RESEARCH and PREPARE!!!! Know your prospect better than they do before the meeting. I walked into a bank for a meeting with their senior management looking for their support of a major LPGA golf tournament. The meeting began with their SVP Marketing sharing they had no interest in becoming a sponsor and this was only a courtesy meeting. WOW...where do you go from there? It was only because I invested time in researching their company ahead of time, learning about the bank, their mission, their customers, etc. and made a case for direct business value to supporting my event that resulted in a five-year, high-six-figure sponsorship! Get creative to demonstrate value to prospects, whether corporations, foundations or individuals.

Create space for them to contribute in other ways which they are interested in. 3. Thank them for their support in creative ways such as giving floor to them to speak in an event. Never do your next ask at the time of thanking. Distinguish thanking and asking. Always design a life long journey.

Fundraising is often more of a time and energy drain on the organization that we would like. We are here to carry out a mission after all right?!? So how do we find success and ensure we have the revenue to support the mission? The big question, right. First know there is no silver bullet. It's okay if you have to experiment and try new things. It's okay to do some RND (Rip-off N' Duplicate). My suggestion is find ways that are effective with your time, that of your staff, and volunteers. You want to both raise funds and accomplish your mission right, so don't loose sight of either key function along the way. Success breeds success. When you have successes, capitalize on that! Hit up sponsors, key donors. Timing is an important factor.
