Adams and Reese invited friends, clients, and members of the legal community to celebrate our new Sarasota office space at 2001 Siesta Drive. Our Partner Ryan Owen serves as our Sarasota office Partner in Charge. Ryan was joined at the event by attorneys from our Florida offices and firm management, including Managing Partner Gif Thornton. 

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of John Thomas Rogerson III, longtime Partner and Counsel in our Jacksonville office.   John practiced for 35 years. He was an incredible litigator and brought unparalleled knowledge of the financial services industry to his clients, representing banks and financial entities across the Southeast. John once said that one of his great legal accomplishments was being told by an opposing counsel that his representation was the best example of ethical lawyering they had seen. In John’s own words about his practice, “I treat my client’s problem as my problem and I expect other lawyers who work with me to do the same.”   A veteran who served four years in the Navy, John attended the University of Florida, where he ran Gator Track and Field and set records in the 10,000m and 5,000m races in 1983 and 1984, respectively.    We celebrate his enduring contributions to the legal profession and the communities he served throughout his career. Susan was joined by Kelsey Funes, Partner with Phelps Dunbar LLP; and the Hon. D. Nicole Sheppard, Orleans Civil District Court. "The 'Open Banking' Revolution" - The march towards the "open banking" revolution has begun. The next six months may mark a significant transformation in how financial entities handle consumer data.   The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau has issued its Proposed Rule implementing Section 1033 of the Dodd-Frank Act. If/when it is finalized, financial institutions would be required to enter into new data sharing agreements that meet CFPB standards. "Not So Fast" - The FTC's nationwide ban on noncompetes is on hold, following a federal court striking down the rule yesterday. The court's ruling prohibits the FTC from enforcing the noncompete ban and provides nationwide relief for employers, maintaining the status quo.     "The FTC lacks statutory authority to promulgate the noncompete rule," and its issuance of the rule was "an unlawful agency action" requiring the rule to be set aside in its entirety. "The [FTC's noncompete] rule shall not be enforced or otherwise take effect on September 4, 2024, or thereafter." - Judge Ada Brown in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas   Adams and Reese attorneys Timothy Brinks, Matt Jackson, Hunter Schoen, and Evan Gaudet discuss Judge Brown's judgment and the future of the rule.
