How to Start the Conversation   It’s okay to not be okay. Starting a conversation about mental health can feel difficult, but it’s essential. You can start by simply asking, ‘How are you really doing?’ or ‘I’ve noticed you seem stressed lately. Do you want to talk?’ Let’s make mental health part of the conversation on the job site. Recognizing the Signs of Mental Distress Stress, burnout, and isolation can hit hard on a construction site. Look out for signs of mental distress in your coworkers—changes in mood, withdrawing, or even talking about feeling hopeless. If you notice these signs, check in. A simple conversation can save a life. And remember, 988 is available 24/7. Did you Know? The CDC states “construction occupations have the highest rate of suicide, as well as the highest number of suicides across all occupational groups. Over 5,000 people working in construction die by suicide each year, that’s five times more than the annual number of jobsite fatalities.”   #barrandbarr

Construction Suicide Facts Construction has one of the highest suicide rates of any industry, with workers nearly 4x more likely to die by suicide than the general population. Long hours, physical strain, and the stigma around mental health play a big role. Let’s break the silence and support each other. If you or someone you know needs help, dial 988. Did you Know?   In the general population suicide occurs in 27 out of every 100,000 people, however in construction the number is greater than 53 suicides per 100,000 workers in multiple years of study, the CDC has found construction and extraction to be the #1 occupational group with male suicide.   #barrandbarr

Barr & Barr is thrilled to announce that Charlie Zuniga, Superintendent at Maimonides Medical Center, has successfully completed the AGC Construction Leadership Academy of NY. The ceremony was held at the AGC Summer Meeting in Lake Placid, NY this past weekend. Charlie was one of 34 graduates, equally the largest graduating class in the 25 years the AGC of NY has been running this program.   This program is designed to cultivate future leaders by providing advanced strategic thinking, management, and problem-solving skills. Our design-build project team at Gelest Manufacturing celebrated the topping out of the superstructure on its Sahara Project, a new state-of-the-art chemical manufacturing facility. Gelest, a Mitsubishi Chemical Group company, is a world leader in the chemical manufacturing industry. The 50,000-square-foot facility in Morrisville, PA, occupies a revitalized U.S. EPA Brownfield site and is planned to manufacture cutting-edge materials associated with the advanced semiconductor market. Ribbon Cutting: USF Taneja College of Pharmacy Today was the official Ribbon Cutting for USF’s Taneja College of Pharmacy, located on the 11th and 12th floors of the Morsani College of Medicine’s in Tampa’s Water Street District. All the speakers shared deep appreciation and gratitude for the Taneja Family Foundation. The generous gift from the Foundation ensured the success of this state-of-the-art facility, which expands interprofessional educational initiatives, technology and creative learning. The ceremony, attended by over 100 notable USF leaders, state and city politicians, as well as students and the media, was a huge success. Congratulations to the entire team – we were thrilled to be a part of such an important educational project for USF and for our community! Go Bulls! #barrandbarr

Celebrating our 2024 Summer Interns Today is National Intern Day and therefore we want to take a moment to say thank you to our 2024 summer interns: Nathan Hyde, Clayton Holland, Joaquin Garcia, Reilly Jordan, and Logan Morrissey. This class has demonstrated an exceptional work ethic, curiosity, and a willingness to engage that makes us excited for their future! Each intern was assigned to one of our active jobsites and also assigned a mentor to ensure their experience was useful, interesting and fun for them. Throughout the summer this group performed a wide variety of activities and toured multiple other Barr & Barr jobsites to learn about various construction techniques. They met with our project teams to hear about their individual roles and responsibilities and had the opportunities to attend Owner and Subcontractor meetings. As they head back to their universities next month, we hope they found their time at Barr & Barr useful and enjoyable. We send them off with good luck wishes and we’re looking forward to seeing them next year!
