SAN ANTONIO – After announcing last week that retailers and malls could begin offering curbside service, Governor Abbott literally opened the doors for malls and retailers this week. Stores will be allowed to open Friday as long as they maintain only 25% occupancy and follow distancing guidelines.
Simon -- the biggest mall owner in the country -- will reopen 49 of its properties, including two San Antonio-area malls on Friday. Simon owns Ingram Park Mall and San Marcos Premium Outlets. The properties have implemented new safety protocols that you can read about by clicking here.
North Star Mall and The Shops at La Cantera will reopen on Tuesday, May 5. The malls will be open from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday-Saturday and from noon to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday. The food court seating areas will remain closed. Food court tenants that choose to reopen will be available for carryout only.
The mall has added hand-sanitizing stations, touch-free interactions, frequent and intense cleanings and social distancing directions, according to a public relations specialist with Brookfield Properties.
South Park Mall is “still waiting on a corporate decision on reopening" and has not made an announcement as of Tuesday evening, general manager Christina Crouch told KSAT.
Rolling Oaks Mall will not reopen Friday but will share their plans soon.
The property manager at Alamo Quarry Market said several retailers there are offering curbside pickup and more retailers are expected to open for business over the next week.

The coronavirus pandemic has closed in-store shopping for weeks in Texas, but stores can now begin selling retail to-go.
Gov. Greg Abbott announced last week that stores can sell curbside starting Friday in a first step toward reopening the Texas economy, which was been severely impaired by social distancing orders.
Customers can either order online and choose to pick up in-store or call retailers directly. Malls suggest calling specific retailers for additional information on curbside service.
Here are stores and malls now offering pickup in San Antonio:
Ingram Park Mall: Curbside hours are 11 a.m.-7 p.m. Monday through Saturday and noon-6 p.m. on Sunday.
The pickup locations are by service court No. 2 and light pole No. 18 near H&M. The Dillard’s pickup location will be at their service court near H&M.
Designated parking spaces will have signs with each space numbered, according to the mall’s website. Customers must call the designated store’s phone number for pickup. For additional information, call the store directly.

Rolling Oaks Mall: General manager Ruffin Moore said hours will be 11 a.m.-7 p.m. daily, but hours may vary by store.
He added individual tenant participation will vary, and customers can stay updated on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.

- Vitamin World: Tuesday through Saturday, in parking stalls 1-10 between Nike and The Gap Outlet
South Park Mall: General manager Christina Couch said the mall is allowing tenants to open for to-go from 11 a.m.-7 p.m. Monday through Saturday and noon-6 p.m. on Sunday. The mall doors will still remain closed to the public.
But, she said, no stores other than Chili’s and Dick’s Sporting Goods have confirmed that they will offer curbside service. Those two stores have their own exteriors exits.
“I’d expect more stores will be trickling in next week, but for right now, it’s pretty quiet here. Once more stores start coming in, there will be a designated entrance assigned as needed,” she said.
COVID-19, the respiratory disease caused by the new virus, stands for coronavirus disease 2019. The disease first appeared in late December 2019 in Wuhan, China, but spread around the world in early 2020, causing the World Health Organization to declare a pandemic in March. The first case confirmed in the U.S. was in mid-January and the first case confirmed in San Antonio was in mid-February.
