You Are What You Eat: A Twin Experiment (2024)
Eggplants and Cucumbers are more arousing
I agree with a lot of reviews here (bait/switch, infomercial, need more data, more focus on twins DNA, accuracy in 8 weeks).
So, I'll post what no one has said yet. What was the point of testing for sexual arousal other than a forced cringey way to divert attention from the sad animal (and fish) cage scenes (cue Sarah McLachlan music).
The focus was mainly on the 2 women sets (with a pervy doctor to provide "legitimacy"). What about the guys? We never get to see or hear their supersize "experience". (Even years ago documentary, "Supersize" didn't go there, which was more effective in researching health choices over a time period.)
Seems one sided and unscientific that (spoiler alert) vegans get more "blood flow".
Regarding politicians restating the obvious, would have been refreshing to see a new initiative or program implemented to fund healthier options in urban areas.
White House Farm (2020)
Compelling with flaws
The grim pacing and cinematography are great. I felt for the Columbo-like detective and his frustration with politics and inept authority. For me, I would have liked for him to have closure with his colleagues even without recognition in the 'real world'. The same goes with the husband/father. All the build up and he didn't seem believable being so chummy with Jeremy throughout. After what happened with his whole family he was way too chill. Also- considering reasonable doubt, even tho it felt good putting him away, it was anti climatic. The trip to St Tropez and teasing male friend felt scripted without adding to the authenticity. The girlfriend selling out to the tabloids actually sadly seemed most believable. After being so invested, I was left with a 'that's it?'
I Want Someone to Eat Cheese With (2006)
I want cheese but not this rental
Great ensemble cast but unfortunately a bunch of undeveloped ideas make the film drag. One feels not fulfilled at the end after waiting for some kind of conclusion, closure, or at least an ironic twist.
It had that familiar "Curb" feel without dare I say it, Larry as the annoying polar opposite. The music was there, the 'show about nothing' scenes pop up, but without any common thread or suspense - it falters as a solo project that ran out of budget.
Spoilers: The movie title speaks about cheese but she prefers the rice pudding. Is cheese a better selling title than rice pudding? He prefers just any junk food, regardless of the sell by date. Maybe I want someone to eat 'cheese-dogs' or ice cream in a pirate suit would have at least tied some scenes together.
Marty: this is just not funny and overdone. People just don't care about a 'show' within a show. A coffee book table about coffee books was funnier.
Unless you are big fans of the cast, save your time and eat some cheese. It doesn't even have to be with anyone.
Grilled (2006)
Grilled, but not well-done
Everyone seems to agree we expect more from Ray and Kevin.
Starts off slow. Best line is .....punch your A-hole. That's what this movie needs. And when you get to the end, what's the point? Actually throughout the movie- no point or flow: the 'mobsters', the suicide attempt by Juliette, Kevin 'pretending' be a counselor could have been a lot funnier.
Is it me - or is High Def not a good idea for some actors? Too many close shots of Ray looking thru a door's window (as if in a busy banquet hall, no one would be coming in and out), over and over again.
What was supposed to be sexy with Ray and the woman skeeved me out. He just seemed so creepy. It actually got more interesting when it was revealed she was a 'man' (like that is believable).
Best performance: Tony. Seemed unscripted and kept you wondering what he was going to do next. When he was bumped off....the story that had potential hope also died.
And $21,000 (minus commission) is supposed to be a large sum to change one's life? Not even a happy ending.........Budget must have ran out.
