The hot streak at the summer box office remains alive and well as director Lee Isaac Chung's "Twisters" did much, much better on opening weekend than anyone expected it to. The standalone sequel to the classic 1996 summer blockbuster "Twister" had been expected to open in the $50 million range based on early tracking numbers. Some analysts, however, had predicted that the disaster flick would open much higher. That proved to be true, so much so that Chung's crowd-pleaser has found its way into the record books with the biggest opening weekend ever for a disaster movie in the U.S.
Universal Pictures' "Twisters" took in an estimated $80.5 million domestically, easily topping the charts this past weekend. With that, it breaks a very specific record held by Roland Emmerich's "The Day After Tomorrow," which hit theaters 20 years ago in 2004. That film opened to $68.7 million domestically and, ever since, that...

David Corenswet is about to become a massive movie star. The "Pearl" and "The Greatest Hits" actor is about to be Clark Kent in director James Gunn's "Superman," which is due to hit theaters next summer. We recently got a look at Corenswet suited up as Superman and it instantly took him to another level of stardom. Before he makes his mark on the DC Universe, he's starring in another big blockbuster in the form of "Twisters." Serving as a standalone sequel to the 1996 classic blockbuster "Twister," it's one of the biggest movies of summer 2024.
Directed by Lee Isaac Chung ("Minari"), on paper, "Twisters" couldn't be more different than "Superman." One deals with exaggerated versions of natural disasters, while the other is a superhero movie centered on otherworldly beings. However, as Chung recently explained to The Hollywood Reporter, Corenswet did bring a little bit of Supes with him to this film's set.

As Twisters churns and thrashes its way into theaters, one of the film’s stars, Glen Powell, is paying tribute to the late actor Bill Paxton, who helped make the first film a classic. Paxton starred alongside Helen Hunt in Jan de Bont’s 1996 action blockbuster as Bill Harding, an accomplished storm chaser on the verge of changing the way extreme weather patterns. Despite not getting along on set, Paxton and Hunt’s chemistry in Twister is electric, and the film would only be nearly as memorable with Paxton’s energy, bravery, and entertaining approach to the material. In a post on social media, Powell remembered the late Paxton, whom he worked with on the 2013 film Red Wing.
“As we release Twisters into the world today, I just wanted to look up and tip my hat to the legend that is Bill Paxton,” Powell shared on Twitter. “A great friend...

Oscar-nominated director Lee Isaac Chung is stepping into the realm of summer blockbusters with "Twisters." Hitting theaters this weekend, the film serves as a standalone sequel to Jan de Bont's 1996 smash box office hit "Twister." It's a big step up for Chung, who previously directed the low-budget "Minari," which was one of the most acclaimed movies of 2020. And while this is his feature follow-up, Chung has had some experience working in the blockbuster realm on the small screen in the "Star Wars" universe. As it turns out, that experience directly paved the way for him to land the gig directing this massive summer tentpole.
Chung recently spoke with The Hollywood Reporter in honor of "Twisters" touching down in theaters. During the conversation, the filmmaker was asked if his work on "The Mandalorian" season 3 and the upcoming "Star Wars" series "Skeleton Crew" from Jon Watts were warm-up jobs for something bigger.

The Jacob Batalon-starring vampire-comedy series “Reginald the Vampire” returned to Syfy for Season 2 on May 8, but we’ve learned today that we won’t be getting a third season.
Syfy has cancelled “Reginald the Vampire,” Deadline reports today.
The short-lived series “followed Reginald Andres (Jacob Batalon), who, in a world populated by beautiful, fit and vain vampires, tumbles headlong into it as an unlikely hero.”
In this year’s second season, “Reginald Andres finally got his life together – when he was turned into a vampire. While he doesn’t fit into the stereotypical expectations of what a vampire looks like – he’s not chiseled or classically handsome – Reginald has found his place amongst an unlikely cohort that includes the cool vampire who sired him, the former vampire chieftain turned unexpected ally (or is she?), and his co-worker/former girlfriend.”

Horror comedy Reginald the Vampire is not being renewed for a third season at Syfy, TVLine has learned exclusively.
The series was an adaptation of Johnny B. Truant’s Fat Vampire book series. Created and penned by Harley Peyton (Twin Peaks, Chucky) who also served as showrunner, the dramedy imagined a world populated by “beautiful, fit and vain vampires.” Reginald Andres (played by Spider-Man: Homecoming‘s Jacob Batalon) tumbled headlong into it as an unlikely hero who navigated every kind of obstacle — the girl he loves but can’t be with, a bully manager at work and the vampire chieftain who wants him dead.

Tom Cruise attended the London premiere of Twisters earlier this week, and it’s safe to say he had an absolute ball. Anthony Ramos, who stars in Twisters alongside Daisy Edgar-Jones and Glen Powell, told People that Cruise was “losing his mind” during the screening.
“Glen was sitting behind me, my brother was next to me, and Tom was behind my brother. Tom just kept hitting me the whole entire movie,” Ramo said. “After the third time I turned back around, like, ‘Yo, Tom Cruise is bugging out right now!’ He keeps hitting me.” In a normal movie-watching situation, that would be very annoying, but are you really going to tell Tom Cruise to stop hitting you because he’s so excited about your movie?
Ramos continued, “He keeps hitting me because he’s excited about different moments, and he’s laughing. He’s just laughing out loud the whole entire film.

With the upcoming release of Twisters, it’s hard not to think of the late Bill Paxton, who starred in the original movie alongside Helen Hunt. Although the new movie isn’t expected to feature any of the original actors, it will feature a tribute to Paxton in the form of his son, James.
James Paxton, now 30, will make a cameo appearance in Twisters as a tribute to his father. He was just a year old when the original movie was shot, but his first time seeing the movie arrived a decade later when his father called him in to see it on TV. “Dad was making dinner and he called me in, like, ‘Hey, look, what’s on. It’s your old man,’” Paxton told Variety.

The summer box office has rebounded in recent weeks thanks to the blockbuster success of animated movies like "Despicable Me 4" and Pixar's "Inside Out 2," which is already one of the highest-grossing movies of all time. We also had a blockbuster horror breakout in the form of "A Quiet Place: Day One." But has the time come for an old-school blockbuster to become a theatrical hit? If the early numbers are any indication, it appears as though "Twisters" will indeed keep the hot streak alive as the disaster flick figures to get off to a promising start.
"Twisters" is currently eyeing an opening weekend between $40 and $55 million domestically when it arrives next weekend, per The Hollywood Reporter. That said, tracking from other outlets suggests that is a modest number even on the high end. Box Office Theory has the film taking in anywhere between $71 and $83 million in its debut.

Audiences appear to be blown away by Twisters as social media buzzes with the first reactions to the high-velocity action film. The standalone sequel to the 1996 film Twister makes landfall in theaters on July 19, one week before Marvel‘s Deadpool & Wolverine puts a hit out on the summer box office. Thankfully, many reactions to Twisters are glowingly positive, with audience members praising Glen Powell and Daisy Edgar Jones’s on-screen chemistry, brilliant direction by Lee Isaac Chung, and thrilling special effects.
People across Twitter say Twisters feels like a “good old fashioned Summer blockbuster,” with adrenaline-fueled action, a predictable yet effective story, and compelling protagonists who make the wild ride well worth the price of admission. Several of those who have seen the film predict it will “blow the theatrical roof off,” giving cinephiles another reason to enjoy their local theaters’ air conditioning and salty concessions.

In 2022, Max resurrected the long running teen favorite “Pretty Little Liars” from the brains behind “Riverdale” and “Chilling Adventures of Sabrina,” Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and Lindsay Calhoon Bring as “Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin.” Based on the books by Sara Shepard, the original followed four teenage girls in Rosewood, Pennsylvania who begin getting threatening messages years after their friend Alison disappears signed only with the initial “A.” Running for seven seasons beginning in 2010, “Pretty Little Liars” became a pop culture hit.
“Original Sin” is the the fourth series in the franchise and still set in that world, but this time around follows five friends in Millwood, Pennsylvania who are being stalked by “A” because of their mother’s involvement in the death of a classmate, Angela Waters, in 1999. While this serves as the main storyline, the friends also deal with serious issues like rape and suicide, as well as typical high school drama.

Matlock (1986-1995) featured the late great Andy Griffith as attorney Ben Matlock, who solved cases and caught perpetrators in a charming, unassuming, and disarming way.
It was one of the most popular shows of the period and is still enjoyed by many in reruns and on streaming apps today, which is why the Matlock reboot has been much anticipated.
This new CBS crime drama based on it features the following season 1 cast members and characters.
Madeline "Matty" Matlock (Kathy Bates)
Attorney Matty Matlock seemingly shares only a profession and a last name with Griffith's Ben Matlock character.
A trailer released by CBS shows Matty talking about the first Matlock series and referring to it as an old TV show, indicating that the original is a fictional show in this new Matlock series' universe.

With shows like Six Feet Under, Good Grief, Fun at the Funeral Parlor, and Chilling Adventures of Sabrina putting the “fun” back in funeral homes, it’s high time a show came along to remind audiences how grim and mysterious these houses of death can be. That’s why I’d like to bring Chop Shop to your attention. Deadline says a new series starring Christina Ricci and Hamish Linklater is gaining buzz as it prepares to court a network.
Inspired by the Kathy Braidhill novel, Chop Shop retells the true crime story about the Lamb Funeral Home in 1980s Los Angeles. The following description comes courtesy of Deadline‘s exclusive article: When David Sconce — the Machiavellian scion of a Bible college football coach and a church organist — takes the reins of the family business, the seemingly All-American clan begins a jaw-dropping descent from saints to sinners. Desperate to keep their funeral home afloat,...

Where are all my witches at?
I, like many women of my age, spent a formative part of my youth enamored with the idea of witches. While Buffy the Vampire Slayer wasn’t quite my bag, I adored Charmed. My VHS copy of Practical Magic got more play than a yo-yo. And, of course, I was an avid viewer of Sabrina the Teenage Witch.
Did I myself dabble in magical arts, though? No, and I won’t pretend I did either. But man, did I so often wish that one day I’d just wake up with magical powers. I also wished I’d wake up one day and have a twin, too, as I also voraciously devoured the T*Witches novel series.
When it came to classic Halloween tropes, witches often received the lightest treatment for a long time. Witch media, post the long-standing green-face, wart-nosed, pointy-hat likeness instead...

At the end of March, we learned that British actor Chance Perdomo, best known for his roles in Chilling Adventures of Sabrina and The Boys spin-off Gen V, had died following a motorcycle accident.
Shortly after the actor's passing, the show's production team confirmed they had paused work on the series to figure out how to move forward without him.
As Andre Anderson, the actor played one of Gen V's lead characters, with the stage ultimately set for him to be a major player in the world of The Boys. Fans have wondered if the role might be recast, but The Boys showrunner Eric Kripke has now elaborated on how Andre will be written out of the spin-off series.
"First, it's just so unbelievably tragic, and my heart goes out to his family," Kripke tells TV Line. "We're not trying to replace him because we can’t. We're playing the character's death on the show.

Lee Isaac Chung’s Twisters sequel will receive its Italian premiere at this year’s Taormina Film Festival, which takes place July 12 to July 19 in southern Italy.
Twisters will screen at the festival’s historic Teatro Antico amphitheater. This year’s event will mark the festival’s 70th edition. The film will be released in Italian theatres on July 17 via Warner Bros. Pictures and will hit North American cinemas on July 19 via Universal Pictures.
“I am grateful to Warner Bros. for this wonderful gift, which confirms one of our programming guidelines: relying on diversity of styles,” said Marco Müller, artistic director of the Taormina Film Festival. “With Twisters, Lee Isaac Chung has gone from his Academy Award-winning drama Minari to deliver a spectacular cinematic event speaking to an even wider audience.”
Twisters is billed as “a sweeping current-day chapter of the 1996 blockbuster.” The film stars Golden Globe nominee Daisy Edgar-Jones as Kate Cooper, a former storm chaser, and Glen Powell who plays Tyler Owens, a charming and reckless social media superstar. The synopsis reads: Two opposing forces, come together to try to predict, and possibly tame, the immense power of tornadoes.
The cast also features Golden Globe nominee Anthony Ramos (In The Heights), Brandon Perea (Nope), Golden Globe awardee Maura Tierney (Beautiful Boy), and Sasha Lane (American Honey), along with David Corenswet (the upcoming Superman), Daryl McCormack (Peaky Blinders), Kiernan Shipka (Chilling Adventures of Sabrina) and Nik Dodani (Atypical).
Producers are Frank Marshall (the Jurassic Park and Indiana Jones franchises) and Patrick Crowley (the Jurassic Park and Bourne franchises). The film was written by Mark L. Smith, screenwriter of The Revenant, from a story by Joseph Kosinski, based on characters created by Michael Crichton & Anne-Marie Martin.
The Taormina Film Festival is promoted and organised by the Fondazione Taormina Arte Sicilia with the support of the Assessorato del Turismo dello Sport e dello Spettacolo della Regione Siciliana of the Sicilia Film Commission, the Municipality of Taormina and the Ministry of Culture–General Directorate for Cinema and Audiovisual (MiC).

At long last, Eddie Murphy is reprising his role as street-smart cop Axel Foley in the fourth instalment of the Beverly Hills Cop franchise, which is set to hit Netflix this summer. But, it isn’t easy being a middle aged action star. It’s been nearly thirty years since we last saw Eddie Murphy as Axel Foley, and in a recent interview with People Magazine he admitted that the shoot was a “rough one”.“I did Axel Foley when I was in my 20s. I am not in my 20s anymore,” he said. At any rate, Murphy won’t be the only aged actor from the original to show up, with many of the classic Beverly Hills Cop cast members are set to join him in Beverly Hills Cop: Axel Foley. Here’s everything we know about Beverly Hills Cop 4!

I don’t live in tornado country, so I’ve never experienced one, but they seem pretty frightening. However, Twisters star Glen Powell does have a history with tornados, and he told Total Film that he was able to bring that experience to his role.
“It’s actually something I got to incorporate a little bit into the movie,” Powell said. “I had an experience with this tornado in Jarrell, Texas. It was an F5 – one of the big ones. It decimated Jarrell. I was outrunning it with my aunt Taffy, and a car full of cousins. And I remember us having to take shelter. It didn’t get close enough to do any damage to us, but I remember the fear of being on the road when, you know, the biggest imaginable one was kind of coming through.“

Being from the Midwest myself (and even facing tornado warnings in the past few weeks), it seems that the severe storms will be hitting no matter what as the spiritual sequel to Twister touches down in theaters this July. This year has seen some crazy tornadic activity for states like Nebraska, Iowa and Missouri. However, Lee Issac Chung’s Twisters is taking them to a whole new level. Universal Pictures has just released the new three-minute trailer for the summer thrill ride, looking to outdo any of the cyclones that Bill Paxton and Helen Hunt encountered in the 1996 original. This time Daisy Edgar-Jones partners up with the “Tornado Wrangler,” played by Glen Powell.
The official synopsis reads, “Edgar-Jones stars as Kate Cooper, a former storm chaser haunted by a devastating encounter with a tornado during her college years who now studies storm patterns on screens safely in New York City.

The loss of actor Chance Perdomo in March from a motorcycle accident was devastating to fans. Such a young talent Perdomo was, the impact of his death was felt throughout the industry. It, too, brought up the question of what would become of his character on The Boys spin-off Gen V. Now, a decision has been made over Perdomo and Gen V, and it’s probably just what fans were expecting and hoping.
Producers posted the following statement on the official Gen V Instagram: “As we continue to navigate the tragic loss of Chance Perdomo, everyone at Gen V is determined to find the best way to pay respect to his memory. We won’t be recasting the role, because no one can replace Chance. Instead, we have been taking the time and space to refract our Season 2 storylines as we begin production in May. We will honor Chance and his legacy this season.

It was with great shock that the actor Chance Perdomo’s death was announced a few weeks ago. At the age of just 27, the British-American actor lost his life in a motorcycle crash. Known for his phenomenal performances as Ambrose Spellman in The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina and as Andre Anderson in The Boys spin-off, the late actor was believed to be heading to Toronto for the first table read of Gen V season 2 when the accident happened.
Production was immediately halted as the creative team and cast took some time to process the tragedy and figure out how to handle it within the show.

Weeks before his death on March 30, the star of “The Boys” spin-off “Gen V” Chance Perdomo revealed the role on “The Boys” that he auditioned for — and failed to snag. While speaking on actor Michael Rosebaum’s podcast “Inside Of You,” Perdomo said, “I auditioned for Huey on ‘The Boys,’ and I don’t think I got close. But I remember reading it and being like, ‘I absolutely love everything about this.'”
Earlier in the interview, Perdomo said that he’d also auditioned for the role of Jughead Jones on “Riverdale” — a role that ultimately went to Cole Sprouse. “I didn’t get that, but I was close,” he said. “It was one of my first auditions. I think it was between me and three other people, or three or five.”
Showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa remembered his audition, however, and “wrote [his ‘Chilling Adventures of Sabrina’ character] Ambrose with me in mind.

The producers of Prime Video’s Gen V announced Sunday they will not recast Chance Perdomo’s role following the actor’s death in March, telling fans they are working to find a way to best honor him.
“As we continue to navigate the tragic loss of Chance Perdomo, everyone at Gen V is determined to find the best way to pay respect to his memory,” a statement published to social media read. “We won’t be recasting the role, because no one can replace Chance. Perdomo played Andre Anderson in Gen V, Amazon’s spinoff of The Boys. Andre is a popular student at Godolkin University who is capable of magnetically manipulating things.

Sometimes we start watching something just because the news around us is filled with advertisements for certain TV shows.
The Internet buzz always attracts a lot of viewers, and while sometimes these series end up being the ultimate all-time hits, some of them turn out to be huge disappointments.
It is also a common story when a show starts off perfectly well, but after a certain point it just loses its charm for the viewer. And here are 5 shows that Redditors had no choice but to give up on and move on from.
1. Parasyte: The Grey (2024)
Yes, it is just scandalous to start the list with the new 100% rated Netflix K-drama, but here we are, already facing viewers who thought it was not worth their time to even binge watch it having nothing else to do.

Showrunners are the creative visionaries of a series.
They might not be the original creators, but they cover all aspects of the creative elements, evolve the show's vision, and decide where the story and character arcs will go.
They run the writing rooms, head the development, hire writers, and ensure actors are kept happy and that the budget is not exceeded.
Series are usually a collective effort, with writers giving their thoughts, but showrunners have the final say and are essential.
Where would the industry be without people like Shonda Rhimes, Matt and Ross Duffer (Stranger Things), and Ryan Murphy?
It would be mundane and repetitive.
Intelligent and prolific showrunners are the difference between a hit and a flop.
They set an unwavering tone for their ideas, and consistency is vital.
If the reason you fell in love with a series is altered or gone one day, then the connection created is absent,...

Despite receiving mixed-to-negative reviews, the live-action Scooby-Doo movies remain beloved among fans of the Mystery Inc. gang. A threequel appears to be off the table, but Variety (via Toonado.com) is reporting that a new live-action TV series is in the works and heading to Netflix.
No plot details have been revealed, but the one-hour drama project is nearing a deal at the streamer with a script-to-series commitment. Based on the classic Hanna-Barbera cartoon of the same name, Warner Bros. Television is producing the project with Josh Appelbaum and Scott Rosenberg (Cowboy Bepop) serving as writers and executive producers.
André Nemec and Jeff Pinkner will also executive produce under their Midnight Radio banner, while Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, and Leigh London Redman will take on the same role through Berlanti Productions.

Mystery Inc. rides again! Variety is reporting that the long-running "Scooby-Doo" franchise may be making a leap back to the live-action world, this time courtesy of Netflix. Sources tell the outlet that, unlike past versions of the Hanna-Barbera-created franchise, the new series won't be a comedic mystery but a one-hour drama series. Warner Bros. Television, which has been responsible for other dark teen-centric Netflix shows like "Chilling Adventures of Sabrina" and "Dead Boy Detectives," is set to produce.
Though the deal apparently isn't set in stone yet, the untitled "Scooby-Doo" live-action project is apparently in talks to receive a script-to-series commitment, with the team from Arrowverse maestro Greg Berlanti's Berlanti Productions (which also helped bring the two above titles to life) set to produce. Al Pacino has played the Devil before (in the 1997 film The Devil’s Advocate), now he’s set to play an enemy of the Devil, as he has signed on to play a troubled priest in the exorcism horror film The Ritual. Pacino will star in the film alongside Dan Stevens of Abigail and Godzilla x Kong, who will also be playing a troubled priest.
Variety reports that XYZ Films has acquired the worldwide rights to The Ritual and are planning to give the movie a theatrical release sometime in 2025. While he doesn’t fit into the stereotypical expectations of what a vampire looks like – he’s not chiseled or classically handsome – Reginald has found his place amongst an unlikely cohort that includes the cool vampire who sired him, the former vampire chieftain turned unexpected ally (or is she?), and his co-worker/former girlfriend.
A show with a lot of heart and just enough blood, Reginald the Vampire proves the undead life is just as complicated as life itself.
The series stars Jacob Batalon, Em Haine (Chilling Adventures of Sabrina), Mandela Van Peebles (Mayor of Kingstown), Savannah Basley (SurrealEstate), Marguerite Hanna (Ashley Weeks), Aren Buchholz (Supernatural), and Georgia Waters...

Twisters stars Daisy Edgar-Jones (Where the Crawdads Sing) and Glen Powell (Top Gun: Maverick) as opposing forces who come together to try to predict, and possibly tame, the immense power of tornadoes. Twisters got some major love during Universal’s presentation at CinemaCon, with the audience getting to see an extended preview of the movie.
The extended preview starts off at a rodeo, which is disrupted by a giant tornado as bulls and horses run wild amidst the chaos. We see scenes of Powell’s character as assembles a group of storm chasers as two tornados combine to form a super tornado. “It’s alright to be scared… fear is the reason you do it,” Powell’s character says. “You don’t face your fears, you ride them.” Our own Chris Bumbray said that the new footage looks huge with tons of stuff happening, but he added that it looks...

Exclusive: After six years as a manager at More/Medavoy, Stephen Belden is going it alone, having launched his own management and production company, Death Wish Entertainment.
“The dream,” Belden said, “has always been to work with a core group of clients that I absolutely adore as artists and as human beings and to be able to produce projects with and for those clients. With this company I get to focus on exactly that and I couldn’t be more excited.”
Belden explained that the name Death Wish is “a tongue-in-cheek nod to the fact that it’s harder than ever to be working in the entertainment industry right now,” underscoring at the same time that he “couldn’t be more optimistic about what the future holds for the up and coming generation of actors, writers, directors, and producers that I work with.”
Additionally, he expressed his gratitude to those at his former company.
