So, here goes mine: If your client is functional, there must be functional reasons for the last-time changes. Take them, help and ask for help in prioritizing according to the objective. IF YOUR CLIENT IS NOT FUNCTIONAL, then you have a problem, as the last-minute changes could be a result of a new dream, opinion, advice or else... so, in this case the best is to show them the priorities you are working on, how this change will affect them, let them take the risk and responsibility of their changes, and ask them to decide the priority over the scope.
