We're thrilled to announce that the U.S. Green Building Council has named 55 H Street at Georgetown University as a LEED Homes Awards recipient in the Outstanding Multifamily category 🥳 The 476-bed project is a 100% electric, low-carbon building designed to include a variable refrigerant flow and dedicated outdoor air systems with heat recovery, providing controlled and conditioned ventilation that improves indoor air quality and occupant health, while reducing greenhouse gas emissions. This week, we celebrated the grand opening of our new community The Ridge at Emory University. The project has expanded Emory's on-campus Graduate Housing by 535 beds. Equipped with a community center, private and group study lounges, and state-of-the-art 24-hour fitness center, the community fosters a live-learn experience just 15 minutes away from most graduate and professional schools. “This housing initiative has amplified the importance of graduate and professional students on campus, bringing visibility to their contributions to our community and intentionally creating space for creative and interdisciplinary collisions,” said Kimberly J., dean of the James T. Laney School of Graduate Studies and vice provost for graduate affairs. “We know that it is not enough to provide a rigorous academic experience and student-centered programming that honors the whole student. We need physical space and additional programming that honors the unique needs of graduate and professional students. The Ridge does just that." With more than 16 million teens and adults nationwide reported experiencing suicidal thoughts in 2023, off-campus student housing operators are uniquely positioned to help with suicide prevention and postvention responses. The The Jed Foundation (JED), in partnership with the College Student Mental Wellness Advocacy Coalition and Hi, How Are You Foundation, have released “Responding to a Suicide: Postvention Guidance for Student Housing Managers" -- The new emergency preparedness guidebook provides best practices to off-campus student housing managers on how to handle the sudden and tragic loss of a resident in a community — likely one of the most challenging experiences they may encounter in their roles.
