Deadpool & Wolverine (2024)
Finally, Wolverine wears the yellow outfit.
The team up that we didn't think would come, but now it's here finally. Ryan Reynolds still brings the satire that we love about Deadpool, and Hugh Jackman returning as Wolverine, wearing the yellow outfit from the comics. And those two together is the fun on screen odd couple since Hobbs and Shaw (2019).
It has a great multiverse plot, not to mention there are so many Marvel characters guest stars, some you won't see coming. But it does have heart to it, and Reynolds and Jackman do play that pretty well also. You can't help but to just sit back and have fun, if you love Deadpool, I believe you'll have a blast here.
Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F (2024)
The old gang returns
Axel Foley (Eddie Murphy) gets a call from Billy Rosewood (Judge Reinhold) in Beverly Hills and is told that his estranged daughter Jane (Taylor Paige) who is a lawyer, is in danger. Axel takes a flight over there. Will Axel help Jane before it's too late?
Eddie Murphy brings back the comedic magic that he had when first Axel In the first film. The film balances the comedy, action, and suspense very well. Some scenes with music are callbacks to the other films, and at the same time it stands on its own. Although Eddie Murphy is a joy to watch, he never hogs the spotlight form the other cast, like Judge Reinhold, John Ashton, Paul Reiser, Bronson Pinchot, Kevin Bacon, and Joesph Gordon -Levitt.
Twisters (2024)
A fun sit through
Is it a sequel to Twister (1996), well in a way, it was one little reference to the 1996 film, but other than that it's pretty much its own film.
The effects are every bit as good as the original. The effects of the tornado are intense. Actors Daisy Edgar Jones, Glenn Powell, Anthony Ramos all play there parts very well, just enjoyable playing off each other perfectly. The emotions they feel after a tragedy is played very real. Maura Tierney is quite a scene stealer as Jones mother. I love the competition between the storm chasers, and rushing to get the tornado. But also trying to save people from the storm.
Fly Me to the Moon (2024)
Channing Tatum and Scarlett Johansson surprisingly click.
Is this movie based on a true story, well not quite, mostly based on a rumor. The parts that are true are the NASA crew preparing for the moon landing in 1969, the parts that are based rumors, are the scenes with Channing Tatum and Scarlett Johansson.
I wasn't sure, by they both had surprisingly chemistry, they really capture the look of the 60's so well. The setting really makes you feel like it's 1969, Ray Romano and Woody Harrelson are also good in there supporting roles. I really like the film balances the comedy and drama out perfectly. Channing Tatum proves he's a good actor, just give the write script.
Horizon: An American Saga - Chapter 1 (2024)
Well done epic western
A three hour film, and this is only the first part, not sure if I will the second part, but I must say, this was entertaining, although longer than it needed to be, but still a good film.
Kevin Costner directs and stars in this epic, where different stories take place in the same area. The western setting really is quite a character in itself. Shoot out scenes are realistic not glorified in any way, it's feeling every bit as real to the bone. Kevin Costner is great, so is Michael Rooker, Luke Wilson, Sam Worthington, and Siena Miller. If you are not into a three hour films, then you should avoid it, but if you like a good western, then give this a look.
Supacell (2024)
Heroes meets Attack the Block
People who don't have anything in common, but they all have superpowers, I'm sure this premise sounds familiar.
But the story is entertaining, each character has there own story ark, and different powers, and they must all come together to fight an unknown evil. The acting is done well, ordinary people all have powers, not knowing how or why, play it very realistic. The effects are in top form, the moments when you know when there about to use there powers, eyes change color when the moment comes, and it's pretty awesome. I hope this show will last awhile, it's one of those shows that ends when you wanting more.
Kalahari (2024)
Beast (2022) did it better.
The scenery and Ryan Phillippe's performance are the only reason I'm not giving it a lower rating.
South Africa scenery becomes a character itself, but the film itself is just a poor example of showing of people surviving a plane crash is not too well played, the actors like Mena Suvari seems a bit confused on how play her character, seems like too many scenes was cut out, and aren't giving a enough time to spend with her. And Emile Hirsch tries to hard to play his antihero character, maybe in his case less would have been better. Ryan Phillippe is only one in the cast who plays his character just right and very real. Some scenes with the lions are good, but other than that this film is forgettable, go watch Beast (2022) instead.
Trigger Warning (2024)
Jessica Alba has got the eye of the tiger.
Parker (Jessica Alba) who's in the special forces, gets a call from her hometown, and is told that her father has died. She goes home for the funeral, but believes that he was murdered, and starts an investigation, and realizes that nothing is what it seems.
Jessica Alba is enjoyable at kicking butt and taking names. The fight choreography is incredible here, because it so intense and real. Action acenes are pretty good also. Now Jessica Alba is only good thing here, not many of the other actors come across interesting enough. But the movie is still an entertaining fun, at times it feels like some those films from the 70's like Billy Jack (1971) and Walking Tall (1973).
Bad Boys: Ride or Die (2024)
The action-comedy magic is back.
Martin Lawrence and Will Smith still have the chemistry like they did when they the first Bad Boys, and although they are not as young as they once were they magic is still there.
Mike and Marcus discover that evidence has link to their deceased mentor captain, saying he was involved with a petty criminal. Both set out to prove he is innocent, but both become marked for death, will they be able will to stay alive?
Still enjoyable like the last one, the actors playing the bad guys are also good. Action scenes are also great, keeps you the edge of your seat. I was wondering is Lawrence and Smith scenes where improvised.
Atlas (2024)
The special effects are the only thing good here.
Atlas is trying to be The Terminator, Pacific Rim, Ghost in the Shell all in one mutation, and it does succeed at that part. It's enjoyable to the point, you enjoy seeing descent effects since Avatar, but in that you have also get good performances, but you really don't get that with Atlas.
Now Jennifer Lopez is a good actress, but her performance here just too over the top, like she hasn't slept for a week, the moment where she is trying to dramatic, but in spots it comes across too satirical. Even her arguments with the A. I., it just goes on too long. Even the bad guy character is not in it much, to the point where I didn't him find interesting, and there is a robot battle towards the end, reminds me I seen better battles in Iron Man and Blue Beetle.
The Acolyte (2024)
Agreed it is flawed, but still entertaining.
Has long history of being a Star Wars fan, I must say The Acolyte does deliver in many ways. Tells an interesting story, many years before Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, Han Solo, Obi Wan Kenobi, and Darth Vader.
Action scenes are well shot, and the effects are well delivered. I like the idea trying not to be a retelling of the other films, but to be it's own story. Now the things that I found unbelievable is the fact Carrie Ann-Moss character was killed off in the first episode, I was disappointed, it would seem she would have a bigger role, and the acting at times is hit or miss. But I only watched the first two episodes, I hope it will great by more episodes, and hopefully more surprises along the way.
Unfrosted (2024)
Unfrosted will probably go down as it's so bad it's good.
Jerry Seinfeld can be funny, but only if he doesn't write his own jokes, and this movie is a prime example of that, because he directed and co-wrote it.
The movie throws so many cliche jokes at you that are not funny, just makes you say "What". You have so many talented people in this and do very little has possible like Amy Schumer and Hugh Grant to name a few. But in spots it was entertaining, I like the 60's look to it, there were a few moments that made me smirk a bit. It's not all that funny, but it is entertainingly bad, Unfrosted is a movie you have to see to believe. If you like those type of movies than Unfrosted is that movie for you.
Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga (2024)
An enjoyable look at Furiosa origins.
It's almost as good has Mad Max: Fury Road (2015), going back to the story Furiosa, and how she became the fearless warrior, and the wasteland of a ruined society.
The movie in spots can slow down a bit, but when action scenes come, believe me they really come. Anya Taylor -Joy fills the shoes of Furiosa quite perfectly, so did the actress playing Furiosa as a young girl. Chris Hemsworth steals the movie has Dementus, think of his character from Bad Times at the El Royale dialed to an 11, you can see he is having the most fun. The movie gets the action scenes, it makes you forget how long it is.
Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes (2024)
What I was not expecting, I'm glad what I got.
I admire the fact that it takes place about several decades after the events of the last Planet of The Apes movie, so it becomes it's own movie while being in the same universe.
The ape effects are terrific, the actors playing the apes really bring them to life, really showing them as more than just apes. The human characters are also good, and the scenery is a character in it's own right. When these characters go on the journey, and we the audience go on it with them. It's up there with DUNE 1 and 2, and Avatar: The Way of Water, when it comes to incredible sci-fi epics. Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes is right up there with those.
IF (2024)
After seeing this, I believe that John Krasinski could be the next Spielberg.
IF is for kids and adults, kids will like it for the animations and the idea of having there own IF, and it will make adults feel like kids again making them remember what it was like.
Actors Cailey Fleming, Ryan Reynolds, Fiona Shaw, and John Krasinski (who also wrote and directed) are all great in there performances, but also sharing credits with the animation making the characters comes to life, also with voices of the late great Louis Gossett Jr, Steve Carrell, and Phoebe Waller Bridge. Do pretty well also. John Krasinski has the writer and director is quite fun, giving a Spielberg like feel for it.
The Fall Guy (2024)
Everything that CHIPS(2017) should have been, enjoyable.
We all remember the 1980's series The Fall Guy starring Lee Majors, Heather Thomas, Douglas Barr, story about a Hollywood stunt man and his team who has second job as a bounty hunter, it had action, humor, and a heart to it.
I admire the way the movie does try to be a carbon copy of the original series, pretty much does it's own thing. Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt are just an awesome match, they just click incredibly. The movie is an action movie, and at the same a satire of an action movie. Chase scenes are fun, really keep on the edge of your seat. I had an enjoyable time with The Fall Guy, then I did with CHIPS (2017).
Dead Boy Detectives (2024)
Ghostbusters, The Sixth Sense, Supernatural, and Stranger Things all in one mutation.
Two teenage ghosts from different decades team up to help other ghosts from evil entities. One day after saving a possessed girl, discover that she is a psychic, and can see them, deciding to help them on there cases.
A good blend of horror and comedy, the cast all play off each other very well, the effects are top notch also. I also like the way you get a feeling for the characters are feeling, and at times it's difficult to watch. Every time it ends, you wonder what happens next. I think if you liked Supernatural and Stranger Things then I hope you will give this show a look, I hope it will last awhile.
Challengers (2024)
Sometimes in the world of tennis, there is tension on and off the court.
This is an odyssey of filmmaking, where the timeline jumps around a lot, now that can annoying to watch, but works for this film, cause it shows the story slowly unfolding.
The story takes between the early 2000s and 2024, between a tense love triangle between three tennis players, who are played Zendaya, Mike Faist and Josh O' Conner and winning on and off the court.
The actors play there parts quite well, and times they don't always come across as likable, but honest and human for the most part. The tennis matches are fun and suspenseful, keeps you on the edge of your seat. It's a film I can't bring myself to see again, for me once is enough.
The Greatest Hits (2024)
Amusing tale of love, loss, and time travel.
Harriet ( Lucy Boynton ) a woman who is still grieving over the loss of her boyfriend Max ( David Corenswet ), was killed two years ago in a car accident, still having trouble coping, but meets a nice guy named David (Justin H. Min ), and slowly starts to come out of her shell. But soon something else starts to come over on Harriet, she discovers every time she listens to a certain song, it suddenly brings her back to a certain in her life, also with Max. So will Lucy move forward or change the past?
An amusing idea, that unfortunately doesn't do much with it. And David Corenswet has Max, really is just kind of there, I didn't feel we got know his character well enough, and I didn't see myself rooting for him and Boynton. Now Lucy Boynton really was great here as a grieving woman, you really feel for her and want her to be happy, and she and Justin Min had better chemistry, I found myself rooting for them more.
The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare (2024)
Guy Ritchie Succeeds where Quentin Taratino failed.
The film is based on a true story, but in movies like this I can say very loosely. I really believe that this true story is mainly the inspiration for The Dirty Dozen(1967).
Set in 1942, a group of misfits, each one with their talent are recruited to stop a bunch of Nazi submarines during World War 2. But will this mission be carried out?
Guy Ritchie brings good action and drama, also a fun aspect here, something I felt Quentin Taratino failed to do with his World War 2 film. The actors Henry Cavil, Alan Richson, Til Schweiger, and Eiza Gonzalez to name a few, really shine here, so does the other cast.
Civil War (2024)
A disturbing look on how are society could be.
Alex Garland directs a masterpiece of society going to war, what we do to survive. A couple of journalists take a trip to D. C. , but getting there will be struggle to stay alive.
It's quite unsettling to sit through, but when the humorous moments come, also great moments. Kirsten Dunst really surprised me here, as a world weary photographer. Caliee Spaeny is great as a young photographer, who's in her twenties, but here looks like a teenager. The environment here is shown here to be like you don't know what is jumping out at you. Jesse Plemons is great in a small role, even though it's not a big role, but leaves quite an impact on you.
Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire (2024)
Tops the last one.
A group of scientists uncover a mystery about Skull Island, and must unravel it before a situation with Godzilla and Kong get out of hand.
An enjoyable monster verse film, I mean I like the way it tries to humanize Godzilla and Kong, and the effects are always great. But I admire the way the film doesn't spend too much time on Godzilla and Kong, cause Rebecca Hall, Brian Tyler Henry, and Dan Stevens all have there moments to shine, and they are every bit as enjoyable has the monsters. Dan Stevens steals every scene he's in, won't be surprised if he gets his own spin off movie. The monster fights are also great.
Irish Wish (2024)
Amusing by Lindsay Lohan and Ed Speleers charm.
Irish Wish tries to be in the same vein, has such movies like My Best Friend's Wedding (1997) and Maid of Honor (2008), and it almost gets there to a point.
A magical wish gives Maddie (Lindsay Lohan) an editor, a chance to marry the man of her dreams, but is this life she always wanted?
I enjoyed the view of Ireland, makes you feel like your there, and the chemistry between Lindsay Lohan and Ed Speleers is enjoyable, they just play off each other perfectly, just really click. And both of there charming performances is what keeps the movie interesting. But that's about it, everybody else in the film are just null and void, there kind of there nothing more. Jane Seymour has Lohan's mom, does not bring interest here.
Monkey Man (2024)
John Wick has got nothing on Monkey Man.
Mysterious young man (Dev Patel) who fights wearing a monkey mask in an underground fight club, but has secret quest for revenge against an organization that took away his childhood, but will he grow through with his mission for revenge?
Dev Patel directorial debut is incredible, shows the dark elements of environment. And acting has the main lead, showing a man whose bubble is going to burst. Fight scenes are awesome and real. And the action comes, it really comes, enough to put others to shame. I really like how the story slowly starts to reveal itself has it goes along. The bad characters are also good, really enjoy hating them.
Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire (2024)
Most of the magic is half there.
Ghostbusters: Afterlife was great, heck I even like the 2016 Ghostbusters although a good majority of y'all didn't. And how did I feel about Frozen Empire?
I do like some call backs to the original, and the effects don't disappoint either. I do like the original cast do comeback for nostalgia, and Mckenna Grace, Finn Wolfhard, and Logan Kim are enjoyable. My biggest problem is the humor, it's trying so hard to be funny and expecting me to laugh to the point where I wasn't. And let's forget Carrie Coon, who played a character in Afterlife, but here looks so bored and being uninterested, almost like she is sleepwalking through this, and Paul Rudd, who I usually like in anything, but here he comes across as dull, everything he says is unfunny, like he's doesn't know what he's talking about.
