986's "Transformers: The Movie" that helped make the Autobots and Decepticons staples of pop culture. So bringing it back around to animation feels like a full-circle moment, and one that may well excite fans who checked out during Michael Bay's later live-action entries. So...

While family audiences finally have a little more variety at cinemas by way of Paw Patrol: The Movie and Ainbo: Amazon Princess, neither new release were a match for Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and Free Guy at the box office last weekend.
Paramount’s Paw Patrol: The Movie opened at no. 3, ringing up $235,097 from 173 screens. Paid previews on the title have been running since August 21, so in total the animated feature is on $956,192.
The result has helped the film cross $US100 million ($137.8 million) worldwide, following openings in territories such as the UK August 9 and North America August 22, where it was simultaneously released on Paramount+.
Considering Rialto’s Ainbo: Amazon Princess is not based on established IP like Paw Patrol, its opening weekend of $105,464 from 143 locations is a decent result, seeing it premiere in sixth position.
Directed by José Zelada and Richard Claus, the animation follows a young girl named Ainbo,...

Mary (Alexandra Daddario) and Ben (Diego Boneta) are the star-crossed black sheep of two powerful families engaged in a centuries-long feud – and they’re about to reignite an affair after many years apart. Their forbidden love triggers the dominoes that will draw in Mukul (Wade Allain-Marcus), Ben’s best friend, who owes him a life debt; Terrence (Justin Chatwin), Mary’s would-be protector-turned-stalker; Wayne (Travis Fimmel), an Aussie hitman with an open mind and a code of ethics; and his free-spirited girlfriend, Barbie (Emmanuelle Chriqui)…
There’s a particular style of filmmaking that resonates with me – the use of film noir and pulpy detective movie tropes in modern films. I don’t know why but the dichotomy of those older tropes combined with modern storytelling, especially quirky comedy,...

Plot: Two star-crossed lovers (Diego Boneta & Alexandra Daddario) attempt to be together despite their duelling media titan fathers. Review: For those not in the know, Die in a Gunfight was a hot script back in 2010. It made the Black List that year (a survey of the best unproduced screenplays) and was intended to be a Zac Efron vehicle for a while. As is usual in Hollywood, it took over a decade for Die in a Gunfight to get made, and Efron wound up aging out of the lead somewhat, resulting…...

From the 2010 edition of the Blacklist to Zac Efron’s schedule, Andrew Barrer and Gabriel Ferrari’s screenplay for Die in a Gunfight seemed to be getting the fast-track into theaters before seven years of development saw a revolving door of actors and directors changing. It would take almost a decade before cameras started rolling and the person sitting prettiest after the whole ordeal became Collin Schiffli. After two indie films written by frequent collaborator David Dastmalchian, he’s finally got his hands in the Hollywood pie with Lionsgate and a modestly star-studded cast of B-listers to help make his stylistic flourishes look good. And there are a lot of them. Whether or not they work to make this riff on “Romeo and Juliet” a success is beside the point.

The story, directed by Mark Koetsier, follows Hank, a loveable mutt with big dreams of becoming a Samurai. When he finds himself with a new job as sheriff of Kakamucho, he also finds he may have bitten off more than he can chew given the town is inhabited solely by cats.
The voice cast includes Michael Cera, Samuel L. Jackson, Ricky Gervais, George Takei, Michelle Yeoh, Djimon Hounsou and Brooks.

Alexandra Daddario and Diego Boneta (Scream Queens and the upcoming Terminator: Dark Fate) have signed on to co-star in the upcoming film, Die in a Gunfight. They join the already cast Olivia Munn (X-Men: Apocalypse), Helen Hunt, and David Dastmalchian (Ant-Man and the Wasp). Variety reports the following rundown of the characters:
The pair will play star-crossed lovers whose romance is upended by familial tensions. The film follows a young man (Boneta) who falls for the daughter (Daddario) of his father’s nemesis in New York City.
So it sounds like a bit of a Romeo and Juliet story with an action/thriller twist. This sounds like it could be an interesting film, with a pretty good cast rounding it out. Are you interested in this story?...

Chicago – Two notable Midwestern filmmakers recently teamed up for their second film together, as the Midwest Independent Film Festival presents “All Creatures Here Below,” written by Colllin Schiffli and lead actor David Dastmalchian, and directed by Schiffli. After acclaim for their first shot-in-Chicago effort, “Animals” (2014), the duo widened their landscape palette in this road picture, as two desperate souls (Karen Gillan and Dastmalchian) seek asylum in their hometown Kansas City. The night’s activities begins at 6pm on Tuesday, September 3rd, 2019, at the Landmark Century Cinema in Chicago, with an after party to follow the screening. Click here for details and tickets.
Both Schiffli and Dastmalchian have connections to Chicago. The director attended Columbia College here, and actor Dastmalchian attended The Theater School at DePaul University, before working in storefront theater in the city. Dastmalchian got his break in “The Dark Knight” (2008) as a henchman of the Joker. From there,...

David Dastmalchian and Rhys Wakefield are set as series regulars opposite Abigail Spencer and Mena Massoud in Hulu drama pilot Reprisal, from Warren Littlefield and A+E Studios.
Written by Josh Corbin (StartUp) and to be directed by BAFTA-nominated Jonathan Van Tulleken (Off Season), Reprisal hails from A+E Studios and The Littlefield Company. It’s a hyper-kinetic revenge tale following a relentless femme fatale (Spencer) who, after being left for dead, leads a vengeful campaign against a bombastic gang of gearheads.
Dastmalchian will play Johnson. As the longest standing member of The 3 River Phoenixes, Johnson has chosen to take a backseat to his placement in their hierarchy. Reliable, dedicated, and quieter than most, no one expects much out of the typically stoic young man. But it’s his progressing unpredictability that just may make him the Phoenixes’ greatest threat.
Wakefield will portray Matty.

While Adam McKay is certainly no novice when it comes to making successful films – he is the man behind Anchorman, after all – he is currently enjoying something of a surge in interest, following the release of his latest movie, The Big Short. The reason for such interest is that the award-baiting film covers some dramatic ground previously uncharted by the director, who is renowned for his comedy output. But, even while promoting The Big Short, the filmmaker cannot escape questions about Ant-Man And The Wasp.
Adam McKay found himself working with Marvel on the 2015 film Ant-Man after original writer-director Edgar Wright stepped away from the project, and was replaced at the helm by Peyton Reed. McKay was enlisted to work with star Paul Rudd on re-writing the script that had first been delivered by Wright and his collaborator Joe Cornish. With that partnership deemed a success, Vulture asked McKay if...

Script is an elevated thriller that follows a policewoman who has an ingenious serial killer arrive in her small beach town over the July 4th holiday weekend. She has to enter a psychologically daring and personal game of cat and mouse in order to stop him. Levy will produce and Dan Cohen will oversee with Fox exec Sarah Schweitzman.

According to our friends at Latino-Review, Marvel has hired two new writers to rewrite the script most recently revised by Adam McKay. Those two screenwriters are Gabriel Ferrari and Andrew Barrer. They are production writers, which means that they will be on the set of the film while it's shooting in Atlanta. So they will constantly be working on the script and making revisions during production.
This really isn't a big issue as it is a common practice in the movie business. There's a good chance that these two guys won't even get any screen credit. That will be up to the Writer's Guild arbitration committee.
Ferrari and Barrer broke into the business out of Nyu with a 2010 Black List script they wrote called Die In A Gunfight. They also worked on a draft of a big screen adaptation of Sabrina The Teenage Witch for Sony. According to the site,...

The duo behind Sony’s upcoming take on Sabrina The Teenage Witch are in negotiations to take a stab at the script for Marvel’s tiniest hero. Andrew Barrer & Gabriel Ferrari made the 2010 Black List fresh out of Nyu with Die In A Gunfight and later scored the scripting gig on the horror pic Haunt. Now the pair is eyed to rewrite Ant-Man for director Peyton Reed, who replaced Edgar Wright last month. Adam McKay did the most recent pass on the script about the shrinking superhero. Marvel wouldn’t comment. Barrer & Ferrari are repped by Wme and Caliber Media. […]...

It has a cast that includes Paul Rudd and Michael Douglas, but Ant-Man apparently still doesn't have a screenplay that Marvel Studios are happy with. Following the departure of Edgar Wright over creative differences, and a subsequent pass by Adam McKay, the latest draft has been taken on by the writing team of Andrew Barrer and Gabriel Ferrari. The pair landed themselves on the buzzy Black List for 2010, right after graduating from Nyu, with the screenplay for their still un-produced drama Die In A Gunfight. They've since had their horror pic Haunt (not to be confused with Vincenzo Natali's Haunter) brought to the screen with Harrison Gilbertson in the lead, and they've also been at work on Jonathan Levine's Legend and the developing Sabrina The Teenage Witch reboot.Too many cooks, or necessary triage? Whatever's going on, Marvel and new director Peyton Reed are clearly finding Ant-Man a particularly tough nut to crack.

After Marvel turned to frequent One-Shot writer Eric Pearson to touch up Joe Cornish and director Edgar Wright’s Ant-Man script led to the latter departing the project, Anchorman’s Adam McKay – who was at one point approached to replace Wright – was announced as the new writer of the movie.
However, according to a new report, writing duo Gabriel Ferrari and Andrew Barrer are now the latest to come aboard and Ant-Man as they have been hired to rewrite the script which was revised by McKay.
The news was broken by Latino-Review, and they point out the fact that rather than this being a sign that Ant-Man (which will now be directed by Yes Man helmer Peyton Reed) is in terrible trouble as it moves into production, Ferrari and Barrer have simply been hired as production writers.

So, do you want to know just how far away from Edgar Wright and Joe Cornish's vision for "Ant-Man" Marvel wants to move from? Well, creative differences already bounced Wright from helming the film, the script got a punch up by Adam McKay, and Peyton Reed is now directing. But apparently, that's not all. According to Latino Review, Gabriel Ferrari and Andrew Barrer have been hired on to rewrite the script, while also serving as production writers during the shoot (which is not unusual for Hollywood blockbusters). It's not clear how the final credits on this thing will work out—the WGA will eventually sort that—but the pair have turned heads with their "Die In A Gunfight" script, which landed on the Black List a few years ago, and they are also involved with the "Sabrina The Teenage Witch" remake which is ... something... The fact that she originated in 1960s era Archie Comics doesn't exactly qualify her as ComicBookMovie.com material, but there's a slight twist. She's going to be a superhero! Apparently the film will be an origin story similar to that of Spider-Man, as it features a young girl comes to terms with her newfound powers.
