ARLINGTON, Texas (KCTV) – Kansas City Royals star shortstop Bobby Witt Jr. will compete in the Home Run Derby at the 2024 MLB All-Star Game later this month.

The Kansas City slugger announced the news on social media Monday.

Witt leads the Royals with 15 home runs through 92 games.

He’ll take part in his first All-Star game alongside three of his teammates Tuesday, July 16 at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas.

The 24-year-old grew up in Colleyville – roughly a 30-minute drive from Arlington.

The Home Run Derby takes place the night before the Midsummer Classic. Fans can watch Witt compete at 7 p.m. on July 15.

Catcher Salvador Perez is the most recent Royal to take part in the competition in 2021. Perez hit 28 out of the park in the first round that year, setting a club record.
