Balance Positives and Areas for Improvement: Start with what the speaker did well to build confidence. Follow with constructive suggestions for improvement. Focus on Key Points: Choose a few significant areas to discuss rather than overwhelming the speaker with too much feedback. Be Objective and Supportive: Base your feedback on observable facts rather than personal opinions. Maintain a positive and encouraging tone. Offer Solutions: When pointing out areas for improvement, suggest actionable steps the speaker can take to enhance their performance.

When evaluating a speech, attentively observe the speaker's delivery, language use, body language, and engagement with the audience. Observe both strengths and areas for improvement. Providing balanced feedback helps boost the speaker's confidence and promotes constructive growth. Recognizing what the speaker did well, anr suggestions for enhancement, that will show a positive tone for your evaluation.

The first thing is to be aware of the timing of your feedback. when people have just finished presenting they're generally feeling good but not in a reflective mood. That's the time to give them praise for what they've done well. If they ask for feedback tell them you'll do it later over a coffee so they have time to be ready to receive the feedback. When they're ready reinforce what they've done well then give them a positive tip to improve. Don't tell them what you don't like, make it positive so they feel motivated to improve. Finally finish of with more highlights of the things they've done well so that it's a valuable and rewarding experience.

If you have been asked to evaluate a speech, it means the speaker is looking for ways to improve themselves ! So if you only tell them « good job », «  I liked this part », or « work on your vocal variety » … it’s really not very helpful ! As an evaluator your job is to give specific feedback on how they can improve themselves or what specifically they have done that was really good! So analyse their speech based on their objectives and your own POV, and give them concrete advice on how they can be better! You can use the examples that they used in their speech, and add your personal touch to it, to make it better!

Being specific with feedback ensures that your comments are actionable to the speaker and that they can identify specific areas to improve on in the future. 1. Highlight Strengths Example: If they used supporting evidence well, mention it. “Your use of the latest industry statistics demonstrated thorough research and made your points much more credible and persuasive.” 2. Constructive Criticism Example: If the speaker had a habit of speaking too quickly, provide actionable advice. “You spoke very quickly during the middle section. To improve pacing, try practicing with a metronome or recording yourself and noting where natural pauses should occur. This will help the audience better absorb your key points.”

For example, "I liked how you used humor to connect with the audience" or "I think you could work on your eye contact and gestures".- Be balanced. Give both positive and negative feedback, and try to make them even. Don't just focus on the mistakes or the good parts of the speech, but mention both. For example, "You had a clear structure and a strong conclusion, but I felt that your introduction was too long and boring".- Be respectful. Don't judge the speaker as a person, but focus on their performance and behavior.

As I noted in 1, feedback is most helpful when it is constructive and includes examples identifying the statements at issue and explaining how they came across, as compared to an ideal or intended comparison.

Being specific is so important, as someone who has judged speech and debate competitions at the state and district level, any speaker and especially those in a younger generation won't learn anything if you don't tell them the "Why" behind the critique. For example "It would be best to wear your hair up and out of your face for a performance--> Because hair falling into your face means that you can't make eye contact with the audience, the audience cannot see your facial expressions and/or constant flipping your hair out of your face distracts from your message"

First off, the tone of your feedback can significantly affect how it's received, so start by acknowledging what went well. For instance, “Your introduction was very engaging, and you effectively captured the audience's attention with your anecdote - I can sense the enthusiasm which really sets a great tone for your speech.” Now, when discussing areas for improvement, frame your suggestions positively. Instead of saying, “You speak too quickly,” try, “Your passion comes through clearly, and by slowing down a bit, your key points will have even more impact and can help the audience better absorb your message.” Finally, reiterate their strengths and that they're doing fantastic already! Support is often is needed to take in feedback

Feedback is hard to give and hard to receive. Public speaking is already so vulnerable you have to be careful to not only give negative feedback to encourage the person to keep going and do it again! I like to use “strengths” of the presentation and “areas of opportunity” rather than “here’s what you did wrong”. That way it still conveys the message on what they need to improve but with a gentle approach.

Don't use mean or rude words, but choose nice and helpful ones. For example, "I disagree with your opinion" or "I have a different perspective" instead of "You are wrong" or "You don't know what you are talking about".- Be supportive. Cheer the speaker on to keep improving and learning, and say thank you for their effort and courage. Don't make them feel bad or discouraged, but inspire them to do better. For example, "You have a lot of potential as a speaker, and I can't wait to hear more from you" or "Thank you for sharing your speech with us, it was very cool and informative".- Be timely.

No one likes to hear a list of everything they did wrong. No good leader should ever have that approach. Saying only the negative things kills a persons spirit and makes them emotionally shut off to the point where they might not even hear the rest of what you are saying. Not only mix the positive comments within constructive critiques but be specific on the positive comments, like, this part of your speech really made me think or laugh instead of just "Good job.... but." Keep areas of opportunity constructive and not mean. I once had a judge write "I don't know why I'm listening to this worthless prattle" I was 15 years old. She had smiled the entire time like she was enjoying my speech. She really killed me spirit that day.

Nothing helps encourage a speaker's growth more than first sharing one of my own speech horror stories. Suddenly, my motives of criticism aren't cruel, but genuine expressions of encouragement, and much more likely to be trusted and used.

There area always tips and tricks, drills to become a better speaker. If you are a strong speaker, share with them the tools that you used to make yourself a better speaker. Practice in front of a mirror, take them to a website with sentences that help improve their diction. Identify if they used a specific word over and over again and work with them and a thesaurus to make sure the speech doesn't sound redundant. Many people learn well from others. If they've come to you for your advice and feedback, you should be honored that they look up to you, so show and share your wisdom! Inspire them to grow!

Recalcar que solo la practica, la disciplina y el estudio pueden lograr que un orador demuestre el dominio del tema , esto hará que el mensaje sea claro, apreciado y prácticamente "inolvidable" para la audiencia, quien esperará con ansias un nuevo discurso o exposición de quien ha demostrado maestría en lo que dice, característica hoy en día muy necesaria, ya que la mayoría solo critica pero no abre puertas para el entendimiento y soluciones para los problemas, un bue orador y un buen critico abren puertas no las cierran.

Instill a growth mindset in the speaker by assuming they already have one! Say "lets try it again" or "lets keep practicing this until you're confident"

As simple as it sounds: smile when giving feedback. Acknowledge that speaking (like anything new) can be intimidating and empathize with them. If you empathize with someone you can gain their trust and then encourage them to see the world from your view point - which you will make sure is a positive one!

Positive Framing is key when providing feedback; people tend to shut themselves off or become less willing to hear feedback once they perceive negativity. To prevent this, frame your suggestions in a positive light, and towards further growth rather than "rectifying a grave mistake" - so to speak. For instance, “Your body language is already strong, and by incorporating more eye contact, you can connect even more deeply with your audience.”

As a professional storyteller, I endeavor to put the speaker at ease through my positive words, body language and huge smile. The speaker's brain will be more receptive to my positive tone than a negative one. Consider positivity like building a campfire; blowing directly into the emerging flame increases positive growth, but blowing the wrong direction puts the fire out.

There are 3 levels of feedback to a presentation. The outermost layer is of “having”- does the presenter have the knowledge, the slides, the attire etc. The second layer is the layer of “doing”, -the tangible skills of presentation. The most significant layer, however, is deeply hidden, the layer of “being”, of who the person is “being”. Do they respect and care about the audience? Do they bring authenticity, passion, dedication and enthusiasm? This goes beyond “having” (knowledge) and “doing” (skills) to the very core of the presenter’s being- of who they are, of where they are standing, of the innermost consciousness they are inhabiting. Knowledge and skills can be faked but being cannot be faked. It’s the fragrance of pure authenticity.

In my opinion, one of the best and most lasting methods of providing feedback to speakers; Very respectful and critical writing is the weakness and strength of his speech. Also, having sensors in the speech environment that can measure and analyze the level of attention or distraction and in terms of action and reaction between the speaker and the audience will be very effective.
