Carefully choose GenAI solutions that have made transparent commitments to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Accessibility (DEIA). If the vendor does not have information on this, they likely are not prioritizing it, and their models and platforms are far more likely to generate racist, sexist or offensive outputs. Secondly, research the founders behind the technology to ensure you are prioritizing DEIA in their leadership. These are two key ways to prevent bias.

Here’s the thing that’s not being talked about. Pay structures and things of that nature are a separate conversation. What needs to be addressed here is the data where it’s being sourced, how it’s being utilized and the algorithms that are being implemented to perform decisions etc. The elephant in the room is this, many underserved and underestimated populations have been excluded from information/data beyond what is made available. There have been only a subset of cultures that have been exposed to information and the process of manipulating data for so long that it’s created a huge disparity. How could AI algorithms be fair when the data sources themselves were contributed by a small percentage of the cultural world?

To address bias and unfairness in AI algorithms, first, identify the bias and understand its nature. Clean and preprocess data to remove bias, adjust algorithms to reduce bias, and regularly monitor and evaluate algorithm performance for fairness. It's also really important to include different kinds of people, like ethicists and those affected by the technology, to get different viewpoints and make sure things are fair. We should keep checking and making our AI better to handle bias, and keep learning about new ways to do it.
