I work on Drupal CMS which is a php based CMS, but the frontend in php frameworks is usually decoupled using frontend templating engines twig, similarly django used jinja & laravel used blade.. so it is also a good add-on to have the understanding of this frameworks

It's also useful to know how to use PHP to automate the web. Schedule tasks to handle the heavy lifting for your website, manage applications, and just overall keep things running while you're away! This all basically comes down to efficient scripting techniques and overall language mastery.

1) Learn a framework. Learn PHP by learning a framework, like Symfony or Laravel. As an exercise, use them to stand up a demo site of some kind. As a mid-career dev, you should be able to articulate an opinion about these frameworks. 2) Learn how to write unit tests, and testable code. As a mid-career dev, you should be able to talk about test coverage, cyclomatic complexity/CRAP, and know how to generate a coverage report. 3) If you interview somewhere as a PHP dev that doesn't ask you about testing, then you objectively know more than they do. That could signal a rough road, or it could be an opportunity.

Something I wish I knew earlier is that, MVC frameworks are ALL THE SAME and languages do not matter. Express.js, Laravel, Yii, .NET core are following the same rules and even the same naming convention for what you need to do. My company is using Yii 1 for backend, and I never spent any time on studying Yii 1, not even 1 min. However, because I understand how MVC works together from nodejs and laraval, I immediately became an Yii expert and all the tricky tickets go to me 😂

Learn what you need to learn for the project you're working on. Don't waste time learning all there is to know with any coding language, just learn the stuff that's going to get the project completed, and then build on what you've learnt for the next one.

I work in Golang predominantly and had absolutely no clue about the language and why someone would even prefer such a new coming language so soon. But with practice, I have gained an experience in understanding and reading the code in almost any language. So I think practice logical problem statements, figure out why a certain programming language is preferred for a use case you are using, and rest is just googling the syntax.
