  • The AzHHA Foundation is excited to host the 2024 Arizona Hospital Leadership Conference, thanks in large part to the incredible support of our sponsors. We are thrilled to announce that this year’s Quality Awards luncheon sponsor is Creighton University! A leading national university, Creighton is supporting the growing need for healthcare professionals in the Southwest through its 195,000-square-foot health sciences campus in the Phoenix Medical Quarter. Nearly 900 students across medicine, nursing, pharmacy, occupational therapy, physical therapy and physician assistant programs are being educated in the Jesuit tradition of cura personalis, or care for the whole person. • 🏥Last week, Karen Ofafa, EdD, MPH, BSN, RN, director, Transition to Practice Program at AzHHA, spent time at Aurora Behavioral Health System - Tempe, one of the program’s participating facilities. During the visit, the team at the facility shared that their favorite part of the Arizona Transition to Practice Program is the support the entire hospital receives while engaging with the program. What participants from Aurora Behavioral Health System - Tempe are saying: 👨🏫Grayson, a preceptor in the program since the March 2024 cohort, has a lot of experience in behavioral health and loves to teach new grads, but he had not received formal training on how to precept. Grayson shared that the Arizona Transition to Practice Program’s Preceptor Academy has helped him not only understand the role of the preceptor but also provided him the necessary tools to be able to uniquely individualize the needs of the new graduate nurses he is supporting. 👩⚕️Hannah, a new graduate nurse in the June 2024 cohort, had completed nursing school and passed her board certification, but she did not feel prepared to provide patient care independently. Hannah recalls her clinicals were not specific to behavioral health. She shared: “This program provides me the specific behavioral health curriculum that I did not receive in nursing school.” Interested in learning more about this program? • The Arizona Healthcare Directives Registry (AzHDR) offers Arizonans a unique and vital service to ensure their healthcare wishes are known and respected, even when they cannot voice them themselves. Why register your healthcare wishes: ✅Clarity in crisis: In emergencies, when emotions run high, your registered directives provide clear guidance to your family and healthcare providers. ✅Empowerment and autonomy: Registering your healthcare directives ensures your voice is heard and your choices respected. ✅Ease for loved ones: It relieves your family from guessing your wishes or making tough decisions without knowing your preferences. ✅Accessibility and security: The AzHDR is easily accessible to healthcare providers across Arizona, ensuring your directives are available when needed, yet it remains secure and confidential. Advance care planning is not just for the elderly or those with chronic illnesses; it’s a thoughtful step everyone should consider. Learn more about advance care planning: https://www.azhha.org/tlc

Every day, elected officials’ decisions affect the health of Arizona’s people, patients and communities. How your AzHHA PAC donations help: 📃This funding helps us ensure hospital and healthcare friendly individuals are elected. 🏥Your support gives us a stronger voice in shaping healthcare policy in Arizona. 🪑Politicians aren’t always going to agree with us, but we need a seat at the table. Your donations help us get that seat to make sure Arizona hospitals continue to have a strong voice among elected officials. You can set up a one-time or recurring donation.
