The Decameron (2024)
WILD!
Just finished watching all the episodes, and here's my review:
Positives:
A super crazy, binge-worthy historical drama. When I saw that the first episode was about an hour long, I almost wanted to quit. But not a single scene was boring, and the same goes for the rest of the episodes. The show is highly entertaining with very few slow scenes that won't ruin your experience. After the first episode, I stopped checking the duration because I was enjoying it. The direction, the writing, the cast, the background music, the location, and the story all of it worked well.
No character is safe in this show, which I love. I enjoy shows where they kill off some or many lead characters because it keeps you engaged and interested in seeing who will survive until the end.
The cast did an amazing job. I love many of the characters, especially Filomena, Licisca, Misia, and Neifile, who were my favorites. Even though it's currently a limited series, I'd love for the show to continue for at least three seasons or more..
The final episode includes a really dark scene that I wasn't expecting. The overall ending was superb and satisfying, avoiding the usual cliffhanger tactic to force a network renewal.
The ratings are currently a bit low (5.9), but please give it 10-15 minutes of your time before judging the show based on these ratings and skipping it.
Negatives:
Although I don't mind nudity, some of it felt a bit unnecessary. Almost everyone is involved, including straight people, gays, lesbians, and even rats in the intro. But, this doesn't impact the overall experience much.
The final battle could have been more interesting and thrilling, keeping us on the edge. Instead, it was made more casual.
They could have explored the black deaths happening during the pandemic a bit more. The show mainly focuses on those who are not affected, so it doesn't feel like it's set during a pandemic. The focus is more on, poisonous deaths, revenge, and war rather than the disease.
Overall: This is a must-watch and super binge-worthy show. I hope it gets the hype it deserves, with popular leads from hit shows like Sex Education and Derry Girls. It's on Netflix and is one of the best comedy period dramas. It may not be as good as The Great, but fans of that show might also enjoy this one. Rating: 3.75/5.
Time Bandits (2024)
Fun!
I didn't find the trailer too interesting, so I wasn't really excited to watch this show. But because of Lisa Kudrow, the adventure genre, and it being an Apple TV Plus comedy show, I decided to give it a try.
To be honest, at the beginning, it seemed kind of normal. I thought about skipping it after 20 minutes because it felt childish, average, and predictable. But as I continued watching, I really started to like it. I watched both episodes. The duration is fine, although I usually prefer comedy shows that are a bit shorter. This is the first adventure genre show I've watched, and I really enjoyed it. There were some nice jokes, and the show has a cool vibe. The cast is awesome, especially the young kid, who is a really good actor, and Lisa Kudrow, who is still amazing. I loved the visuals, the feel of the show, and the little bit of history lessons. I haven't watched the 1981 movie, but I don't think I need to since I'll be watching the remaining episodes. I would have liked the show even more if there was some romantic tension and if the episodes were less than 30 minutes. Also, it would have been better if all the episodes were released at once, but two episodes a week is also fine.
Overall, it's a nice, fun watch. This show might not be for everyone but it's definitely for me as I too would love to escape the reality. 3.15/5.
Land of Women: Chapter 6 (2024)
Entertaining!!
After such a long time, I have seen a family drama this good! The finale episode is super fun and the best episode of the season. Loved the cast, the storyline, and the overall vibe of this show. The hitmen who were threatening the three lead characters felt like they came out of a comic book or some children's book; they didn't seem serious at all, and it was hard to believe they could harm anyone. In the trailer for this show, the song 'Don't Go Yet' was playing. I would have liked it if they had used that song in the finale episode as well; it would have fit well with the ending and all.
This show definitely deserves more hype, as I think it's one of the best family drama shows of 2024. It should be renewed for a second season, especially after that ending. This is a comedy show, so if you don't think too much logically, you will definitely love it! A must-watch!
Palm Royale: Maxine Throws a Party (2024)
Maxine Throws A Cliffhanger Party!
Just finished the first season. I didn't give it a chance when it was released because of the low ratings and average critic reviews, but I was shocked to find it truly binge-worthy despite a lot of silly, illogical stuff. In the first episode, it reminded me a lot of "Why Women Kill" season 2. The lead character, Maxine, is super likable, positive, and good. Besides her, I also liked the character Linda.
Regarding this episode, the climax was kind of like the song in this episode, "Is That All There Is." There's so much interesting stuff left for season 2. This show rightfully deserved a renewal because of the amazing cast, interesting storyline, good dialogues, and stylish overall presentation. I won't say the finale was awesome; it was just a normal, good last episode. It didn't have those shocking, interesting moments that stick in your head but was still a good watch.
Overall, a must-watch show. Hoping for an even better season 2.
Hacks: Bulletproof (2024)
Not believable but interesting!
I literally quit Hacks after season 1 because I found it average. Months after Hacks released its third season, I decided to give it another try and was shocked by how much they had increased the quality, the drama, and the comedy. I loved the second season, and even the third season didn't disappoint. It's super fun when a comedy show is binge-worthy and has so much engaging content.
Coming to this episode, despite the high ratings, I didn't find the ending believable. The problem was that what happened didn't feel realistic; it seemed more like a dramatic sequence designed to ensure the network would renew the show. When Ava found out about the lie, the story became interesting, and that scene was shocking, but what happened afterward didn't seem right or believable. It could have been presented in a much better way. Although what happened in the end will stick in my mind for a very long time, I have seen this scene on repeat, and it will make season 5 an interesting watch. But I hope it stays consistent. They shouldn't make everything happy and good just after a few episodes. I love the cast, especially Hannah, and hope to see her in other shows and movies. Overall, it's one of the best comedy shows streaming right now and a must-watch.
Sunny (2024)
First Two Episodes Review!
Just finished the first two episodes. The first episode was average, which I thought might be because of the introduction and buildup, so I expected the second episode to be better, but I found it boring. This show is trying too hard to look clever with the side stories and sci-fi stuff, but many aspects don't make sense, like the robot (Sunny) remembering something and saying it had a dream. Since when can robots dream? I am not sure if they mentioned which year they are living in. I didn't find the show engaging or the characters likable. I might wait for all the episodes to be released to watch the remaining ones. The things that I found good were: the duration of each episode is 35 minutes, the robot is super awesome, especially its voice which is so cute, and Rashida was a good choice for the lead role. I will be skipping it as it's not that interesting, and I didn't like the second episode.
Trying: Scott of the Atlantic (2024)
Renew it for season 5!
I watched the first season because I liked the theme song, the lead actors, and the show was watchable. I watched the second season because it was getting better, and the last episode of the second season was when the quality really started improving and has never declined since. The third season was so good that I wanted the show to end because I thought they wouldn't be able to maintain such high quality, but shockingly they did it again. The fourth season might have been even better than the third. The finale episode was engaging and entertaining-not the best, but still super good, especially the ending. Now, I actually want a fifth season of this show, even if they call it the final season. I really liked the princess character; that actress did an amazing job, and the whole cast is awesome. I missed Robyn Cara, who played the character Jen. I hope they bring her back in season 5 if it happens. Although I didn't want a cliffhanger ending like they did, at least it gives me hope for another season. Overall, it's one of the best comedy shows that Apple Plus has right now and is a must-watch.
My Lady Jane (2024)
I really wanted to like it!
When I started the episode, the first thing I looked at was the duration. I don't know why, but in recent shows, they are obsessed with making 45+ minute dramas. Every other show is like that, no matter if they have any actual story or not. No one is free enough to watch such long TV shows. Can't we just watch a movie instead of 2-3 episodes? Also, the show is trying very hard to be funny, but it's not unless your age is less than 15. I couldn't watch the full episode; I thought it would be funny and interesting like The Great or Dickinson, but it is not. The cast and the location are good, but I don't think just using bad language in a historical show makes it funny. The comedy should be on point and it should feel natural. Also, who thought to add supernatural elements to a historical show? I mean, characters can turn into animals, really? Why don't you just make flying people and add some robots and dinosaurs to make it completely crazy? I am not saying the minutes of the first episode I watched were bad or dull, but I have seen similar shows and this wasn't interesting enough to watch for 50 minutes and 8 more episodes of similar duration.
Overall, if the duration had been 30-35 minutes and the show had been funnier and more interesting, I would have watched the full series. But I don't think it's for me. Maybe I will try again, but for now, I'm skipping it.
Kalki 2898-AD (2024)
Worth the hype?
Just came back from watching it in a houseful theatre. I faced this issue with the second part of Baahubali as well: in the beginning, they add cringe comedy and super boring scenes, but as soon as they're done with the buildup, the movie gets better.
The same is true for this film. In the first half, there are plenty of bad jokes, the first action scene with Prabhas is so stretched and badly done, the item song and Diljit's song in the BGM in the dystopian setting felt unnecessary, the VFX shots are below average, and Prabhas tries to copy Govinda. Also, so many things in the movie reminded me of Star Wars, Dune, and Lord of the Rings.
But, in the second half, things get a lot better. The Mahabharata scenes are interesting, the VFX shots are improved, and the storyline becomes engaging. They ended it really well, and the climax was satisfying, making us wonder what will happen in the second half-probably more of Kamal Haasan, and that's a good thing. Amitabh Bachchan again proved that he's the best actor in Bollywood; he's kind of the main lead. Deepika looked stunning.
Overall, it's a nice watch for Prabhas fans, but others can also give it a chance if they liked the trailer.
Land of Women (2024)
Season 1 review!
I had no expectations from this show and didn't even know what it was about. The only thing that made me want to watch it was that I never miss any Apple Plus comedy shows. I like so many of them, like Trying, Dickinson, Platonic, Mythic Quest, etc. The story is interesting, and the cast is amazing, especially the lead actress. The show gave me a bit of a vibe of Bless This Mess and Schitt's Creek.
After such a long time, I saw a family drama this good! Even though the episodes are about 45 minutes long, they didn't feel stretched. I do think more episodes of 30 minutes would have been better. I've been wanting to watch a good Spanish drama, and I think this show is a good start for me.
When I started this show, I thought it was an English-language show with a few Spanish dialogues. But when I watched the first and second episodes, I found that many of the show's dialogues are in Spanish. Then I watched the third episode, which was almost entirely in Spanish, and the remaining episodes were also mostly in Spanish. This is the first show I've watched in a different language, fully dependent on subtitles. But I didn't mind because the episodes were fun to watch, and the cast was likable. The title didn't make sense to me at first, but they revealed in the third episode why the show's called "Land of Women."
Overall, this show has the right amount of comedy, romantic tension, and drama, making it an entertaining watch. It definitely deserves hype as it is one of the best family drama shows of 2024 and should be renewed for a second season, especially after that super fun finale and ending. This is a comedy show, so if you don't think too much logically, you will definitely love it! A must-watch!
Piramideu Geim (2024)
Must watch!
Positives:
This show's main focus is bullying, and they show it in an entertaining way while giving a good message on how to deal with it.
Despite the 10 episodes, each approx one hour long , the show is mostly engaging, and the editing is sharp in most of the episodes.
The cast is super awesome, especially the actresses who played Soo-ji and Ha-rin.
It's a binge-worthy show.
'Higher' song that plays during the intro and in between, enhances the experience of watching the show. Also, I like 'In the Dark' song that plays at the end.
It could be a good watch for fans of All of Us Are Dead.
The last scene did a good job setting up for season 2.
Negatives:
There's a lot, lot, lot of staring, which sometimes can bore the audience, like me, where the characters are just staring at each other without speaking.
If there had been eight episodes of about 30-45 minutes each, it would have been a better watch.
Episode 8 and Episode 10 have some overstretched and boring scenes. The finale episode (the 10th episode) wasn't that good or engaging. Also, I didn't get all the answers, especially the one related to the first scene in the show.
Overall, it's a must-watch show because of the amazing cast and interesting storyline. Ignore the negative points I shared and give this show a try, it might be the best show released this year. I hope it gets the hype it deserves and is renewed for season 2.
South Park: The End of Obesity (2024)
Cartman VS KFC
To be honest, I didn't know anything about semaglutide before watching this episode. After checking about it, I found that they showed everything kinda right and in a fun way. I like when they make the show Cartman-centric, showcasing all his bad sides. The good part is that this special has all five lead kids and Randy doing his crazy stuff like always.
I haven't heard any songs by Lizzo and don't know much about the cartoons of the sugary brands, but this episode was still fun for me.
Overall, it's a good, fun episode for South Park fans but probably not for Lizzo fans and Pakistani people.
I'm waiting for the 27th season of South Park. It's been more than a year-please just release it ASAP.
Young Sheldon: Memoir (2024)
The End...
I was never really crazy about this show, never waited for another episode or season, but I watched all of it because it was always good, except for a few episodes after the first one. This episode made me realize that I am not just losing one show but losing my favorite, The Big Bang Theory, again, especially because of the really good guest appearance of older Sheldon and Amy.
I am glad they didn't kill George Sr. Earlier and waited until the very end because he was one of the best characters. The reaction Sheldon gave after finding out his dad is dead was really touching; this actor is superb. Not just him, but the writers did a really good job as the reactions given by others matched their personalities and were not too dramatic or different.
They tried to add some comedy in the 13th episode, but it was tough, and it was noticeable, especially the crying of Sheldon's dad's friend, Wayne. I have seen many Chuck Lorre comedy shows, and I think this finale was better than the finales of his other shows like Mom, Bob Hearts Abishola, The Big Bang Theory, Two and a Half Men, etc. Overall, it was a really good finale, and I hope for some other The Big Bang Theory spinoffs in the future. There is still scope for Young Howard and Old Raj. I am unsure about the Young Sheldon spinoff but will definitely give it a try.
Bob Hearts Abishola: Find Your Bench (2024)
Three minutes of nostalgia saved the finale.
This season was better than the last, which was quite disappointing. I expected a lot from the finale episode, but it was pretty average and not very humorous. The episode was just about twenty minutes long, with the last few minutes being old memories of the show. It was shocking to see how much weight Bob has lost. Among Chuck Lorre's comedy shows, my favorite finales are, in order: Two and a Half Men, The Big Bang Theory, Mom, and then Bob Hearts Abishola. If the fourth season had been as good as this one, CBS might have given it a few more seasons. Overall, the finale episode is okay. I liked that Abishola came with her original off-screen haircut, Christina's daughter, Tunde's Mario mustache, the bench, etc. But, I didn't like that the episode was quite short, Goodwin's statement to Bob in the end, and Kemi and Chuck's food thing didn't fit well. I'd rate it 2.5/5.
Chucky: Final Destination (2024)
Season 3 Review
This episode has some really cool moments, but whenever you think it's good, now the old characters are at risk, and they may die but they never do. I mean, what is the point of watching when we know Chucky only kills the side characters or the characters introduced in the new season? He has no interest in killing the old characters; he just laughs when he comes near them, tells them he will kill, and kills the side characters. The show is interesting, but when nothing will ever happen to Chucky or the lead characters, then what's the point of watching it? It's kinda becoming like a sitcom where in the starting and middle they add some interesting things but it always ends on the same happy note; nothing happens. Also, the killings in the White House were shown as if Chucky had entered a normal big mansion in the 80s and was killing people because no matter who he kills, no one will ever think of checking the security cameras or doing anything about it. The last dialogue in this episode by Chucky is good. They should also work on the romantic drama between Jake and Devon; it's so cheesy and cringe. I don't think teenage people nowadays talk like they do. My favorite seasons in order: Season 2, Season 1, and Season 3. Overall, a nice time-pass show where, no matter how cool and violent the serial killer is, he respects the lead characters and never causes them any harm. 3/5.
Bade Miyan Chote Miyan (2024)
Heropanti 3
It took me a lot of time to select the seat while booking the ticket for this movie online, as the best seats were already booked by the producers. When I came to the hall, only 6 people other than me came, and it was the same action drama that we have seen many times in every other Bollywood action movie. I was expecting at least some good action and comedy from Akshay Kumar, but Tiger was doing most of the comedy, and his jokes were like, you're looking at me as if you're trying to right swipe with your eyes,...etc. I know Tiger's body is good, but that doesn't mean he has to wear a sleeveless vest in every other scene and in all of his movies. But why ? Audiences focus more on the actor's acting than their body. Also, the action scenes in the trailer looked really good, but in the movie it didn't work as without an interesting story, it's hard to even focus on the action when every other scene is nonsense. Overall, I will give this 1/5. Skip it.
Gisaengsu: Deo geurei (2024)
First episode review!
Positives:
- The concept is good. Although the first episode is long, it didn't feel too slow or boring.
- The lead character, the actress, is likable and makes you want to root for her survival.
Negatives:
- The episodes are 45 minutes or longer, with the first episode lasting 1 hour.
- Other than the lead character, there wasn't any character that I liked that much.
- I thought it would be as cool and amazing as "All of Us Are Dead," but it's not that engaging.
- The way they were talking about the parasite in the ending meeting of the first episode, the man who became a parasite at the start, and no one except the lead character reacted before it starts attacking, the parasite writing in the diary ( I mean really?), these things looked like a joke or lazy writing.
- After almost every few minutes, a new lead or side character is introduced, which could confuse the viewer.
- There are not even a few characters to root for, no romantic tension, no good action scenes, and the first episode didn't even end with a cliffhanger or something.
Overall, the first episode was average but for someone who hasn't watched many shows may even like this episode, to me, it was 2.25/5. Just because there are only 6 episodes and the lead character is likeable, I might complete it someday. It's not a bad show (based on the 1st episode); you can definitely give it a shot.
Extraordinary: Well, Goodbye Forever (2024)
Awesome ending
This episode was the best one in this season; the ending was really engaging, and the last scene was so awesome. They have no option but to renew this show now because the characters, the story, everything is going fine. There are some scenes that don't make sense, but it's always entertaining. I think instead of 8 episodes a year, they should release 8 seasons a year if the producers have that superpower or something. Maybe the first season was better, but anyways, couldn't wait for another season. Renew and release it soon, please. Or hire the lead actress of this in more comedy shows. Must watch !!
Ghosts: A Christmas Gift (2023)
A Christmas Gift to the audience!
This episode had some really good moments, a feel-good vibe, and a nice ending. However, it wasn't perfect due to avoidable problems, like the shadow of the ghost in the video camera and the ghosts visible in the mirrors hanging in the house. The baby woke up when ghosts sang to her. It's puzzling why other ghosts didn't disappear after one went to the afterlife, even after many years. Also, the finale should have focused only on the main lead characters of the show, instead of bringing in Mike's mom, even though she performed well. I don't know why these issues were there-perhaps slightly lazy writing or direction? Anyway, it's always fun to see Charlotte Ritchie and other characters.
The characters in this show were so good that I'm unable to watch the American version, not getting used to the actors in that show.
Overall, a nice Christmas episode with some small issues, but many, including me, will miss the show.
Extended Family (2023)
Extended Nonsense!
Just because I liked Jon's character in "Two and a Half Men," I was excited to watch this show and had been waiting for it. Although I didn't like the trailer, I still thought maybe Jon Cryer would make it watchable, but he couldn't.
Positives: Jon Cryer is trying a lot to be funny, and sometimes it works. Even the Julia character is good, and the starting dialogues, along with the reverse wedding thing, were fine.
Negatives: I didn't like Trey's character, as he is one of the leads, so they should have created a better character and done casting accordingly. Also, I don't understand why they chose both male lead characters to be bald. Not that I have a problem with bald people, but I'm confused about this type of casting choice.
In the first episode, Jon's character, Jim, said many times that "I am joking," and the laughter track was going on nonstop, yet nothing was funny. They made the entire first episode on the goldfish. Also, this talking to the audience and telling us how fun and awesome divorce is was stupid; they should have just let us watch the show rather than providing commentary and character interviews.
When I came to know about the story of this show, it felt somewhat similar to "Splitting Up Together," and I must say that show is way better than this one. If you haven't watched that show, try it; you will love Season 1, especially. Even if this show was released in the '90s, I don't think it would have worked. I am skipping it.
Salaar: Part 1 - Ceasefire (2023)
Slowaar part 1
After the big success of KGF, I had high hopes for this movie. I went to the morning show and was surprised at how long and boring it turned out to be. First, bring a torch because the movie is quite dark. Second, you don't need to bring your brain as every action scene is nonsensical. The lead actor beats others who then fly and bounce on the floor after getting hit. The first half has a lot of buildup about Deva, creating frustration before Prabhas's entry. The second half is incredibly boring with too many forgettable characters, making it hard to sit through in the theater. Overall, it's a three-hour-long, boring, slow-paced film with bad and funny Hindi dubbing. Avoid it. Skip it.
Frasier: Reindeer Games (2023)
Roz deserved a way better episode!
I was really excited for this episode because of three things: it's a season finale, it's Christmas-themed, and most importantly, there is a guest appearance by Roz Doyle. Although the episode was fine, they really need to reduce the laughter track; there are far too many, and it's annoying when the scene is not funny. Also, there should be some good side characters and a funny recurring character. Now, the main cast looks better than it was in the beginning, and Alan is the best new addition to this Frasier universe. Anyways, talking about this episode, they really wasted Roz. She looked great, and her dialogue delivery was still super awesome, but she came almost at the end with very few dialogues. Those watching for Roz would be highly disappointed. Roz shouldn't have even been in this episode; she deserved way more respect and screen time. It was one of the worst guest appearances of a really good actor, and it wasn't her fault. I hope they still renew this show, bring in Niles and others, but give them some respect in their guest appearance role.
Animal (2023)
Too long!!
After the long wait, my friends and I went to the morning show of this movie, and the theater was packed. I was excited to watch it because I liked the trailer, but despite the interesting first half and a great scene before intermission, the entire cast started doing nonsensical things after the break. It seemed like the director instructed them to do anything imaginable to bore the audience until the climax scene, which was somewhat good. Despite the cast's performances, I found this movie extremely skippable. Rashmika was improving, Bobby Deol deserved more screen time, and Ranbir Kapoor's performance deserved a better film. Overall, it's not worth your time. While the background music makes it somewhat watchable, I still recommend skipping it. You might as well go to the zoo and watch a real animal; you'll be done in 1-2 hours, rather than spending more than almost 3 hours and 30 minutes watching this unnecessarily violent, misogynist, low on story cheap adult film with mediocre action and far too many nonsense scenes.
Bookie (2023)
Boooring!!
I couldn't watch it for more than 5 minutes because even the initial 5 minutes felt like they started without any buildup. They were talking to clients and family without mentioning the point behind it. It was like walking into a call center where a guy is picking up calls repeatedly from different people, and with so many TV show options, I'll skip it for now. Too dull and boring for me. I like Chuck Lorre shows, but I don't think this one is for me as the characters are not likable, the show feel is not good. It's more like a gangster comedy drama, so I don't think I will be able to watch the full episode anytime soon.
Koffee with Karan: Sidharth Malhotra and Varun Dhawan (2023)
Cheap Karan!
I have watched all five episodes, and so far, the first was the best. This, second and the fourth were fine, but the third was the worst because Sara was too rude and annoying after the rapid fire. In this episode, both the quiz and rapid fire were fun to watch. Both did really well in the rapid fire round. The only bad thing in the quiz round was Karan Johar being cheap. Even though both performed really well and deserved a gift each, Karan decided not to give anyone, stating it is too expensive, and he will keep it. Also it was revealed that Karan doesn't even pay or give anything to the live audience judging the rapid fire round. He says he loves both of them and Alia, but he would rather take the gift than give it to any of them.
