How do you cultivate a growth mindset and a curiosity for learning new things?

One of the most important traits in life is your ability to learn. That's where growth & true potential comes from, not your "talent". That's what growth mindset is about -- understanding that our abilities (emotional, intellectual, physical, etc) are malleable and not fixed. In addition, we live in a time of unprecedented pace of innovation and the skills required for work are continuously evolving (in fact, in the last few years, the skills required to perform a certain role changed by over 25%). This means that in the future, even sustaining your career would require you to unlearn & relearn. Which is what growth mindset is all about. Curiosity simply brings joy into it :)

If you've ever wondered why some people seem to continually evolve, adapt, and excel, you may be surprised to learn that it often boils down to two key factors: a growth mindset and an insatiable curiosity for learning new things. But why are they so crucial? The answer lies in the ever-changing nature of our world. New technology, societal changes, and a host of other factors mean that we constantly need to adapt, and those who ask, listen and learn are better equipped to do so. By seeing challenges as opportunities for learning rather than obstacles to success, these individuals tend to be more resilient, motivated, and successful in various areas of life.

When there is a "game-changing dimension" as you say, needing to happen, organization is critically important. Why? There are many trails and paths one may try and access goals, but having a plan is important I beginning. If you can't make a boiled egg, then you may need the directions or someone to show you. Additionally, I believe working on another level is when cooking a dozen (12) eggs, is known instead of one. Then learn to make Creamed Egg halves (Deviled Eggs). So good you thought you thought your mama made them.

Language matters a lot here. A simple change is moving from "I don't know how to do this" to "I don't know how to do this *yet*".

Cultivating a growth mindset involves embracing challenges, seeing effort as a path to mastery, and learning from criticism. It's about understanding that intelligence isn't fixed, but can grow with effort. To start, try setting learning goals rather than performance goals. Celebrate small improvements and remember, setbacks aren't failures, they're opportunities to learn. No one learns to balance on one foot without taking a few tumbles. Remember that what you may think of as 'failures' are actually powerful learning opportunities when you look back on them.

A goal specific mind-set comes from having a dream or a vision with the ability to allow you to persevere, endure, and a willingness to remain focused with access to learning and training in a meaningful direction, leading to successful arrivals until reaching goals and objectives, actively functioning the way you want them to be.

Another tip: get in touch with people who are doing things that you’re curious about! LinkedIn is a great platform for doing informational interviews or simply connecting with others who do work that you’re curious about.

Draw less boundaries as you deliver on your core wherever you are (eg finance, sales) and we have a culture tenant here in LinkedIn around "acting like an owner" which embodies this. It was never just about that deliverable you are working on but what that means for the customer or the company strategy or even humanity. Secondly, solve key business problems and priorities - and the skills to be learnt are a step in the way. Everyone including every expert was here at some point of time

I was once told that everything in the universe can be boiled into three categories: the things you know, the things you don't know, and the things you didn't know you could know. Cultivating a curiosity for learning starts with nurturing your own natural interests. Dive deeper into topics you love, asking questions and seeking answers. Embrace the unknown and view every experience as a learning opportunity. Try stepping outside your comfort zone; new experiences often ignite curiosity. Lastly, practice mindfulness, it'll help you notice more details, sparking questions and deeper understanding. My favourite question is "why?". I ask it constantly, to the point that even my daughter gets fed up of me!

Applying a growth mindset and curiosity in practice starts with welcoming challenges and being persistent when facing setbacks. You don't get to see how big a lion is until you jump into the arena with it! View effort as the key to mastery and learn from criticism. Embrace your curiosities, asking questions and seeking answers in your daily life. Try something new often and reflect on your learning journey. Journaling is a powerful tool when used correctly (write about your daily highlights, challenges, learning points and gratitudes, then plan tomorrow's objectives, growth milestones and affirmations). Most importantly, remember progress, not perfection, is the goal.

It starts with recognition. We often jump headfirst into a situation thinking we can take it on until we end up tripping over each hurdle. Understand the challenge and seek multiple solutions (there is rarely a one-size fits all). Embrace resilience: it's okay to fall, the key is to get back up. Learn from failures and adapt your strategy. Seek help if needed, remember, collaboration can lead to great solutions. Most importantly, don't forget to ignore imposter syndrome. You're not alone, everyone has had it at least once. But then again, everyone is new at something at least once. You don't climb to the top of the tree by sitting on the same branch!

Adopt a "fail fast" mentality as a way to learn or unlearn traits that may have been conditioned early on in life or your career. This will pave the way for additional growth opportunities. Some of the most "successful people" failed many times before anyone ever learned of their success.

Simply put, amazing wonders are in store for all who wonder. It starts in the imagination, something we all possess, one of our purest yet often undervalued assets. Just imagine. It's where all things extraordinary exist. Pretend you are a kid again and embrace the possibilities.

Don't underestimate the power of your environment and the people that surround you. Find a safe space where you can be vulnerable and open to learning new skills at work or at home. Your vibe attracts your tribe!

Learning can't stop. It has to be in 'Continuous' mode and should never have a pause button. This is because of the only reason that technology and tools are upgraded and updated everyday. Having a strong passion to scale your personal skills or grow your own business comes handy when it comes to learning new skills as it's natural and instinctive. Nobody forces you to learn new skills; it's you who does it willingly and voluntarily.
