The fall semester starts today, and with that I’d love to reflect on the incredible experience I had this summer as the BetterYou Customer Success Intern. During my internship I expanded customer success collateral, implemented customer feedback to our launch kits, and regularly posted on Instagram and TikTok (@betteryou.ai) to boost engagement. My biggest project this summer, however, was giving our education and enterprise launch kits a makeover. The “Launch Kit 2.0” now includes a starting guide spreadsheet, tutorial videos, instructional articles, and a plethora of engaging graphics! I’ve met the friendliest, most resilient group of people during my time in the office. A huge thank you to Adreon Morgan for being a rock in the CS world and Cody Crawford for teaching us everything we need to know, Kelly Schultze who took a chance on me during the hiring process, Melissa Kjolsing for your much appreciated wisdom, and of course the one and only Sean Higgins who dreamed up the power of healthy habits (and is the best LinkedIn-er I know)! I wish I could tag everyone who made coming into the office so much fun. I’m going to miss our silly videos, lunch walks, and bike to work days, but… I’m thrilled and extremely grateful to continue working there this fall as a part-time extension of my Customer Success Internship! I guess this isn’t a goodbye after all.

How can the first reported software bug in space help you optimize your day? In 1997, Pathfinder encountered a mission critical issue all about scheduling tasks. This issue prevented to rover from carrying out its mission and created a global stir. When it comes to building a schedule whether on Mars or Earth it's all about priority. Let's take a look at how to build priority into your path of most importance.

Product Associate Intern@BetterYou|Economics and Data Science @Macalester College

I’m thrilled to share that my summer as a Product Associate Intern at BetterYou was an incredible journey of learning and growth! During my 10 weeks, I delved into data analysis with SQL and Python, uncovering insights about the usage and efficacy of some BetterYou app features. These insights were instrumental in refining go-to-market strategies and guiding the creation of sales collateral. I also built interactive LookerStudio dashboards to track key metrics for the features. I reviewed Figma designs, provided actionable UX recommendations for upcoming app updates, and managed member feedback to enhance our mission of helping members find time in their day for their health. And it wasn’t all work—I enjoyed participating in the annual scavenger hunt, playing Mario Kart in the office (even though I lost most of the time), winning the office video challenge, and exploring downtown Saint Paul’s best lunch spots with my colleagues, among many other activities that kept our office lively. A huge THANK YOU to the amazing BetterYou team for their support and guidance, especially my supervisor Andrew Boucher and mentors Russell Gerber, Noah Woldemariam, and Vikas Sabbi. A special shoutout to fellow interns Aspen Howard and Xai Yang for being the best co-interns, and to Kelly Schultze and Sean Higgins for bringing me onto the team. I’m excited about the future of this fantastic startup and what’s ahead for me!

This week Google Play featured BetterYou in the #WeARePlay campaign, highlighting the builders and apps reaching people at scale. When you first build an app your main hope is that someone uses it. Almost exactly 6 years ago when we developed this idea we wouldn't have thought we'd be helping people at this scale every single day. We are honored to be included in the list. Our goal is still simple. Today your time is optimized, it just isn't optimized for you. Let's get it back! If you're looking for ways to level up your company health or interested in seeing what BetterYou and more time can do for you send a line to: https://lnkd.in/gyMaBKKu Let's make some waves out there, together!

“One of the most common mistakes companies make is to approach engagement as a sporadic exercise in making their employees feel happy -- usually around the time when a survey is coming up.” - Gallup AKA a pre-survey pizza party =/= long-term employee engagement. 🚫🍕🚫 So, if you're an HR leader looking to cultivate true employee engagement, set aside the 'za and focus on these five key drivers: 1. Purpose 🧭 More than short-term thrills, employees seek something deeper to propel them forward. A unique goal, specialty, or skill they can be known for. 2. Development ⬆️ Just doing the work--even if it's being done well--isn't enough to drive employee engagement. Without a sense of professional development built into a role, employees will inevitably become less and less engaged with their position. 3. A Focus on Strengths 💪 Looking for a surefire way to disengage your employees? Focus their work around tasks that aren't in their wheelhouses. Finding ways for employees to flex their strengths in a productive way benefits everyone. 4. A Caring Manager ❤️ No one wants Bill Lumbergh as their manager (Uhhhh... Yeaaaahhhh...). Professional care, courtesy, and empathy are crucial to fostering any type of employee engagement. 5. Ongoing Conversations 🗣️ And that care above needs to come at a regular clip. Ongoing conversations about an employee's work, satisfaction, and goals gives the clear signal their wants and needs are being thought of. When people are cared for -- and told so -- they're able to be engaged and do their best work. What key drivers of employee engagement have you seen in your #HR day-to-day? Share your gold nuggets of wisdom in the comments. 🧠🥇 #EmployeeWellness #EmployeeEngagement

The RT button probably seemed innocuous when it was first developed. “Hey, what if users could instantly share a Tweet they thought was cool?” What harm could there be? But with that power to instantly blast a Tweet into the digital ether, information that was misrepresented (at best) or fabricated and harmful (at worst) could spread much more rapidly than before. RTs of RTs of RTs of RTs of RTs of a false piece of information could snake their way through the platform at breakneck speed. But hey, that’s on the users, right? No. Not by a long shot. Tristan Harris and Aza Raskin of Center for Humane Technology have discussed this very issue. To combat irresponsible creation and use of new technology, they propose three rules. While the rules were created with the advent of AI in mind, they extend to any form of new technology. Even something as small as a RT button. 1️⃣ “When we invent a new technology, we uncover a new class of responsibility. We didn't need the right to be forgotten until computers could remember us forever, and we didn't need the right to privacy in our laws until cameras were mass-produced. As we move into an age where technology could destroy the world so much faster than our responsibilities could catch up, it's no longer okay to say it's someone else's job to define what responsibility means.” 2️⃣ “If that new technology confers power, it will start a race. Humane technologists are aware of the arms races their creations could set off before those creations run away from them – and they notice and think about the ways their new work could confer power.” 3️⃣ “If we don’t coordinate, the race will end in tragedy. No one company or actor can solve these systemic problems alone. When it comes to AI, developers wrongly believe it would be impossible to sit down with cohorts at different companies to work on hammering out how to move at the pace of getting this right – for all our sakes.” Now, think of those three rules when it comes to Likes, endless feeds driven by algorithms, AI content… the list goes on. Are those rules being followed?
