How can storytelling improve the sense of belonging in your content?

As humans we are hard-wired to form communities, to feel recognized, heard and appreciated. So it makes sense that content that is inclusive and participatory will help your brand, your page and your website. Creating a space that welcomes feedback, using words and phrases that resonate with your audience is how you create a feeling that these products/pages/services are their place, where they belong! They will then become advocates and brand ambassadors by interacting with the community, writing reviews and sharing positive feedback.

Simply put, storytelling evokes a sense of reliability in an audience, drawing them into your work. Say you bought a new house - so what? Thousands do each day. Only if you are on the bright side will your story impart an inspiration dopamine. Future: People love to understand your visions and aspirations. Use it to make a direct connection with the audience.

In my experience i have always seen stories connect deeper with audiences because they dont only attract interest but, also build relevance. Stories give us room to show multiple perspectives and build more than one characters. Like when you watch a movie or a play or read a book you instantly identify with one of the characters and those charcters then hold your attention, and your heart till the story ends. That’s what stories can do for branding too! Stories have always helped us navigate our world since times immemorial and continue to do so today. There’s no reason why that power will not grow phenomenally in the future. Tough times lay ahead for companies who refuse to see this and continue to compete only on product and price.

The hero's journey story is used in folk tales, and what I like about it are the REPETITIONS. The hero travels several times, each time on a more challenging quest. It's more subtle than a one-time journey. You begin to see the connections. Journey-1 has elements in it that cause Journey-2, and so on, until Journey-n. At some point, there needs to be a resolution, or the wrap-up that _might_ send the reader to the beginning. It depends on whether you want an never-ending story or not.

It's important not to labour it. Don't gild the lily. If people register that you're telling "a belonging" story it will, be definition, backfire. For some people it will backfire spectacularly. And avoid using "absolute adjectives" if you can. For example, if I say "I was sitting on my ugly, yellow sofa from MFI" it gives details and increases belonging, but by being too specific, I've turned off some of my audience - ugly is great, yellow is dangerous and MFI is downright risky! Anyone who's got a yellow sofa from MFI now feels excluded, instead of included, for the rest of your story, no matter how well you tell it.

Crafting storytelling content is a brilliant trait. I am not an expert storyteller, but stories should be very much detailed. It should have a flow. You should explain every element so that the audience can visualize the story and connect on a deeper level.

Storytelling is at the core of who we are as humans. There is no better medium for storytelling than podcasting.
