In my experience as a travel Specialist is that ,when you put up a tour package for a certain group with a different language, always insist to have an interpreter on that group to assist and avoid language barrier. Why am i saying this, you cannot find a local interpreter for every other language at your destination, hence a tour leader should be able to communicate with the group should there be a misunderstanding due to language.

I think tour guide is more about story telling , Language is a key factor Tour guide has to prepare very good for his trip before communicating with guests using translation app to help him getting best expressions & also in real time In this case language barrier will slowly disappear

Absolutely! Today we are lucky to have technology available and it gives us the chance to communicate with people all over the world. Translators do work very well and do break language barriers easily. Most translators are easy to handle and are available for free. With using the translator one might learn two or three words in the foreign language without any effort 🙂

According to me: 1. Smile to show understanding nature. 2. Use thumbs up for "okay" or approval. 3. Point to objects or directions (when culturally appropriate). 4. Show numbers with fingers. 5. Use hand-to-ear gesture for "I can't understand." 6. Draw simple pictures if needed. Research local customs before your trip. When in doubt, keep gestures simple and respectful. Well you might not be good in all languages but English is core language to communicate and technology has improved where you can record yourself and let the app translate everything on your behalf to whatever language you choose. And as a tourism graduate i feel it a good thing to learn other languages because you will be meeting new people from different countries "tourist"
