Ultimately, you have to give people a reason to care for your cause. Thing about who it is that’s your target donor and where they may be. Climate change group, likely young people, on XYZ social media site. Partner with other groups, influencers, etc that share a common mission. Don’t overlook podcasts, too.

Personally, I feel this is the most under-looked way to scale a nonprofit. You do have to make sure the people or groups you partner with quite strictly align with your mission and values. But, if they do, you can create events together, raise money together, brainstorm ideas, and so much more. It’s generally quite effective.

We're always working to diversify our funding so that if one big government grant went away, we wouldn't be in a major budget bind. It helps to do this in 2 year budget cycles by reviewing your current revenue sources, anticipated revenue sources and thinking about new opportunities beyond the ones you receive now. Are there new grant opportunities coming up, or business partnerships that work for your non-profit, or events that could benefit your budget? Look at the options and proceed towards diversification while thoughtfully estimating what those new revenue sources might be and how much so you have a plan in place for your board to assist.
