Folks who work for non-profits as I have in the past are idealists and are often intrinsically motivated. Whether they are leading or following, they are doing what they are doing for their own reasons. For this to work harmoniously, there must be alignment not just with the goals of the non-profit but also the means. For employees to feel fulfilled they must be able to contribute in a manner and role that motivated them to join the cause in the first place. Burnout was particularly high as people are not working to time they are working toward a goal. Helping people manage this ambition and meter their time will sustain them long term even if they start out sprinting in a marathon.

Something I have done in the past is to hold a potluck lunch where everyone is encouraged to bring their favorite childhood dish and then share about it as we eat. Non-profit organizations often don't pause and think about fun at all, forget fun for the employees - it is understandable given the kinds of difficult and heavy work they do but community building is essential, including within the organization. Fun doesn't have to be expensive, it can be simple activities such as recognition using tools like Kudoboard, celebrating birthdays, using holidays and festivals to offer people the chance to dress up, bring/share food, sign cards etc. It may not be possible to pay someone to come in and lead a wellness class but perhaps someone in the organization is interested in doing it (and there is a way to make it happen without adding to their workload)
