We had the pleasure of hosting medical students from Florida International University - Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine at Baptist Hospital last week for an immersive look inside the internal medicine residency program. During their visit, the students explored our state-of-the-art Baptist Health Education Center, including a sneak peek of the simulation lab, and a tour of the cath lab at Miami Cardiac & Vascular Institute. The group also met with our dedicated faculty, including oncology, cardiology, and hospital medicine specialists, who shared insights on rotating through different specialties during our 3-year program. 👩⚕️🩺 👨⚕️🏥 These future doctors got a quick intro to life as an internal medicine resident at Baptist Health, where we’re proud to foster a culture of interdisciplinary collaboration, high-quality care, and lifelong learning. Join us in featuring Christopher R., an Emergency Department Registered Nurse whose journey began as a Clinical Support Tech. Unsure of his path after college, Christopher was inspired by his EMT brother to follow a similar career. After earning his EMT and paramedic certifications, he secured a position at Baptist Health Urgent Care Brickell! Encouraged by his Baptist Health Express Care leader to pursue nursing, Christopher considered the opportunity and pursued a nursing education. When asked what he enjoys most about his role, Christopher shared: "...working in the Off-campus Emergency Departments, I have a lot of autonomy. I can practice advanced nursing interventions under the supervision of an ED provider. For example, if a patient arrives with abdominal pain and the ED is busy, nurses can assess the situation and place an order set for the doctor, which speeds up the process.
