This film is the reason why Japanese versions of Japanese IP will always be superior to Hollywood remakes. The story telling and emotional connection brought by this movie was something I was truly shocked by as it was far deeper than I had expected even though I had seen a few reviews prior to seeing the movie.
It did something that Hollywood has constantly failed to do with its' monster movie; Godzilla -1.0 actually made you care about the actors in it. They weren't just there to add in some dialogue, they were the movie.
The Godzilla look itself was true to the Japanese version of Godzilla with a very modern update. The reactive spine looked amazing right before Godzilla shoots off his super weapon. And the destruction it created was a sight to behold.
This is a movie that deserves to be seen on a big screen but if you're waiting for it to come out on video or streaming; make a night of it and make sure you have a sound system that can handle it.
