BHSI and WTW teamed up last month for the annual Harlem Lacrosse Corporate Visit and Career Exploration Event at WTW's New York office. It was a day full of engaging activities, including an inspiring talk by Mike Chang, an overview of insurance and Directors & Officers (D&O) coverage, and a dynamic mock deal negotiation. Our BHSI underwriters and WTW brokers led small groups of students through the negotiation, offering a hands-on look at the industry. #BHSI was thrilled to welcome 28 interns this summer from across North America and Canada. Over the 10-12 weeks from early July through the end of August 2024, these talented individuals have immersed themselves in various aspects of our business. Our interns, hailing from diverse backgrounds and partners such as Posse, Harlem Lacrosse, Georgia State University, and others, are pursuing majors ranging from Economics and Actuarial Science to Risk Management, Computer Science, Engineering and more. Though spread across different BHSI locations, they came together both virtually and in person to engage in sessions about insurance, BHSI practices, and culture, along with professional development opportunities. Our interns also completed their Capstone Projects, where five teams presented their findings to senior leadership. We were so impressed by the innovative ideas this fantastic group shared. We are incredibly proud of what they have learned and accomplished during their time with us. BHSI's UK team partnered with Bridging the Gap Consultancy, an organization dedicated to driving diversity in the insurance market, to welcome four outstanding interns for a pilot corporate mentoring programme, two of which joined us for a placement through the month of July. Under the guidance of Tayo Williams, Head of Property Claims, and Will Tomalin, Senior Underwriter, Niah and KD worked with our UK teams learning about the world of insurance and undertaking projects, and were mentored by Andrew Leagas and Constantia Charalambous. They served as exemplary ambassadors for #BHSI, demonstrating exceptional engagement asking insightful questions, and enjoyed their visit with Aon's Natural Resources Claims team, pictured below. On their last day, they delivered fantastic presentations to the UK team, sharing their experiences and insights. We also had the pleasure of mentoring two other talented students, Kesiena and Fortune, under the guidance of Nick Ryan ACII and Emma Bailey. And we want to give a special shoutout to Jessie Macfarlane and Reha Begum, who worked diligently on the programme to ensure its success.
