Building in buffers has worked best for us. We include 2 iterations after our draft submission in our base proposal and leave in a 1 week buffer period to make the changes. This takes of the pressure from the operations team and helps them serve the Client better.

Ask for help! Yes, Clients do understand that the last minute changes cause a lot of stress on the Consultant. Most often, when asked for a helping hand, they willingly offer and really appreciate you for exploring all the avenues before pushing back on their request. The key is to know what to ask - it has to be something that is easy for them and difficult for you. This way you can optimize effort and meet the deadlines as a team!
