Before any one can “embrace change” after experiencing a layoff, it’s important to be kind to oneself, to take the time needed (as much as one can, given individual circumstances) to deal with and ACCEPT the change. Ask yourself what you gained from this previous job/organization/manager/experience and what you hope to gain from your next career opportunity. After reflecting on these, you may be more open to accepting and, eventually, embracing the change.

Some years back during my youth service year my colleagues and I volunteer into advocacy against corrupt practices in the civil and public service. I notice several hidden ideas from some of my group members that spurs our advocacy to a huge success. I am deeply overwhelmed of their support initiatives and innovative ideas. Hence my conclusion that volunteer work is greatly important in advancing fresh and inventive carry path.

É importante entender que não somos eternos e nem insubstituíveis. A demissão faz parte do processo de crescimento. Devemos entender como um ciclo encerrado para inicio de um outro. Não devemos perder tempo com lamentações. Seguir em frente é fundamental.

Precisamos ter total conhecimento de nossas habilidades e aptidões, para conseguirmos nos colocar no mercado. Investir em conhecimento e estar sempre evoluindo e atualizado são pontos indispensáveis em nossa trajetória profissional.

Minha experiência profissional me fez entender a necessidade de estar sempre atualizado e investindo em conhecimento. Como dizia meu saudoso pai, "Conhecimento não ocupa espaço".

Manter seu network ativo é fundamental. Desta forma, participe constantemente de Fóruns, Eventos e mantenha uma relação próxima com seu mercado de atuação. Mantenha-se visível. "Quem não é visto, não é lembrado".

While reflection is generally considered an internal, mental activity, some breakthrough and rich reflection may be gleaned from outside ourselves - from our colleagues, friends, family members or others with whom we interact regularly. Ask others simple, though potentially compelling questions, such as: - “What do you hear/observe when I talk about my new job/manager/organization?” - “I’d like a reality check here…based on what I’ve shared with you, is this new job/career situation what I said I was seeking?”

I’ve observed over many years in working with professionals who have been laid off, that it can be one of the most difficult circumstances that one can experience in life. It can be akin to a sudden loss of a personal relationship, loss of home, and other unforeseen adverse life events. That said, it’s critically important to reflect and learn during this transition, that we are NOT our jobs nor our profession. We, as individuals, are much greater than that. And, those same professionals who are devastated after layoffs, often find a new, rich career path they would have not have found, otherwise.
