GALVESTON, Texas – There was a gruesome scene in Galveston Sunday morning after someone reportedly found headless animal carcasses on the beach, according to police.
Galveston Animal Control was called to the area, across the street from the Galveston Island Convention Center, around 6:30 a.m. after someone found headless carcasses of goats, chickens and a pigeon, KSAT’s sister station in Houston, KPRC, reports.

Galveston police said they believe the animals were part of a Santeria ceremony, which involves animal sacrifice for religious purposes.
It’s unknown if any criminal charges will stem from the incident.
Police said this isn’t the first time they’ve been called to that beach for this type of incident and those involved could face animal cruelty charges or charges for not properly disposing of the remains.
