To celebrate Pride 2024, we collaborated with CFDA winner Jacques Agbobly to design a T-shirt celebrating togetherness. Agbobly, in collaboration with painter Harlan Hue, created a custom piece that features two-gender fluid individuals embracing each other amidst swirls of blue, orange and purple hues. Black Boy Knits (BBK) is an independent design studio which emphasizes black, queer and immigrant naratives, while highlighting its contributions on a global perspective. As a design studio, BBK centers on creating unique pieces on a made-to-order basis. BBK’s made-to-order practice eliminates the possibility of excess in production. Products are made in-house on a hand-operated knitting machine using natural fibers that are biodegradable and eco-friendly. In the future, I want to work directly with local wool suppliers to guarantee an ethical supply chain. BBK prioritizes custom and durable products while consuming less energy, wasting less resources and creating less waste.

I am so ecstatic to be announced as the very first recipient of WWD’s “One to Watch” honor at their upcoming CEO summit later this October. I am honored and humbled to be recognized amongst other prestigious designers and fashion industry leaders whose careers I have looked up to, such as DRIES VAN NOTEN and Maria Grazia Chiuri of Dior. I would like to say a huge thank you to WWD for being such a catalyst in the trajectory of my career and brand’s development and for championing emerging brands. This year has been filled with many highs and lows for me in my personal and professional life, and receiving this honor is extremely gratifying and marks a very exciting time for the brand and its growth.
