👋 Meet Ashley Brabham, a deputy project manager for APTIM’s Emergency Management team! Ashley is a six-year veteran at APTIM, and a Kentwood, #Louisiana, resident. Ashley calls the field of emergency management dynamic, challenging, and fulfilling. “By providing immediate assistance and support during natural or man-made disasters, you can help save lives,” she said. “There's a strong sense of community and teamwork among disaster response professionals.” A day in the life of a deputy project manager involves planning, coordination, and communication with project leadership and field staff. Ashley and her team have sheltered over 5,500 households through the Louisiana #Hurricane Ida Non-Congregate Sheltering program alone. https://lnkd.in/gHtZijmT “One family wrote a letter expressing their gratitude for the safe and clean haven provided during their time in the shelter. This family, displaced for over 17 months and facing numerous challenges, nonetheless conveyed a deep sense of appreciation that truly resonated with our team,” she said. In Louisiana, Ashley is focused on building resilient communities through developing plans and streamlining processes for response and recovery. “APTIM’s work to make more sustainable and resilient communities involves creating systems and practices that meet the needs of the present without compromising those of future generations.” Ashley encourages community members to stay vigilant and prepared for disasters by having plans, supplies, and insurance and safeguarding your home and important documents. The better prepared, the quicker recovery. APTIM is here to help ensure that your kiddos are safe, healthy, and prepared for whatever comes their way this school year. Here are some important reminders to share with them. ✅ Emergency Planning: 🔸Be familiar with the school's emergency procedures and meeting points. 🔸Never talk to strangers, including those on the internet, or accept unplanned rides. 🔸Know the names and phone numbers of all emergency contacts. ✅ Transportation Safety: 🔸Walk undistracted and use sidewalks and crosswalks. Look left, right, and left again and make eye contact with drivers before crossing streets. 🔸Before biking, plan a safe route. Ride in bike lanes, in the same direction as traffic. Wear a fitted, secured helmet and avoid loose fitting pant legs. At dark, use reflectors and lights. 🔸While on the bus, practice SAFE: ▫ Stay at least 10 feet (5 giant steps) away from the curb. ▫ Always wait until the bus stops and the bus driver signals for you to board. ▫ Face forward in your seat down. ▫ Exit the bus after it comes to a complete stop, looking left, right and left again. 🔸While in the car, avoid distractions and wear a seatbelt. ✅ Heathy Habits: 🔸 Pack only necessary items and use both backpack straps to avoid strain. 🔸Eat fruits and vegetables daily, and drinking water to stay hydrated. 🔸Handwash regularly including before eating or drinking. 🔸Practice kindness to all at school, and engage in positive conversations after school such as, “What is a challenge you overcame today?” and “What made you laugh?” For more, check out the National Safety Council’s Back to School Safety Checklist: https://lnkd.in/g_gCidpP Learn about APTIM’s preparedness solutions: https://lnkd.in/gbW5EmM4 #EmergencyManagement #EmergencyPreparedness #BackToSchool #SchoolSafety #SafetyFirst #InPursuitOfBetter

Do you know which products in your home are considered household hazardous waste (HHW)? If you are like most Americans, the answer is probably no. Turns out, thousands of everyday products are classified as HHW, and their proper disposal is critical to protect human and ecosystem health. Unfortunately, many communities lack convenient access to the appropriate facilities to manage this waste—leaving them at risk to environmental damages. 👋 Meet Cody A. Bruhl, CAPM, program manager for APTIM’s Coastal, Ports & Marine team. Cody is a 15-year veteran of APTIM, having started out as an intern in 2009. A native of the coastal Madisonville, #Louisiana, Cody has a firsthand understanding of the region’s distinct challenges and a resolve to make a difference in his home state. “I understand how blessed we are with our resources yet vulnerable to natural disasters. The work APTIM and my team does across the Gulf Coast has a direct impact on how my family and I live, work, and play,” he said. As a program manager, Cody tackles complex logistics to meet our clients’ demands while keeping our crews safe and prepared. Being a part of the CES Coastal Reference Monitoring System (#CRMS) team since 2009 has allowed Cody to yield essential insights for Louisiana and collaborate with dynamic, skilled professionals who share his passion. “Our dedication to providing the highest level of service to Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority of Louisiana unites us,” he said. Cody brings his passion for the coast outside of APTIM, too: He is the secretary of the St. Tammany Parish Levee, Drainage & Conservation District. There he witnesses CRMS data being put into action and citizens collaborating to ensure a safe, robust community. “Get involved in your local community, understand the problems you face at a local level, and work toward mitigation,” Cody shared. “You’d be surprised how many likeminded people are working toward the same goal.” Learn more about APTIM’s Coastal Sciences & Engineering Solutions: https://lnkd.in/gR_8aez9 #CoastalProtection #CoastalResilience #EnvironmentalSolutions #APTIMinLA #InPursuitOfBetter
