The Council brings together problem solvers and employs four coordinated approaches to advance change—litigation, research, legislative and administrative advocacy, and communications. With this synergy, the Council works to advance positive public attitudes and create a more welcoming America—one that provides a fair process for immigrants and adopts immigration laws and policies that take into account the needs of the U.S. economy.

From September 13th to 22nd, we’re coming together to celebrate what makes our community special—our diverse perspectives, backgrounds, and experiences, especially those brought by immigrants who enrich our lives every day. This year’s theme, “We’re All In,” is about building a place where everyone, no matter where they’re from, feels they belong. Join us in celebration as we highlight the vital contributions of immigrants to our community and show how we’re "All In" for a brighter, more welcoming future for all. #WelcomingWeek2024

“A song where every note counts...” That was how 5th grader Angela Du described the United States of America. The American Immigration Council was thrilled to celebrate her as the winner of our Celebrate America Creative Writing Contest earlier this summer. Her poem beautifully described the “grand story” that we create together in our nation. It should inspire each of us to create and contribute a country where immigrants and their families are welcomed and celebrated. I hope you take a moment to read Angela’s poem. After you do, please consider helping us reach our September fundraising goal with your gift! We have until 9/30 to raise $5,000. Every gift matters and is critical at a time when our work is more important than ever.

We need YOU! The American Immigration Council has set a goal to raise $5,000 by the end of September to power our work and transform our nation’s immigration policies. Our work is more critical than ever, and your support has a huge impact. Earlier this summer, we honored an incredible young poet, Angela. Her poem was inspired by her experience growing up in an immigrant family and her father’s journey from China to America. Her story and the work we do every day remind us that our country has a rich immigrant past—and a vibrant immigrant future. Help us write the story of a more welcoming America. Will you join us in walking alongside immigrants today? Donate: https://lnkd.in/e9-ijwhN

Since 2003, the U.S. has funneled billions into immigration enforcement, but here’s the kicker: In FY 2024, Congress spent nearly three times more on immigration detention centers ($3.43 billion) than on the entire adjudication system for removal and asylum claims ($1.26 billion). This glaring disparity has led to severe case backlogs, with over 3.7 million cases pending and only 725 immigration judges nationwide. The result? A broken system where enforcement is prioritized over justice causes years of delay for those seeking asylum. It's time for a major rethink. We need a balanced approach that adequately funds our humanitarian protection and adjudication systems, not just enforcement. Read more from our latest updated report here: https://lnkd.in/eU4aUZ_y

Judge Grants Texas’ Request to Keep Families Apart, At Least For Now A mere three days after 16 Republican-led states sued the Biden administration over its “Keeping Families Together” parole process, a federal judge in Texas handed the plaintiffs a temporary “administrative stay,” ordering the federal government to stop granting any applications under the new process while the lawsuit proceeds.
