Here's a lesser known strategy for you! In these times having real-time coaching support is invaluable! But chances are you may not feel like you have the disposable income at the moment to invest in coaching. So here's the hack! Type into LinkedIn search "free coaching" and "probono coaching". Filter for 'people' and appropriate job titles. There's a good chance you'll stumble across career coaches, like myself, who love offering free/pro bono support. It's how many of us market our services AND fill up our purpose-driven cup! There's absolutely no need to go at it alone! We all deserve and need a coach in our corner. Hope this helps! Layoffs are part of the professional journey. Your network is your best support during a layoff. Building network is an investment, and you need to wisely invest your time in building it over time. A strong network will inform you about jobs filled through referrals that aren't publicly advertised. A referral from someone who knows your skills and work ethic carries significant weight with potential employers, increasing your chances of selection. Your network will also provide you with valuable information about current trends, hiring freezes, or even open positions within their companies.

Build up an emergency fund prior to anything else. If you have a full six months worth of income in a savings account, that will give you six months to bounce back on your feet. Be proactive, not reactive.

It is important for personal growth that you reflect on the loss when you are made redundant. It is a transition into something new. So there is a difference between resigning and being made redundant. Some resignations can be painful, and so it is important, if you don't manage it yourself, to seek professional support in good time to accompany this process in order to become functional again as quickly as possible, so that you can reflect on what you want to take with you, what you can leave behind, and what you want to learn and reposition yourself on the labour market. It is important to have a positive attitude towards loss and that it is not the end of the world

In one of my previous companies, layoffs came unexpectedly. It was a lesson for me to always be prepared: keep my CV up-to-date, know the market, stay current with in-demand technologies and skills, have an emergency fund set up, maintain professional network connections, and be open to new opportunities. Each change closes some doors but always opens others. It's up to us to be ready to go through them when the time comes.
