A budget is one in a series of steps towards achieving long-term growth strategies. So, while doing the budget projections, the vision and mission of the organization should be very clear to the budget maker. The budget should allocate resources for investing in new capacities, systems development, training etc. to ensure that long-term strategies can be achieved in a planned way.

Hence to achieve long term strategy - we need to start experimenting now a lot to strengthen our product portfolio and making our process efficient. While one side we are focusing on growth, on the other front we will always have risk of end of program. Thus strategy involves a lot of trial and error, continous evaluation, course correction, reallocation of resources and adjustment to plans. To align with the growth strategy, We need to allocate funds in the current budget for costs towards trial and error, execution of ideas, investment in research and experiments.

Participation of the stakeholders in the budgeting process is critical for making a comprehensive plan. It's important to know the vision and mission of the board as well as the immediate and short-term requirements and goals of different departments. An inclusive process will increase the stake of all concerned and help in getting useful insights. Going one step further, if we know about the plans of the customers and suppliers and take their feedback as well, there would be an all-round support for achieving the budgeted targets.
