🎉 On August 10, ACDC celebrated the art of lion dance with exciting performances and beautiful art. Thank you to everyone who came! 🌟Everyone had the chance to enjoy Lion Dance performances and participate in a beginner lion dancing workshop at the Hudson Street Stoop by the American Cultural Center (AACC). We are delighted to have everyone try out the lion dance moves! 🦁Ths was a one-day-only solo exhibition of Boston-born and raised artist Kevin Nguyen (@alldumplingnorice), featuring restored historic lion heads and two new original lion heads. The lion heads Kevin restored was displayed for event participants to view up close. We hoped everyone could enjoy viewing the magnificent lion heads up close! 🥰We are grateful to volunteers from AACC who made this event possible! 🎥 Did you know Chinatown was once the home of many movie theaters? 🎞️ During the 70s and 80s, martial arts films were all the rage in Chinatown! These theaters were a big part of Boston's social scene. Residents and folks from all around the Boston area would come together and watch films with their community! However, as home video rentals became more popular, these theaters began to close. 🍿 ACDC's Films At The Gate (FATG) preserves Chinatown's movie theater legacy. This youth-led outdoor film festival brings together the Chinatown community through activities, live performances, and classic kung-fu movies. 🎉Great news! On August 6, Governor Healey (@massgovernor) signed the Affordable Homes Act into law! We are thrilled to celebrate the official signing of the Affordable Homes Act and happy to see our administration taking the first steps to address our housing crisis. 🏠This historic act will add $5 billion of resources for affordable housing across MA, as well as several important policy changes that will make creating housing easier so that all residents can have safe and affordable places to call home. 👍ACDC's Executive Director, Angie Lou, had the chance to meet with the Secretary of Housing & Livable Communities Ed Augustus after the signing of the Affordable Homes Act. The program lasts for one year, with a total matching amount of up to $1200. ✨Applicant Eligibility✨ 1. Total household income is below 80% of the Area Median Income (AMI) for low- and moderate-income. 2. Wish to increase family savings to purchase their first home in the next two years. 🏠 3. ✨ Looking for FREE community events to go to this weekend? 👥 Join ACDC and Pao Arts Center this Saturday, August 10th for an afternoon in Chinatown! ✍️ From 2-4 PM, Pao Arts Center, in partnership with the Korean Cultural Society of Boston (kcsboston_), will be hosting an Afternoon of Korean Dance and Calligraphy at 99 Albany Street, featuring artist YoungSun Jang (@jichun_art). Come watch Korean cultural dances and learn about Korean name-writing in Hangeul script! 🦁 From 2-5 PM, check out ACDC’s Day of Lion Dance, right next door to Pao at Hudson Street Stoop (between 66 and 88 Hudson Street). There will be a beginner lion dancing workshop, an exhibition showcasing local artist Kevin Nguyen (@alldumplingnorice), and more!
