As I reach the 14-month milestone in my journey with the Audible Future Leaders Program, I’d like to take a moment to reflect on what I’ve accomplished and learned so far. During my time with the Global Center for Urban Innovation, I've had the privilege of engaging with initiatives focused on expanding Audible’s community and economic engagement. A statement from my manager, Aisha Browne Glover to incoming future leaders truly resonated with me: she expressed her desire to "change the system from the inside." This aligns deeply with my own ambition to be a catalyst for change. Aisha has been incredibly supportive, even attending important events during my senior year, like North Star Academy Charter School of Newark Senior Signing Day, where I proudly announced my plans to attend Seton Hall University this fall. As the President of our department, she continuously inspires me to aim high, reminding me that I too can and will achieve great things. Reflecting on Audible’s People’s Principles has been an integral part of my experience. As CEO Don Katz emphasized, these principles apply to everyone at Audible, including interns like myself. My projects have centered around two of the five principles: "Study & Draw Inspiration From Culture & Technology" and "Active Caring." My research projects for example, explored content creator programs and support initiatives that Audible could champion. However, my favorite aspect of this role has been planning and hosting volunteer Active Caring events. My fellow interns and I, alongside intern managers, have volunteered with Franciscan Charities during their December Toy Drive, supported ESL and Immigrant Forum students, helped set up and distribute a Farm Stand, and packed and donated feminine hygiene kits to SHE Wins Inc. and pencil pouches to La Casa de Don Pedro I also want to extend a heartfelt thank you to Beej Shah from Opportunity College who has been alongside us throughout this journey, providing invaluable support in professional development and mentoring. And a big thank you to Micaela Generali who once stood in my shoes but is now the best Future Leaders Program Manager we could ask for. I commend Audible for not just establishing a presence in Newark, but for actively giving back to the community. I’m excited to continue this journey and contribute to our shared mission of making a positive impact.
