Exclusive: Paramount Pictures has tapped Scotty Landes (The Machine) to script Thicc, a new comedy based on Matthew Schneier’s 2019 New York Magazine article, “At the Russian Baths With the Big Boys of Brawn.”
The film follows an offensive lineman who, after seeing a career-ending injury cut his professional football dreams short, finds unexpected fame and fortune in the world of brawny male modeling. Todd Garner will produce via Broken Road Productions alongside Scoop Wasserstein via New York Magazine/Vox Media Studios.
Schneier’s article explores the rise and success of Img Models’ Brawn division, which focuses on plus-size male models, a groundbreaking initiative in an industry traditionally dominated by slimmer figures. Zach Miko, the division’s first recruit, highlights his journey from being mistaken for an electrician to becoming a sought-after model earning six figures. Despite initial skepticism, the division has flourished, reflecting a broader societal shift towards body positivity and inclusivity.

Chino Pacas is dedicating his new song “Mami Chula” to “las morritas.” On Thursday night, the Mexican singer released the single set to be featured on his debut album, expected later this year.
“The song is like a corrido with reggaeton. We combined the genres,” Pacas tells Rolling Stone. “In the first verse, ‘I know you’re dying to talk to me and even if you want to convince yourself that you’re not” is an example of what commonly happens in young relationships.”

Let’s start here: watching Bobby Cannavale and Robert De Niro argue on a New York City street while cars angrily beep their horns is electric. Truly exhilarating to watch. Likewise, watching the great Rose Byrne manage multiple emotions on her face is tantamount to listening to Yo-Yo Ma play cello. Ezra, written by Tony Spiridakis and directed by Tony Goldwyn, tells the story of a separated couple’s attempt to raise their autistic son. Max (Cannavale) is a struggling stand-up comedian; his ex, Jenna (Rose Byrne), is trying to keep it all together and not doing well. Their son, Ezra (William A. Fitzgerald), is causing disturbances at his school. Soon he’s forced to go to a specialized school with other “special” kids. Max cannot allow this; neither can his temper. It’s all for Jenna and her lawyer boyfriend (Goldwyn) to do to keep Max from beating up the whole world.

What is poignant about “This Life of Mine” — the final film by French writer-director Sophie Fillières — is all but impossible to extract from the beleaguered circumstances of its creation. Aged just 58, Fillières died last summer, shortly after completing the shoot of this wistful, somewhat autofictional study of midlife feminine crisis. Postproduction was supervised by her children, the actors Agathe and Adam Bonitzer, with the guidance of notes Fillières made in hospital, when it became clear to her that she’d never complete the project herself. What emerges from this process is a suitably elegiac testament to Fillières’ curious comic voice, centered on a fragile alter ego — played with a game lack of vanity by Agnès Jaoui — fearful that her life is passing her by. As filmmaking, however, it wants for shape and drive, and the intuitive editorial decision-making that only an author can bring to her work.

On Netflix’s “Baby Reindeer” when Martha (Jessica Gunning) enters the pub where down-and-out comedian Donny Dunn (show creator and writer Richard Gadd) works, she is looking downcast, like she’s trying to disappear. One simple cup of tea opens her up. It’s an act of kindness (or pity), but that’s all it takes for Donny to become her new fixation. Her interest in him unfolds in a montage of colorful outfits, badly applied pink lipstick and lies. She sends him tens of thousands of emails, ranging from the randy (“myy curtains r waitinfro yu they r readyy”) to the ranting (“i just had an egg”). She follows him home and sits outside his window for hours, pretends to be a hot-shot lawyer with politicians’ names in her phone and to own a penthouse in Belsize Park. Martha...

If you’ve been anywhere near a television in the last couple of years, odds are you’re already familiar with Dominic Burgess. The British actor broke through in 2017’s “Feud: Bette and Joan” as actor Victor Buono, before popping up in a number of memorable appearances — playing everything from serial killer John Wayne Gacy in “Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story” to an accident-prone man on “The Good Place” whose hideous red boots create an existential crisis for Chidi.
Most recently, the actor has been stealing scenes as Grayman, the stylist to the grande dames (including Kristen Wiig and Allison Janney) on Apple TV’s “Palm Royale” — and as Hamish Moss, a director on the rise on “American Horror Story: Delicate.” That is, he was on the rise before the April 3 episode, in which Moss met a gruesome death at the hands of Kim Kardashian’s devilish publicist.

Raj Kapoor Was Known For Throwing The Best Holi Parties & Here’s How Amitabh Bachchan Was Reborn ( Photo Credit – Yrf / YouTube )
The 70s saw the rise of one of the biggest superstars in this country. When Amitabh Bachchan was born, it was just a matter of a few years ago, and he rose to the top as the Angry Young Man of Bollywood. But then came a time when he hit rock bottom, and it was none other than Raj Kapoor who cheered him up at a Holi Party.
The showman was famous for his Holi parties in Bollywood. At one such party, he noticed a disheartened Big B standing aloof. While everyone was too busy enjoying the Holi festivities, none noticed how distressed the Deewar actor was.
It was a time when Amitabh Bachchan was experiencing a low in his career with continuous flops. As many as 10. He was...

The long-awaited adaptation of Stephen King’s Salem’s Lot from director Gary Dauberman (Annabelle Comes Home) is still without a release date, but we’ve learned from The Hollywood Reporter this afternoon that the film will Not be releasing in theaters at all.
As we suspected, Salem’s Lot will be a straight-to-streaming release for the Max streaming service. THR notes, “No date was given, but sources believe a fourth quarter release is likely.”
Originally set for theatrical release on September 9, 2022, the new Stephen King adaptation was recently bumped to April 21, 2023, before getting ejected from the theatrical slate.
For what it’s worth, Stephen King has recently tweeted praise for the film.
King wrote earlier this year, “I’ve seen the new Salem’S Lot and it’s quite good. Old-school horror filmmaking: slow build, big payoff. Not sure why WB is holding it back; not like it’s embarrassing, or anything.

A New Year means lots of removals from Netflix and January 1st is looking busy, with over 100 movies set to leave the service already. Below, we’ll be keeping track of all the Netflix departures for the first month of 2024.
First, a few housekeeping notes as to how Netflix removals work before we dive in. Due to licensing agreements, shows and movies added to Netflix aren’t added forever. Instead, they’re essentially rented for a fixed period. All the shows below have their current window on Netflix ending and will likely be bound for a rival streaming service.
We list titles slightly differently from other outlets, with our listings being the actual day of removal. If you want to watch any titles scheduled to expire on January 1st, for example, you’ll need to watch by the end of December 31st.

Shot in dense, high-contrast black and white, writer-director C.J. “Fiery” Obasi’s “Mami Wata,” unspools like a mysterious dream. It’s both inscrutable and hypnotic, delivering indelible images while remaining narratively opaque. Billed as a “West African folklore,” its story could be taken as a straightforward fable about tradition vs. modernity and how power corrupts. But as its plot unravels, confounding layers surface beneath that easy explanation. “Mami Wata,” a Sundance discovery selected to be Nigeria’ official Oscar submission, keeps the audience entranced if never truly engaged.
Taking its cues from the legend of the female water spirit revered in that part of the world, Obasi’s story centers on Mama Efe (Rita Edochie), a medium and healer who claims to hold the keys to the all-powerful Mami Wata. The inhabitants of the isolated oceanside village shower Mama Efe with crops and gifts in an effort to win over the water deity.

While his features are praised for their inventive and stylish fight sequences, costumes and other aspects, one of King Hu's trademarks was the influence of Buddhist philosophy in his works. Destiny is perhaps the most significant motif linking all of his works, with many of his characters fulfilling their fate in the form of a prophecy or their principles, which is the fight against corruption within the world. King Hu has created tales that might be staged in the distant past, albeit one spiced with fantasy elements, but in the end they also reflect the present with its reliance on narratives to make sense of events and actions. In one of his last projects “The Wheel of Life”, which he co-directed with Hsing lee and Pai Ching-jui, we are told three tales from different periods in time, showcasing the influence of fate on people and the world around them,...

For only the second time since mid-June, Suits is not the No. 1 title in Nielsen’s streaming rankings.
That honor belongs to Netflix’s The Fall of the House of Usher, which snagged the top spot for the week of Oct. 9-15. Writer-director Mike Flanagan’s spin on the titular Edgar Allan Poe story (and several others by the author) drew 1.23 billion minutes of viewing, edging out the 1.13 billion for Suits.
The latter series continued its months-long run above the billion-minute mark, however, and has now compiled almost 44.4 billion minutes (about 739.8 million hours) of viewing on Netflix and Peacock since it first hit the rankings in June. Nielsen notes that viewing of Suits’ ninth and final season, which is only available on Peacock, accounted for 6 percent of the weekly tally (about 67.6 million minutes) — the highest percentage for those episodes since the other eight seasons debuted on Netflix.

Iron straps bind an innocent security guard to a chair. He writhes and screams as a contraption comes near his face, a Pov shot revealing buzzing blades, grinding gears, and a set of glowing red eyes. The security guard scrambles to set himself free, trying to control his hyperventilating long enough to shake loose one of the restraints. But it’s no good. The contraption settles on his face, drowning his screams under a mechanical mask.

The long-awaited adaptation of Stephen King’s Salem’s Lot from director Gary Dauberman (Annabelle Comes Home) is still without a release date, but we did get a bit of an update on Halloween night earlier this week. According to the latest reports, Warner Bros. is toying with the idea of bringing Salem’s Lot straight-to-streaming sometime in 2024.
Originally set for theatrical release on September 9, 2022, the new Stephen King adaptation was recently bumped to April 21, 2023, before getting ejected from the theatrical slate altogether. As of now, Salem’s Lot still doesn’t have a release date. If this week’s latest update is accurate, the film will be debuting on the Max streaming service in the coming months.
Taking to Twitter this week, Stephen King himself has shared his honest thoughts on Gary Dauberman’s adaptation of his classic novel. And it sounds like he’s (mostly) a fan.

One of the biggest questions this year in terms of horror releases remains: Where’s the Salem’s Lot remake? According to Variety, the Gary Dauberman-directed Stephen King adaptation may be heading to Max, the Warner Bros. Discovery streaming platform.
Originally set for theatrical release on September 9, 2022, the new Stephen King adaptation was recently bumped to April 21, 2023, before getting ejected from the theatrical slate altogether. As of now, Salem’s Lot still doesn’t have a release date.
While a Warner Bros. spokesperson told Variety, “No decision has been made about the film’s future distribution plans,” the outlet cites that “the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike has created a growing need for Max content.” That makes Salem’s Lot a prime candidate, considering how long the adaptation has been shelved.
Perhaps, with vocal support from fans, Salem’s Lot may yet head to theaters as Evil Dead Rise did earlier this year.

Judy Nugent, who portrayed one of the twins on the early TV sitcom The Ruggles and a girl who flies around the world in the arms of the Man of Steel on a heartwarming Adventures of Superman episode, has died. She was 83.
Nugent died on Oct. 26 “surrounded by family at her Montana ranch after a short battle with cancer,” according to a family statement shared by her daughter-in-law and Battlestar Galactica and Chicago Fire actress Anne Lockhart (the older daughter of Lassie and Lost in Space star June Lockhart).
The younger daughter of a prop man at MGM, Nugent also appeared in two films directed by Douglas Sirk: as a wise-cracking tomboy who tries to get a blinded widow (Jane Wyman) to snap out of it in Magnificent Obsession (1954), and as one of the daughters of Fred MacMurray and Joan Bennett’s characters in There’s Always Tomorrow (1956).

Oscar voters in the Best International Feature Film category have received their group assignments for this year’s initial round of voting, with 89 films included on the seven lists that the Academy has sent to members.
The lists, which were obtained by TheWrap, include presumed favorites “The Zone of Interest” (United Kingdom), “The Taste of Things” (France), “The Promised Land” (Denmark) and “Perfect Days” (Japan), along with a number of documentaries, among them Estonia’s “Smoke Sauna Sisterhood,” Brazil’s “Pictures of Ghosts” and Ukraine’s “20 Days in Mariupol.”
The 89 films are four short of the record of 93 qualifying films in the category. The list of group assignments does not make up the Academy’s official list of eligible films; it’s possible that assigned films might still fail to qualify before first-round voting begins on Dec. 18. “The Equalizer 3” (Sony) debuted on PVOD at $19.99 with #1 placement at both iTunes and Vudu. It’s #5 at Google Play, which seems to be lagging worse than usual; its titles haven’t changed in four days, which likely affects some rankings.
Meantime, “Fair Play,” the relationship thriller that premiered to acclaim at Sundance last January, is an immediate #1 at Netflix. The streamer paid $20 million for worldwide rights, a bargain against the production costs for other Netflix Originals.
The Denzel Washington franchise, currently #8 in theaters with $86 million domestic gross, added PVOD after 32 days. “The Nun II” (Warner Bros.), currently #7 at the box office with $81 million, arrived a week sooner at 25 days at $19.99. It is #2 at Vudu (which lists by revenue) and lags elsewhere: It’s #5 at iTunes and #10 at Google Play.

The upcoming edition of the singing reality show Sa Re Ga Ma Pa will feature a new format that includes spontaneous challenges thrown at contestants by the judges after one has delivered an outstanding act in a particular style or genre. Rather than a set template with weekly rounds one is familiar with, this challenging environment will stimulate a competitive edge to contestants.
The show will see Himesh Reshammiya, Neeti Mohan, Anu Malik in the judges panel and Aditya Naryan returning as the host. Earlier months ago, Sa Re Ga Ma Pa announced a nation-wide hunt for ‘Og’ voices across India. For the first time ever, the audition process went paperless – led by a strong digital leg and even the on-ground phase saw negligible use of paper.

In 2011, the summer box office had concluded with a mid-budgeted historical drama starring primarily women dominating the box office for about a month from August to September. The Help was a film adaptation of an international bestseller by Kathryn Stockett from director Tate Taylor, whose credits include the James Brown biopic, Get On Up, and the horror film, Ma. The movie featured an all-star cast, including Viola Davis, Emma Stone, Bryce Dallas Howard, Octavia Spencer, and Jessica Chastain.
Deadline reveals that one of the film’s stars, Jessica Chastain, has proposed her idea for a sequel to the film. While appearing on Entertainment Weekly’s Awardist Podcast, Chastain spoke about the film and responded to the notion of a sequel, “You know who I think about all the time, and I just wish I could play her [again]? Celia Foote. I just want to do something, Celia and Minny, and see what happened.

Here’s some news that might even cheer up Oscar the Grouch: The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences has created two new Emmy categories for puppetry performance and puppet design/styling. Both awards will be handed out at this year’s second-ever Children’s & Family Emmys.
“Historically, puppetry performers would enter in the live action performer categories,” said NATAS CEO Adam Sharp, in announcing the new competition. “So, if you were the handler of a puppet, then you would go up against a lead actor or lead actress, and that created for some odd pairings. But managing a puppet is a very different kind of performance than a regular live action performance.”
Back when children’s programming was awarded at the Daytime Emmys, it was usually in the “outstanding principal performance in a children’s program” category (which went through several name changes over the years). In 2021, for example,...

“I would do anything with Octavia, for Octavia, in the ballpark of Octavia, if there’s a picture of Octavia in the background at one point in the script — I would do anything for that glorious woman,” McCarthy said.
She continued, “She’s a better person, she’s the funniest human I know, she’s the kindest, smartest person I know. We’ve been friends for over 25 years.”
A sequel to Ma has not been greenlit but the director Tate Taylor already has an idea about what the titular character would be doing in a follow-up film.
