I love the opportunity to create a feature that keeps on giving, growing, and helps our users further embody what makes them unique. What I love about my job: It's all about the people, the peers on my team and the customers we serve. It truly takes a village, and I can't do what I do without the help from across the org. Language can shape how we see the world, and ourselves. With so many people undertaking an Ancestry DNA test and discovering connections to places with unfamiliar languages, we thought we would take a look at language as identity. This month Ancestry hosted an event Barry's in Sydney to officially launch our 30 new Performance traits in the Australian market. We were so lucky to have the sporting legend Cathy Freeman join us to discuss her sports-related traits before we put our guests to the test with an hour-long bootcamp. As part of our #BringYourDNAGame campaign we teamed up with 15 athletes globally to unlock conversations around nature versus nurture when it comes to becoming a global superstar in the world of sports and athletics. In her new role, Jaques will lead Ancestry's US marketing organization, overseeing everything from growth strategy development to subscriber engagement and go-to-market execution. Last week, Ancestry was a proud sponsor of the 2024 National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) Convention. Moderated by theGrio reporter and author Natasha S. Alford, panelists Nicka Sewell-Smith (Ancestry), Nikole Hannah-Jones (New York Times Magazine, The 1619 Project) and Keyaira K. (ELLE Magazine, Refinery29 Unbothered) explored how to harness the richness of historical record collections to craft inclusive and factual storytelling. Reflecting on the importance thorough research had in the completion of her Pulitzer-prize winning The 1619 Project, Nikole Hannah-Jones shared, “Access to records on Ancestry demystifies that we are people with an untraceable past…If you don’t have access to those documents you are relying on someone else to tell their version of your story for you. Last week we hosted Ancestry’s fourth annual Global Day of Service - a day dedicated to stepping away from work and supporting the communities where we live and work. More than 200 colleagues and their families came together in-person and virtually around the world to make a difference. Together we: - Packed more than 240 backpacks with school supplies for Boys & Girls Clubs of America of Utah County - Built 60 musical instruments to support youth with developmental disabilities - Captured more than 1,000 photographs and GPS coordinates of headstones and memorials with Find A Grave. By capturing and making this information available for free, we help families seeking information to find where their ancestors and loved ones were laid to rest. #Volunteering - it’s in our DNA. #WeAreAncestry
