Usually we're asking for money or volunteers or both... different ask this time: We are reaching out to inform our community of a significant challenge facing the Alameda Food Bank. Recently, two members of the public have filed a lawsuit to nullify our project approval and halt construction at our new facility located at 677 West Ranger Ave. This legal action, which has been pursued against numerous other approved projects at Alameda Point, focuses on the City's approval process and does not allege misconduct by our organization. We have worked closely with City staff throughout this process to ensure our Project adheres to all necessary guidelines, regulatory requirements, and procedures. It is incredibly frustrating and disheartening to face such a threat to our mission. A delay of this magnitude could severely impact our ability to provide essential nutrition to thousands of residents—nearly 9% of our Island neighbors. The potential disruption to our services would be devastating for the community we are dedicated to supporting. We urgently need your support. Please join us on Tuesday, September 17, at 6:45pm at City Hall ( 2263 Santa Clara Ave) for the scheduled City Council meeting for a rally in support of the Food Bank. Your presence will help demonstrate the strong community backing for our mission.

The Alameda Food Bank began operating in 1977 from a closet at Twin Towers Methodist Church providing monthly emergency food to an average of ten local families in need. Today, we serve nearly 5000 low-income individuals in the City of Alameda. The Alameda Food Bank is an independent full service pantry-style hunger relief program and the only source of free groceries in town. An average family using all of our programs can receive over half of their monthly groceries. In 2015 we distributed over 1.3 million pounds of groceries.

September is Hunger Action Month and tomorrow is National Food Bank day. In honor of our more than 500 volunteers who give so generously of their time, and without whom we could not help our fellow Islanders, here's a photo of super volunteer Burney admiring some beautiful, organic graffiti eggplant. If you'd like to join our volunteer Crew go to: https://lnkd.in/g-9yhkH Or if you'd like to help us with a donation: https://lnkd.in/gJ7XWRJC And as always, THANK YOU ALAMEDA!

With the school year starting back up, we want to thank our donors for helping us continue our partnership with AUSD. Once again we will be providing snacks for Title 1 schools in Alameda and helping our friends at All Good Living keep the Community Food Closets at those schools well stocked. If you'd like to help us with this important program, you can donate at: https://lnkd.in/gJ7XWRJC #alamedaunified #AUSD #allgoodliving

MONDAY IS THE DAY... the day we begin demo work on our first ever forever home!! The building was built in the 1980's as a hobby shop for Navy personnel. We're keeping the exterior shell, renovating the inside and in October will break ground on a brand new 10,000 sq/ft warehouse that will be attached to the existing building. We are over the moon excited and it's right across the street from our existing warehouse making moving easy! Please note; no one in this picture will be doing any actual demo work, that would be unsafe and quite frankly silly.

We think this is a beautiful centerpiece... but we're biased. What a lovely mitzvah for a wonderful Bat Mitzvah. #batmitzvah

After over 5 years as Alameda Food Bank's Board President Rebecca Rivykn is stepping down and passing the baton (or in our case the sparkly, ribbon festooned baton) to longtime Vice President Craig Hotti. Rebecca helmed AFB during some... umm... interesting times. A pandemic that turned our operations upside down, a dramatic increase in the number of families we serve, inflation increasing our expenses and the hiring of a new Executive Director. So if anyone deserves a break, it's her. Thank you Rebecca for all you did for Alameda Food Bank, we will miss you. Taking over as Vice President is Board Member Catherine Gacad.

Thank you so much Royal Grand Ducal Council of Alameda & Contra Costa Counties Inc. For the second year in a row they made a significant contribution to AFB. Their $6,000 donation will go along way to helping us feed the Island. As their website says: “Our purpose is to raise money to be disbursed several times a year for those Charities in the County who are not heavily subsidized by other grants.” And boy do they ever walk the talk. You folks are amazing. #royalgrandducalcouncil

We don't often promote another organizations fundraiser, but these folks are family. We've provided food for their day center and for families living in the housing they manage for years. #AlamedaStrong #TheVillageOfLove
