San Antonio organizations sending food, water and supplies to help families impacted by Hurricane Ida

San Antonio Food Bank also ready to help hurricane evacuees if they head to San Antonio

SAN ANTONIO – As the people in Louisiana begin the long road to getting back to normal after Hurricane Ida, San Antonio organizations are joining others across the country by sending food and supplies to help.

A San Antonio food truck filled with water, snacks, fruit and cleaning supplies headed to Louisiana on Tuesday.

“We’re going to be positioning this truck in Lafayette, and then that will trickle into other parishes that were impacted by the storm,” said Eric Cooper, president of the San Antonio Food Bank.

Cooper said many families in Louisiana are still without water and stores were impacted.

He said if hurricane evacuees head to San Antonio, the agency will be ready to help.

“When we had Hurricane Harvey, so many people around the world sent support to Texas. During the winter storm, again, neighbors, neighboring states, families all over the country worried about us, sending food and supplies. Now it’s our turn to pay it back,” Cooper said.

The San Antonio Salvation Army also sent a team to Louisiana.

“We’ll be able to offer three meals a day to not just displaced residents, but first responders and any volunteers that are on site out there,” said Brad Mayhar, public relations manager for San Antonio Salvation Army. “We also offer spiritual care. A Salvation Army officer who is traveling can offer spiritual care, prayer for anyone who would like to have that.”
