Assigning a mentor or buddy can help new hires feel more integrated into the team. Maybe take 2-3 sessions a week regarding the company's values and culture could help them get a better understanding of the internal workings of an organization.

Ask open ended soft-skill questions in the interview process to gauge culture fit. My go-to interview questions are thought provoking and have no “right” answer. These questions evoke a reaction almost immediately, often laughter at first, then the thoughts roll in. My current favorite is, “how many jelly beans can you fit in a suitcase?” And my all-time favorite answer so far is, “why in the world are we putting jellybeans in a suitcase?” (Hired!) Ask about learning styles, empathy, personal interest, and values. Bring up topics that are common in your team meetings and determine if the prospect aligns with your team and company culture before making a decision. Lastly, give back ten minutes of the interview. Let them ask you questions!

Be honest with new hires about exactly what they’ll be doing too. Setting expectations for what you want them to do is standard management. More importantly, help them set their own expectations for what the job entails and what the challenges are/may be. Don’t shy away from telling prospective employees or new hires the truth about the good, the tough, and the changing aspects of the role and team. Really set the stage. If they know what they’re getting into, and make an informed decision to take the role, they’re far more likely to stay when the going gets tough.
