According to new data released by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, more than 1 in 4—over 70 million—adults in the United States reported having a disability in 2022. This number indicates a significant increase from the previously reported number, 61 million. We consider this data a powerful reminder of why we must work toward a world that’s inclusive and accessible for all.

We couldn’t agree more with Robert Knapp's central point in this article from Route Fifty: “Individuals with disabilities represent a significant segment of the population, and by ensuring that their needs are met, government agencies can foster greater inclusion and representation in public discourse and decision-making processes. Accessibility is essential for ensuring that no one is left on the wrong side of the digital divide.” This is why we’re committed to implementing digital accessibility for all!

Recent data gathered by Mercer in partnership with Global Disability Inclusion, LLC found that of the approximately 7% of workers that identified as having a disability, 51% indicated they had a mental health condition, such as depression or anxiety, as their primary disability. This resource from SHRM highlights key issues that people with mental health disabilities encounter at work, including a lack of access to support. At Applied Development, we’re committed to supporting our team members’ mental health through a variety of innovative programs, policies, and benefits.
