Alamo Colleges provides emergency winter weather financial support to students
SAN ANTONIO – Alamo College officials are offering emergency financial support and resources to students affected by last week’s winter storm. The Alamo Colleges Foundation established a “Winter Weather Impact Fund,” which is meant to offer more support than the Student Impact Fund. Anyone can help donate to the fund to help support students. Mike Flores, Alamo Colleges chancellor, said that supporting students means moving beyond providing help in the classroom. Alamo Colleges police officer dies from COVID-19, officials say
SAN ANTONIO – A second Alamo Colleges District employee has died from the coronavirus, according to officials. DPS Officer Jose Buso has succumbed to the virus, as announced by officials on Friday. It is with a heavy heart that we share the reported passing of Alamo Colleges Police Officer Jose A. Buso from COVID-19.... Alamo Colleges offers aid to students struggling to make ends meet
Gmez sits on the Board of Directors as the Alamo Colleges Student Trustee to help develop communication between students and the board. Gmez worked to educate students on resources available to them to make ends meet through the Alamo Colleges Foundation. Students such as Alejandra Gmez have received hundreds of dollars from Alamo Colleges' COVID-19 Student Impact Fund. I think that things like that are incredibly important for the mission that they have here at Alamo Colleges. Artist designs a love letter to San Antonio to raise money for students
SAN ANTONIO Martha Martnez-Flores was born in Chicago and raised in San Luis Potos, Mxico, but has called San Antonio home for the last 20 years. Martnez-Flores is the owner and creative director of MMCreative, a creative consulting studio whose work is featured all across San Antonio. Martha Martnez-Flores, owner and creative director of MM Creative is selling what she calls a love letter to San Antonio in order to raise funds for students in need. Then you have a nod to the cowboy culture (with a cowboy hat), the veladora (or candle thats) in the West Side of San Antonio, Martnez-Flores said. The design was first published in San Antonio Magazine, but Martnez-Flores wanted to give lovers of San Antonio a chance to have the real thing at home.
Most Alamo Colleges students will learn remotely, according to fall plan
SAN ANTONIO – If you’re a student at the Alamo Colleges this Fall you should expect to stay home and learn as most classes are expected to be held remotely. The Alamo Colleges released plans for students who are enrolled for the 2020 Fall semester as the coronavirus pandemic continues globally and, except for career, technical and some arts and sciences courses that may require face-to-face learning, students won’t be returning to the classroom. Texas A&M System to offer free COVID-19 testing to students, faculty and staffLevel 5 will go into effect November 26 and remain until the end of Fall 2020. “We have worked collaboratively across the district and disciplines, and among all levels of the organization, to develop a plan to begin a slow and careful return to campuses,” Alamo Colleges District Board Chair Marcelo Casillas said. College Graduates 2020: Brittanie Rivas
SAN ANTONIO St. Philips College is celebrating the accomplishments of graduate and Army veteran, Brittanie Rivas. Rivas enrolled at the East Side campus as her first step towards helping others. During her time at St. Philips, Rivas accomplished another dream: starting a family. Through the help of professors, Rivas was able to adjust to a new standard to earn her pre-nursing degree from St. Philips College. Army veteran, Brittanie Rivas, enrolled at St. Philips College to pursue a degree focus on helping others.
